The opening title cards refers to the beginning of Prohibition in the United States. Cloves were chewed in an attempt to mask the odor of alcohol on one's breath.
The exterior set of the tall building, supposedly 12 stories high, was built on Bunker Hill on Hill Street near Court Street, which gave it the appearance of great height when photographed from certain angles, but it was only a few feet off the ground. Bunker Hill was subsequently lowered and totally redeveloped beginning in the 1950s.
Prohibition in the U.S. began on 17 January 1920, less than two months before production on this film began.
Harold Lloyd married his co-star Mildred Davis on 10 February 1923. They remained married until her death on 18 August 1969. They had three children.
