- Irene Hunter: [Taking a liquor bottle away] Oh, Jimmy. This isn't you.
- Jimmy Saunders: [Slightly inebriated] No? You haven't been reading the papers.
- Irene Hunter: You'll get another job.
- Jimmy Saunders: You know anybody who needs a slightly bewildered spy? It's about all I've got left to cash in on.
- Irene Hunter: Oh, don't talk like that. In a little while people will have forgotten the whole thing.
- Jimmy Saunders: Sure, that's right. What if I am a spy. People won't hold it against me long. Go on, get out of here. Let me sleep.
- Irene Hunter: I didn't know that you had any big shot friends.
- Lester Taylor: I said stick with me and you'd be traveling in society.
- Peggy O'Reilly: [Talking in jail with a screen between them] Please, Jimmy. Promise me you won't get into any more trouble.
- Jimmy Saunders: Don't worry about me. I've got the papers I need to clear myself.
- Peggy O'Reilly: Well, gee, that's swell!
- Peggy O'Reilly: Sure.
- [Looks at her in a different way]
- Peggy O'Reilly: Gee, Peggy, you're pretty.
- Jimmy Saunders: Well, thank you.
- Jimmy Saunders: [Smiles at her] It's funny sometimes.
- Peggy O'Reilly: What?
- Jimmy Saunders: Oh, in a way when a fella doesn't realize things until, well, until he's in jail, for instance.
- Peggy O'Reilly: Realize what, Jimmy?
- Jimmy Saunders: Oh, you know. Maybe if this screen wasn't here, I could say better what I mean.
- Peggy O'Reilly: You won't let a little thing like a screen get in the way
- [He kisses her through the screen]
- Jailor: Times up, buddy.
- Peggy O'Reilly: [They kiss between the screen] Kind of a metallic taste. I like it!
- Jimmy Saunders: Oh, Peg, I ...
- Peggy O'Reilly: Yes?
- Jimmy Saunders: I get out of here Friday night.
- Peggy O'Reilly: It's a date!
- [He is escorted away.]
- Irene Hunter: Oh, doctor, I wanted to ask your opinion about my health. I have these terrible headaches in the morning.
- Doctor Jeffry Arnold: Habit? But medicine is only a sideline for me. I'm really a doctor of philosophy.
- Irene Hunter: Oh!
- [laughs]
- Irene Hunter: Oh, well, then. There's always my philosophy that champagne can cure.
- Gordon: [Interrogating Jimmy] You know, Jimmy. sometimes a young fella like you gets off on the wrong foot. Maybe he gets to running around with an expensive dolly and needs ready cash. Maybe he gets the idea that being a spy is a swell adventure.
- Jimmy Saunders: I don't know what you mean.
- Gordon: You aren't a criminal. You have the chance to make a fresh start. Start all over again.
- Jimmy Saunders: I haven't done anything wrong.
- Lyman Scott: You worry about your own business... like talking to a strange girl.
- Jailor: Oh, I've known her for months.
- Lyman Scott: In this business you can't even trust your own mother.
