Read the book, like the book, just film the book - Simple!

Dear Hollywood, This is how it should work. People read a book. People like that book. You then just film the book directly. No messing about, no rewrites, no major edits, no nonsense, no casting someone 5'9" to play a 6'5" monster.

I read the book last year and the biggest change I could spot was that it was a slightly less ridiculous sports car that he borrows from the bankers wife.

A Tense Crime Story With An Excellent Main Character

Surprisingly good show, with great action scenes and a likeable main character. An interesting crime story that reminds us of good old-fashioned entertainment.

The story follows the atmosphere from the books well, and the casting is great. Alan Ritchson is a great choice for the role of Jack Reacher, not only does he look like him, but he conveyed his character well on screen.

Most of today's series is unwatchable, but this is a really positive surprise. The series follows the plot of the first book, "Killing Floor," and Reacher tries to find the culprits responsible for a series of murders.

The show is a real surprise, because it does not suffer from most of the common flaws of today's film production. There are only a few small things that could be better, but this is definitely better than the vast majority of today's shows, because it tries to entertain the viewer, and not bother him with unnecessary things.

The fight scenes are excellent, tense and brutal. Alan Ritchson is convincing in the role of Jack Reacher, but the other actors also portrayed their characters well. A really pleasant surprise, considering that most good stories are ruined by today's writers.

The show looks interesting, very cinematic and is well directed. The soundtrack is good, it blended in perfectly with the atmosphere of the story.

An interesting crime story with an excellent main character, tense plot, brutal action and a good cast.

This is Reacher

Having read many Reacher novels, and watching the two Reacher movies. I have to say, this is what Lee Child envisioned when he created Reacher. If you enjoy the Tom Cruise movies , you should, enjoy them as Tom Cruise movies, because that's what they are, if you are a Reacher book fan, this is a show for you. Not disappointed. I hope they make many more books with Alan Ritchson.

Terrific

It's hard to describe how much I loved Reacher. I was excited ever since I first heard about it and just got more and more excited as I saw the trailers and read the reviews so I had huge expectations going into this. Well, this series not only met those expectations but surpassed them in every way. I'm glad that I waited for all the episodes to be released before I started watching because it watched better as a binge watch. I actually liked it so much I plan on watching again all the way through very soon. Alan Ritchson has been good in supporting roles throughout his career but I wasn't sure he could be the lead in a good series but he definitely can. He is fantastic in this. He not only looks the part but does a good job as lead actor. Reacher is one of my favorite new shows and I can't wait for another season.

Perfect casting, excellent screen adaptation

I've only ever read one Jack Reacher novel, and it happened to be Killing Floor, which Season 1 is based on. So I can say it's an excellent, faithful adaptation for the screen. The mix of talented directors keep the story fresh and fast paced.

I can also say that the characters are perfectly cast, in particular Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher and Malcolm Goodwin as Detective Finlay. Reacher in the novels is as physically imposing as he is highly perceptive and intelligent. Reacher in the Tom Cruise movies is, well, Tom Cruise. (I watched the Tom Cruise Jack Reacher movies before reading the novel, and I really liked those movies. Still do. But Tom Cruise is not the perfect casting for Jack Reacher, I'll just leave it at that). Willa Fitzgerald (Roscoe) and Ritchson have a terrific on-screen chemistry that's fun to see develop over the course of the season. Before this, I was unfamiliar with these three actors but they, and the entire cast, honestly, got me attached to the town of Margrove.

That was really worth the investment

True to the book. True to the character. Entertaining and fun.

Right amount of action. Right amount of humor.

Looking forward to another season & book.

Definitely recommend it to anyone. You don't need to have read the book to understand & enjoy it.

Jack Reacher, never looks for a fight but then never backs down from one.

New TV series streaming from Amazon, my wife and I watched two episodes on each of four successive nights. Sort of like movie nights. This is not high art, the writing has lots of humor, in real life Reacher couldn't get away with everything depicted. BUT ... it is a very entertaining series. Especially for those of us who enjoy seeing a smart, mild-mannered, well-spoken, well-trained, big tough guy put the bad guys in their places. Some simple thugs, some unruly prison inmates, some dirty cops. Ritchson is a real good pick for the role. (In an interview he said he gained 30 pounds for the role.)

My only disappointment, after watching the opening scenes at least a dozen times now, is that bite of peach pie never reaches Reacher's mouth when the local cops enter the cafe. However, they eventually rectified that!

Reacher is an ex-military man, he takes a bus to the small Georgia town, walks to town to look up an old blues singer's home, immediately gets arrested for murder, but eventually works with local law enforcement to help solve the mysteries, and there are several.

Most episodes are roughly 45 to 50 minutes long, set in a fictional Georgia town not far from Atlanta but filmed in Canada. Cast and characters are interesting. The story is not too deep but surprisingly interesting, just good entertainment. Streaming on Amazon.

