Stage Struck

Ändern
  • Sid: Well, come on, what are you waiting for? How many times do I have to tell you?
  • Red Cap: Be careful of that dog, he was raised on milk.
  • Sid: Yeah, so was I. But, I eat meat now!
  • Wayne: You're fired!
  • George Randall: You can't fire me, we've got a verbal contract.
  • Wayne: It's not worth the paper it's written on. You're fired!
  • Fred Harris: Listen, I've got a terrific star, lyrics and music by Cooper and Marley, all the girls in the world!
  • George Randall: All the girls in the world. I guess that's just too ducky. Listen, sweetheart, I wouldn't step on the stage with even one girl. For five years I've been working with these females in wholesale lots. Even at home, I've had women in my ears and in my teeth, my hair, screamin', hollerin', yellin'. Well, they're all alike and they're making a gibbering maniac out of me.
  • George Randall: Why you blonde traitor you! You! You perfumed Judas you!
  • Peggy Revere: Always remember, George, what Shakespeare said, "When two's company, he who hesitates, is lost."
  • George Randall: Who said that?
  • Peggy Revere: Shakespeare, the bird of Avon.
  • George Randall: All my life I've been bothered with hysterical women. I don't suppose I'll ever be completely happy until I marry one 'em.
  • Fred Harris: Sometimes the power of my own brain scares me.
  • Wayne: One of our big numbers is especially suited to your talent. It's called, "Lady of the Moon."
  • Peggy Revere: Oh, how divine. I am mad about astronomy.
  • Peggy Revere: Somehow your dances lack a certain sparkle. A - a "joie de vi-vi" - as we say in France.
  • Peggy Revere: So, a five-a-day hoofing teacher means more to this production than I do. Perhaps he'd like to put is money in to; because, I'm taking mine out!
  • Wayne: But, I have a contract with you!
  • Peggy Revere: Anything you've got to say to verbally, please, put in writing. Shut your mouth!
  • Peggy Revere: I shall go directly to my solicitors: Babcock, Driscoll, Driscoll, Tubbs & Babcock.
  • James - The Yacht Club Boys, Billy - The Yacht Club Boys: [singing] The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker take most of your dough today
  • Charles - The Yacht Club Boys, George - The Yacht Club Boys, James - The Yacht Club Boys, Billy - The Yacht Club Boys: And whatever is left when they get through...
  • Billy - The Yacht Club Boys: The government takes
  • James - The Yacht Club Boys: The government takes
  • George - The Yacht Club Boys: The government takes
  • Charles - The Yacht Club Boys: The government takes
  • Charles - The Yacht Club Boys, George - The Yacht Club Boys, James - The Yacht Club Boys, Billy - The Yacht Club Boys: The government takes away!
  • Sid: Don't you think this getting fired all the time is gonna be bad for your reputation?
  • George Randall: Lincoln got fired several times.
  • Sid: Yeah, I know, but, show business was different in those days.
  • Fred Harris: Freud explains that. Of course, you're familiar with "Totem and Taboo."
  • Peggy Revere: Yes. Yes. Clever team. I love their songs.
  • Fred Harris: No, Peggy. It's a famous book by a Sigmund Freud, the great psychologist. It tells us that a show of hatred is the sure sign of a great love.
  • Peggy Revere: No.
  • Fred Harris: Yes!
  • George Randall: Oh, I remember you. You're the guy that let Revere tear up my contract.
  • Fred Harris: Leave Revere to me and come to work on Monday morning. She's going to be duck soup. Harris always come through.
  • Sid: All right, all right, all the showgirls left to pick, come on, down stage in one line so that Mr. Randall can see ya. All right, girls, come on. Hurry up. Hurry up! All right, make it a straight line. Now, raise your skirts to your knees and show Mr. Randall what legs your shape is in. Eh, I mean, what shape your legs are in. Aw, come on, come on! To your knees! Raise 'em to your knees!
  • Ruth Williams: If you don't use me, I'll have to try another show. I'm not going to give up now.
  • George Randall: Oh, yes you are; even if I have to spank some sense into you.
  • Fred Harris: I have a luncheon engagement with Max Reinhardt. He wants my advice about his new play.
  • Peggy Revere: Remember the old saying, "All work and no play gathers no moss."
  • George Randall: [singing] Your own quiet way, You played Delilah in your own quiet way, You came by and with a look of a dove, Dropped your glove, And sold me down that river known as love...
  • George Randall: [singing] What Joan of Arc did with a whole brigade, You did with a single kiss...
  • Peggy Revere: George, I know you'll simply adore my apartment. Some night we'll have an old fashioned candy pull.
  • Peggy Revere: Oh, yes! Under the bed - for love's sake!
  • Peggy Revere: Oh, George, you naughty boy, I've been looking all over for you. We're having cocktails before dinner.
  • Peggy Revere: What odor is that incense, Yvonne?
  • Yvonne: Hyacinth.
  • Peggy Revere: Hyacinth!
  • Yvonne: Yes 'em.
  • Peggy Revere: You may go, Yvonne.
  • Yvonne: Yes 'em.
  • George Randall: Hyacinth?
  • Peggy Revere: Yes! Hyacinth.
  • Gilmore Frost: Hyacinth, huh?
  • Peggy Revere: Yes!
  • Peggy Revere: Gentlemen, no x-rays! I don't look well enough for pictures.
  • George Randall: Listen, Hayward, we're still set with dress rehearsal. You line up all the critics in town and bring them down to the theater and I'll turn it on for them - with a girl that's got a little talent, this show will get by! If the critics say it's in the bag, we'll open tonight anyway. What can we lose?
  • Fred Harris: Tonight, history will be made in the American theater!
