One of the funniest israeli comedies in the last decade

Over the time, this show earned the titlw of a cult show - and for a reason. It's funny, witty, and relatable. A diversity of characters, all perfectly played by the talented actors. Hopefully season 3 won't disappoint.

Funny, realistic, and smart

I found myself binge watching the show so many times, because it's absolutely amazing. Smart episodes, Funny actors, and simply just the best. It deserves all the fame it got.

You don't have to be Israeli to laugh....

The humor is universal but, if you're familiar with Israelis, you'll see all types represented here. The English subtitles are great because they translate modern and every-day Hebrew or Arabic sayings into something more familiar to US audiences. The 4th-wall breaking (talking to the camera) provides some of the funniest moments since the employees each see a situation differently and, frequently, more honestly (and funnier) than their actions would indicate. Is it derivative of The Office or Parks and Recreation? Sure, but that's high praise.

Sometimes spot-on, sometimes strained

A supermarket is a very suitable setting for a comical series, and this Israel series is by no means the world's first supermarket comedy. It's best when it's closest to the reality-- when we can recognize the comedy as only a slight exaggeration of what we ourselves confront in our everyday lives as shoppers and workers. Unfortunately, there are times when the writers go way over the top.

The show started out on Israel's educational TV station, with a side agenda of demonstrating how Israelis from different backgrounds work together despite their differences, so I'm especially disappointed that as the comedy goes over the top, the token Arab is somewhat clownish in his embrace of Israel's majority culture.

The series takes the form of a mockumentary, in which an interviewer seems almost to jerk the characters into a fourth dimension as they are free to discuss incidents that seem still to be very much in progress in real time. But if you accept that convention along with other departures from credibility, the series can often be good for a laugh.

Extremely Overrated

Could make it through only 5 episodes. Not sure how this could muster such a high IMDB score, but full of one-dimensional character and poorly orchestrated scenarios. If workplace comedies are your thing, try Trollied, The Office (UK/USA) or Parks & Rec for far superior shows.

In terms of great Israeli comedies, I'd recommend Beauty and the Baker (Lihyot Ita) or. Nora Koler's Rehearsals (Hazarot) and you'll instantly see the quality difference.

In terms of Checkout, i appreciate the character diversity as it does show Israel as more of a melting pot, but unfortunately everyone is walking stereotype.