Season 2: As we would expect with a different book as the source, with a different set of supporting characters, season 2 has a much different look and feel to it. As it starts we see a helicopter dropping a man, maybe already dead, into a snowy area of the mountains, north of Manhattan. Then it abruptly switches to Arkansas where Reacher is at a thrift shop and at the ATM notices a woman bruised and in tears, he promptly thwarts a carjacking.

After the first three episodes my wife and I are enjoying it but the content has more violence, shootings and killings. I suppose to appease some cross-section of viewers but I don't find it as interesting or as entertaining. While season one is "superb" season two, so far, is just "decent entertainment."

Season 3: As we expected, was totally different. It starts with Reacher in a used vinyl store in Maine when he notices something strange outside, it turns out to be an attempted kidnapping which he foils. The target was the son of a wealthy man played by Anthony Michael Hall, former teen star. Then there is the Belgian giant playing a guard named Pauli. Overall an interesting set of episodes, to us more enjoyable than season 2.

APR 2023 update: Over about 2 days I rewatched all of season 1, it was fresh enough after three years that I enjoyed it as much, knowing what the overall storyline was had me look at many scenes from a different angle. Season 1 is super, the others just OK.

Season 3 is horrible

Season 1 was genuinely excellent. Great writing, great casting, excellent direction, production, and acting. Season 2 was...not as good, but still worth watching. Season 3, on the other hand, is a dumpster fire. Whoever wrote this season is as amateur as a writer can get. Me and my wife are constantly rolling our eyes as we're trying to stomach our way through each episode. It's horrendous dialogue that sounds like it was written by ChatGPT, scenes which don't make sense, character actions that don't align with the characters' motivations, lack of story arcs, poor pacing, and it switches up from real-time structure to non-real-time for episode 6. The writing on this season ranges from absolutely horrific to merely mediocre. Bring back whoever wrote season 1 so we can have a worthwhile season 4. But season 3 felt like it was being haphazardly written on the fly by a bad improv troupe. The characters deserve better.

Awesome!

Reacher was absolutely terrific! It's an action packed thriller that knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else. Alan Ritchson does an incredible job as Jack Reacher, I think he's going to surprise a lot of people by just how good he was. This show will keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat throughout the season and I can't wait for future seasons. Once you start watching it you'll want to binge watch it as quickly as possible. It's doing amazing for Amazon as it's quickly become once of its most watched series ever. So much so that it already got picked up for another season only 3 days after season 1 came out. Reacher is easily one of the best new shows I've seen in years!

Season 2 was meh...season 1 great

Wow it went downhill into the 2nd season. Became unbelievable and shallow. So many scenes were so unrealistic that it degraded what they built in Season 1. In one of the episodes there was so much shooting and a high-speed car chase with not a single police officer or other vehicle on the street in New York City is absolutely unrealistic and absurd. Was really bummed out after a great first season to see how poorly they handled the second season. If there's going to be a third season they seriously need to step up their game and improve both the casting and the storyline to make it more believable.

Really good

I am surprised by people who gave the low ratings. I found it very watchable without the filler minutes that many of these series have now. Perhaps the villains weren't as good as some other shows, but they sure did evil things. Some pretty strong supporting characters for the cast, and some a bit lackluster.

I am sure there will be a season 2 and I hope it will be stronger than many of other Prime season 2 series.

First season really good, second one embarassing

The first season is really good, 8/10. The second one is embrassing, unfortunalety. Just 5/10, no progress, poor characters and a very bad storywriting. Even the action parts are very bad directed in the second season.

At the first season the storytelling and the characters are very interesting, the direction was fine and even the action parts were nice and thrilling presented.

But the second season destroys all the good and fascinating characteristics, unfortunalety. Really bad storyline without any interesting topic, poor perfomance of all actors and also bad action.

So I really recommend the first season, pass the second and we all should hope for a good third one.

Sorry, but Season 2 is horrible.

What happened to the realism?

Season 2 of Reacher features laughably unrealistic scenarios-like two snipers incapable of hitting any four people from 200 yards away running at them firing *handguns*. Like Reacher firing a handgun at a helicopter gunner using a belt-fed machine gun. Like Reacher firing a handgun while running at full speed.

The bad guys fire 10,000 rounds in this season and can't manage to hit a single thing they're aiming at. And these are supposed to be highly trained people?

Beyond that, the dialogue is shallow and feels very expository. It was bad enough that I just bailed on Ep7 out of sheer refusal to give the show any more of my time.

Better than Tom Cruise

Aside from the extreme breaches of the law, being held in a prison instead of a jail and the lies told about searches (Ep1) so far this seems like it will have some sustainability. You do have to set aside a lot of reality and truth and belief but I like it so far. Better than that cruddy Tom Cruise movie. They also actually got a guy to play Reacher that actually fit the description given in the books.

Better than i expected

This dude nailed Jack Reacher from the book. The cast is absolutly great.

