For the first time ever, the New Nordic Films market in Haugesund, Norway, is rolling out its red carpet to a 30-plus delegation of Baltic industry reps to bolster partnerships between the Nordic and Baltic film industries and find new paths for already escalating collaborations.

Estonian writer-director Martti Helde who made his mark on the global festival stage with his multi-awarded debut “In the Crosswind” and sophomore “Scandinavian Silence” (a Europa Cinema Label winner at Karlovy Vary 2019) is prepping perhaps his most ambitious project to date: the historical drama “Silverwhite” (“Hõbevalge”).
The project, which marks Helde’s third collaboration with producer Elina Litvinova of Tallinn-based Three Brothers, will be pitched at New Nordic Films’ Nordic Co-Production Market in Haugesund, Aug. 20.
Famed for his experimental style combining formalist approaches with traditional narrative, Helde’s new feature will again dwell with the notion of time, although it will be “broader” than his earlier works, he said.

Sundance Film Festival has announced the 16 jurors heading into the festival launch on January 23, with Critics’ Week artistic director Ava Cahen,Celine Song, and Daniel Kaluuya among those taking part.
Song, whose Oscar-nominated Past Lives premiered in Park City in 2023, joins Bob Marley: One Love director Reinaldo Marcus Green, and Iranian-born Succession actor Arian Moayed as U.S. Dramatic Competition jurors.
Serving on the corresponding documentary jury are Steven Bognar, director of Sundance 2019 selection American Factory, Higher Ground head of film and TV Vinnie Malhotra, and Marcia Smith, who is president of the non-profit Firelight Media that advocates for documentary filmmakers of colour.

Levan Akin’s Crossing and Frida Kempff’s The Swedish Torpedo headed the winners at Sweden’s Guldbagge national film awards, presented in Stockholm on Monday, January 13.
Crossing won the best film award, presented to producer Mathilde Dedye – the second time Akin and Dedye have taken the top Guldbagge award, after And Then We Danced in 2020.
