The great outdoors at Fall

Hallmark may be very inconsistent in all their season blocks every year (their Christmas films particularly), but there are films of theirs that are surprisingly well above average and more in every season block and every year. Their 2018 output did have misfires throughout the year ('Christmas at Pemberley Manor'), but also films that impressed me ('Pearl in Paradise'). Was very impressed by the 2018 Fall Harvest efforts, and consider the 2018's Fall Harvest block one of the more consistent Fall Harvest blocks.

'Under the Autumn Moon' is on the whole a pretty good effort. Is it a great film? Not quite, actually an easy film to criticise if one is particularly not familiar with Hallmark's output, which is quite more of the same and very up and down in all its own. Is 'Under the Autumn Moon' worth watching and does it have a lot of good things? Yes, and as far as Hallmark's 2018 output that had been aired already goes it's one of the solid middle ones but also among their better ones overall that year in a typically variable year for them.

It is far from perfect. It is formulaic and doesn't have many surprises, almost everything is obvious well before it happens (and it is not just the neatly wrapped up ending).

As well as the too neat and convenient ending, the whole final act is rushed and contrived. Also didn't like the too constant and over loud music, not uncommon with Hallmark.

On the other hand, there are a lot of good things. Lindy Booth and Wes Brown, both pretty consistently strong Hallmark regulars, are good, and their chemistry connects well and is suitably romantic. The supporting cast are solid. It is a good looking film, especially the scenery. While not a script that will win awards, the script is light-hearted and witty, clearly knowing what it was trying to be and clearly understood the genre the film fits under. Doing so without trying to throw in too much tonally or adding anything unnecessary.

Story is not original, but is full of charm and never takes itself too seriously, while also treating the subject with maturity. The pace never felt dull while not being rushed. The supporting cast are solid.

Also felt that the characters weren't too stereotypical and were more than just typical Hallmark cliches that is seen too often with Hallmark. Also cared for them, with them being true to life with personality traits that appealed with situations worth relating to.

Nice film overall. 7/10.

Definitely sugary

Or as some people say sappy. I expect Hallmark movies to be sappy and unrealistic with too many things wrapped up all in a bow, but this movie does all that in spades.

The story is a way overused trope where the family business is in jeopardy and a junior executive of a large corporation, Booth, is sent to scout buying it. The whole story is so cliche, or is it? Through most of the movie, I was thinking this premise is ridiculous, and much of it was, but hold off on that judgment because at least some of it makes more sense with a little twist toward the end. One small silly thing that stuck out though was "mucking the stalls" where the hay is already pristine and then they throw it at each other.

It seems that some people are annoyed by Lindy Booth, but not me. Yes her voice is a little out of the normal range. In this movie, she did do a lot of standing around and smiling prettily. It's too bad that she was relegated to that because this woman has a bubbly personality where the joy comes out all over her if given a chance. In this movie, she held that bubbly personality in neutral or maybe just in first gear a little too much. She still played a woman with a very winsome personality. She and Wes Brown connected well.

A couple of supporting actors were also appealing as Cherion Drakes and Dean Redman had a nice secondary romance going and Natalie Lisinska was Josh's friendly sister.

Love Wes Brown

I was wondering how often this ranch has been used in, that tree where she uses the phone, that background is becoming as more recognisable than my back garden, but it is beautiful.

The ranch is too clean and polished to be real, but then again aren't all Hallmark films like that. It doesn't matter if all you want is escapism and a feel good feeling. I could watch Wes Brown in anything.

MUSIC

Come on Hallmark movies. The music is WAY WAY too loud and persistent. Can barely hear the dialogue, and TOO TOO persistent as well. It's annoying and unable to enjoy the movie. This has been a common theme in many HM movies lately. I see that another review stated the same objection. Come on Hallmark movies.

Dressage

Typical Hallmark, which I like. But don't say the main lady performed dressage riding and then have her flop around on the back of a horse. Dressage riders post, not flop.

Same story with a nice cast

So many Hallmark movies have the same story - a romance between the owner of a struggling business and the person who works for the person who wants to buy it. Instead of a bookshop it's a dude ranch. The difference here is the scenery is nice, the cast is attractive and authentic enough looking with Wes Brown as the ranch owner and Lindy Booth as the deal maker.

Good stuff.

I really liked this one. The actors played their parts very well. The people who complain about Hallmark movies being the same should maybe stop watching Hallmark movies. I think that most movies have the same formula when it gets down to it. It really depends on if you believe the characters are real. It was good stuff.