But Alan Ritchson is born for this role and i am so happy for him. Amazing performance and i am still on episode 4.

Entertaining

I read Lee Child every now and then when I need to switch my brain off. It's not meant to be great literature or true to real life policing so there isn't a lot of point in the "not as good as.." comparisons. It's more like a televisual John Wick if a comparison is necessary - where Reacher is the guy who is always right and who always gets the girl - however improbable. This is a great adaptation which reflects the staccato dialogue and fast pace of the books and is visually pleasing and great fun.

The only downside is Ritchson is a little too gym honed for the book Reacher and has a very odd walk for a guy that is supposed to walk miles each day. But overall as close as we will get and I hope the follow up seasons are this good.

Nailed it finally. Bye bye Cruise

At least now the character is closer to the books and he'll work his way in it and do a great job. Tom Cruise was a totally wrong pick. Doubters just give the series time to get fully developed and you'll find out that this is going to be a perfect actioner like the books.

Better than expected

When I saw the teasers I thought it was going to be similar to those below average, daytime cop shows like NCIS or CSI whatever but it's actually worth a watch. It's not the most captivating storyline though it's still pretty decent and some scenes seem a little overdramatized but the fight scenes alone make up for it. I got this just to pass time but I'm actually enjoying it only a couple episodes in.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

Reacher is a quality series that I look forward to continuing with season 2.

Its has some genuinely funny moments and the additional action scenes are deliver really well.

The most pleasing aspect though is that its an adult show not sanitised for a younger audience. It give the show more credibility :)

S1 Brilliant. S2 Lousy. S3 Recovering.

I took a fair bit of convincing to watch S1 after not enjoying the Tom Cruise films, but I finally did & thought it was absolutely brilliant. The writing, characters, acting, setting & mystery were all spot on. Also, the limited action was used perfectly.

S2 felt completely different. They massively raised the stakes & action, missing what made S1 work so well. Its simple, small-scale focus. Add to that, it all just felt so poorly done in it's writing, a weaker story & use of poor CGI. It was no surprise to see new writers.

S3 sits comfortably between the highs of S1 & the disappointment of S2. It's a welcome return to a smaller scale & tighter focus. With sharper writing, a more endearing & slightly less brash set of supporting cast it helps the show & the character of Reacher shine again.

Whilst S3 never matches the brilliance & impact of the first season, it's a clear improvement & a solid course correction after S2.

If i were to rate the seasons separately, S1 would be 9/10. S2 would be a 4/10 & S3 would be a 7/10.

The Reacher we deserved

Finally a proper Jack Reacher.

And although having Nick Santora show running this, the fact reamains it is a very good adaptation of the first Reacher Novel and it follows Lee Child vision fairly well.

I hope this is the beginning of a two digit seasons.

Downhill each season...

I was a big fan of Reacher during the first season. It was a different kind of action show. It was meant to be deep, meaningful, kind wherever possible and only invoke violence when absolutely necessary. The relationships were real and complex and the storyline interesting.

I noticed season 2 started becoming more 'typical action-y'... but still a complex, interesting storyline with deep relationship building from historical bonds.

Unfortunately, season 3 is a jump the shark all over the place. It's a real bummer to what I thought this show was about.

The ridiculousness that Reacher has a gun and uses it right away in the first episode goes against everything he stood for in the first season.

The unbelievable scenarios throughout when it comes to things like heavy security fences and cameras but only pointing at one entrance at the estate and none at the warehouses used for illegal activity?

The episode of remembrance of Reacher working with a young officer and then sending her and another rookie to take down some evil mastermind who, according to comments made at the beginning of the episode would have the utmost scary military security detail covering him, without proper back up?

Jumping the shark everywhere :(.

It's now become boring, typical and uninteresting. Frankly, showing Reacher with minimal clothing on is simply not interesting enough or worth it to keep watching :(

Bummed.

S1 (7/10) S2 (3/10) Fell Far And Fast In Season 2

I have admittedly not read any of the Lee Child books or have a huge affinity for Reacher, I just want a great story with some action. Season 1 delivered with interesting side characters and small town justice. The battle at the end was fairly epic and Reacher was just a terminator and great to watch.

I have no idea if the show runners changed or scriptwriters went on vacation, but Season 2 has a totally different vibe. Reacher operates in a band of ex-military operatives trying to untangle a murder mystery. My frustration is he isn't front and center and this show works so much better with him as a lone wolf. The side characters are unconvincing and unlikeable, contrasted with Season 1's cop and lawyer who were great.

Really disappointed and hope this show does better for Season 3 if renewed. Go back to the roots.

Spectacular fun

Alan Ritchson is perfect for this and I love that he read all 24 novels in preparation for his role. The soundtrack is great, acting is smooth so is the writing, and the action is brutal awesomeness! I'm surprised the top few reviews aren't higher, Reacher deserves so much praise. I love this series it's very well made and continuously worth watching!
