The film takes place in 1757.
The BBC version also had whites posing as Native Americans. This was because they literally could not find any Native Americans living in the UK at the time. The only Native Americans in the UK at the time were deceased members of Buffalo Bill Hickok's Wild West show that had died in England and had been buried locally in a London cemetery.
The character of Dulac was created for this film and does not appear in the novel.

An edited/condensed feature version of this serial was released in 1948, by Albert Dezel Productions, with the title "The Return of the Mohicans". It was part of a double bill with "The Return of Kit Carson", an edited/condensed version of Mascot's 1933 "Fighting With Kit Carson" serial.