Could be better

Nothing too unusual about the plot and a typical Hallmark movie, but I got a bit bored half way through.

Maybe the chemistry wasn't there but I found it hard going, opting to watch in two parts.

I didn't like the ranch much either.

Maybe caught me on a bad day.

Yes please

Great - yet predictable Hallmark movie. Can't go wrong with Wes Brown!

nice

Lindy Booth and Wes Brown. It is the easiest definition of this Hallmark film , not so bad, not exactly boring, nice predictable and just not fair to ignore it for few scenes. Sure, the farm is the axis and the construction of romance reasonable candies. But it works well and that is the only important aspect, in essence. So, just nice.

Alex and Josh fall in love under the stars on a dude ranch.

Lindy Booth's character should have been named Autumn instead of Alex in this fall romance, for she match the fall "North Dakota" scenery so well with deep red hair!

This is the story of Alex, who works for the largest online outdoor supply store. She not much of an outdoorsman, but she likes her boss and likes her job. In fact she likes her job so much she really wants to make Vice President. In order to do so, she goes on an information expedition (scouting) at a dude ranch in North Dakota that her boss is thinking of buying for their corporate retreats. While there she meets the owners a brother and sister team of Josh and Taylor. Taylor is eager to sell so she can travel the world...but Josh is reluctant because he wants to keep their family legacy intact. Unfortunately the bank is breathing down their neck.

This was a wonderful fall romance that centers around activities at the dude ranch...mucking out the stables, outdoor cookout, star gazing and horseback riding. The lead actors were a delight and I think romantics will fall in love, must see for fall.

A bit heavy on the Autumn

They went seriously way overboard on the Fall decorations in this one. Everything decorated but the outhouse. And maybe that was too.

Clowning

Its was a typical hallmark movie boy gets girl or girl gets boy but I know the clown in this film personaly and she didn't get credit. And its film where i live which is awesome but they need to credit the little people that acted in this film or any hallmark fill. I adore the fall season but you dnt see the main lady and leading guy do anything outdoors together like no horse riding together or the leading lady helping out at the ranch why is that and the leading man not getting her to do anything she doesn't seem outdoorsy type. Anyway so ya hallmark needs to change things up instead of the typical movie theme.

Cute and fun despite the typical plot

Obviously these movie plots are all the same, so the detail is what matters. Love the secondary couple as much as the leads - a spin off with them would be fun, as would one about the sister.

Annoying sound track

Throughout the movie a "Peaceful Music" annoying bass is played that destroyed any enjoyment of the beautiful scenery and okay story.

Acting and cinematography are great

Hallmark does a great job with this one based on Lily's great screen presence (her smile is disarming) and believable chemistry with Wes is solid. A great supporting cast fills out the story, and it's all filmed in a beautiful fall setting (in Manitoba Canada). You know Hallmark is cliche, but it feels really good here

Great ranch movie!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie! An executive, Alex, goes to a ranch that she and her boss would be perfect for company retreats. The owner of the ranch, Josh, won't sell, and meanwhile, his ranch is losing money. His sister Taylor does the cooking at the ranch.

Taylor hurts her hand one day while baking pies, goes to the doctor. When Alex tries making the pies, hilarity ensues! There are other funny moments, too.

Andrew Walker and Lindy Booth and the whole cast are excellent! Paul Essiembre is excellent as Alex's boss. The ending is great, and is a very happy ending, which is, thankfully, how all Hallmark movies end.

City girl gone country

8.1 stars.

An inspiring story about a career driven woman who will not compromise her love of nature, even for a promotion to vice president of the company.

The characters are so infectious in this story, I am blown away. Although I've seen both these actors in several movies, they are at the top of their game in 'Under the Autumn Moon'. Alex (Lindy Booth) falls in love with a dude ranch that is owned by Josh (Wes Brown) and his sister. She has been sent there to see if her company should purchase it to use as a corporate retreat. If she succeeds in closing the deal, she will be promoted. Josh will not settle for any company buying the ranch if they aren't willing to preserve it as is. Even though it's in jeopardy of being foreclosed, he will fight as long as he possibly can with everything he has. After Josh shows her the "ropes", Alex begins to share in his conviction of the sacredness of the ranch, and also falls for Josh.

Let the sparks fly, these two have an engagingness unlike most Hallmark couples in this one-of-a-kind adventure.

I have noticed a definite pattern that generic Hallmark is higher quality and less repetitive than Christmas Hallmark.

This is required watching if you like ranches, and horses, and all that good old country stuff.
