"The perfect example of a 7 out of 10 game"

I just read a much-hated review of this game on this board. Could you have possibly imagined even five years ago that someone would complain that most of the zombies in a game are white? That's where we are, folks.

I put the title in quotation marks because I'm borrowing it from an article about this game. And I agree with it. This game has improvements from its predecessor-- I especially like the fact that so far the enemies aren't cartoonish James Bond movie-like villains. But the animation for the combat is a bit weird to me, and it's maybe even too easy. I've really enjoyed it so far, though. I will probably update this review when I complete it.

Good sequel with a few issues

From what I have played so far I am highly enjoying, I loved the first dying light so have been waiting for this sequel for what seems like forever, unfortunately there are a few issues and I'm finding some of the controls especially combat rather difficult, hopefully once a few more updates have been applied the issues will be resolved.

Adrian Shephard would rather kill Zombies

This game is fantastic. Killing and Running from zombies is a new pass time hobby of mine because of this game. Trust me. I kill aliens for a living. If you are not play Dying light 2. You're wrong! If you give this game a horrible review because you're woke. You're also wrong!

Wahhh muh wokeness!

Long awaited sequel to an amazing game. Definitely feels different compared to the other but if you play it like the RPG it wants you to play it as it's a great time. As for the review crying about there only being white males. What about the all the female characters you meet in the first 15 mins? Or throughout the world? Or are you angry it's not a strong minority only game? Never the less...great game.

Pretty much perfect so far

I have about 7 hours in this game and I couldn't be more happy with the game. I had the 1st dying light so I was anticipating this game quite a bit. Its easy to say the combat and parkour systems in this game are world's better than the last. I haven't played much of the story but there's nothing I can find to complain about it. The skills in this game are really fun to use. Although there is a fair amount of bugs here and there.

I liked it

The game was pretty good. I like it. The combat is fun, the graphics are great. The story is not the best. But I enjoyed it. The first dying light was better, but this was good.

Absolutely living up to it's name

This is such a great game. You can spend a good week straight playing and still have things to do! Full on action, adventure and choices. This is definitely worth the buy. I'm using the Xbox series x and the graphics are crisp, clean and definitely better than the PS5. I have zero complaints.

I'll play it a second time once it has some updates

I liked it. I think it would've been better than the first game, if there wouldn't have been so many glitches like where the characters were so quiet(the whole cutscene before the final boss was utterly ruined because of the characters being quiet(not the main guy, just npcs)) I couldn't hear them or weren't even there or if someone was on the floor they were standing up but the screen still appeared as if they were on the floor. Just a big glitchy mess but still a semi good game. I think it'll be better once the glitches are fixed. Like the title says, I plan to play it again when I see there's more updates.

A fun game with some issues

Gameplay(one big exception) and graphics are very solid and it truly feels like the end of the world. The dying light zombies have always been a bit different with the day and night cycle and that continues here. Plus a way bigger map for you to explore. But there are some issues here that hold this back from being a truly great game. Story and the controls when traversing up and around things. What happens to the simple but extremely fun parkour system? Getting around, jumping and running was the best part of the first game and here it literally feels like I'm learning how to walk again. Way to complicated and there are parts of the game that I almost quit entirely due to how bad the mechanics worked. The story is a barebones story of a zombie apocalypse that you have seen before. Guy from a lab looks for his sister across a destroyed world. Boring villains, boring factions, terrible characters who you wish you had the option to kill. The reason I still enjoyed the game was because of the atmosphere, killing zombies, and once you learn how to get around it can be fun. Overall somewhat disappointing game but I did have some fun with it. Just brace yourself for frustration when first learning the controls, and don't expect TLOU story telling.

A bloated, kinda broken mess with some fun gameplay when the game doesn't glitch.

I love the first game, I was very excited for the sequel but what could have been an equally awesome experience ended up a broken, bloated and to some extent disappointing entry. The gameplay is (sort of) it's strong point. When it worked it was fun (both combat and parkour) and this whole sandbox feeling was engaging, at least at the start. After a while not only did it get repetitive, but a lot of glitches were encountered as well(enemies would clip in the environment, objectives not being updated etc). The game was easy, and it would get hard only when the bugs would take place during combat. Still, some enjoyment WAS there, but it got buried under a lot of unfinished and broken issues.

The story wasn't that memorable in the first game, in this one it was even worse. Boring characters, uninspiring settings and missions (with one or two exceptions), and so so SO much dialogue. Techland just wanted to this unrealistic 500 hour thing, and got a bloated story as a result. I love story driven games, but the scenes and dialogue needs to be important somewhat to the narration. Here there was just talking for the sake of talking, each ncp would just ramble endlessly, making me ich to press that skip button. The ending was dump, and up until that point I was just waiting for the game to end.

I'm disappointed in this game, and I really wanted to like it.

Solid Sequel

This review is a bit pre-mature as I've yet to finish but here's a few stand outs of the game so far.

Parkour - This a major step up the from Dying Light 1. It takes everything you know and love about Dying Light's parkour and turns it up to 11. This is certainly the best parkour system I've seen in a fist person game.

Environment - While there are a few issues the environment is near perfect, everything has been designed around the parkour element so you'll always find a path on the rooftops of where you need to go.

Graphics - They are a major upgrade from the first game but for a 2022 game it does suffer is some areas. The lighting is not as good as most games nowadays and when you use the flashlight no shadow is cast. But my main issue with the graphics is the NPC's. The faces are very cartoony and the facial animation overall is not acceptable for a game released in 2022. With that said the story is not a major part of the Dying Light franchise so it is not a huge impact on the overall enjoyment of the game.

Performance - This is a bit of a mixed bag, the graphics settings are very limited so it's difficult to tweak it for optimal performance. It's not terrible but it's not great either. With my 1070ti and 9700k with 32gb of ram I was running at about 35-45 fps @1440p on medium to low settings. The game is poorly optimized and mid level systems will struggle to run it. But there is a solution, there is an option to lower the tender resolution then upscale it with post processing.

This takes my fps from about 40 to over 100, the downside is with a lower render resolution textures become blurry.

Combat - Combat has both improved and declined since the release of Dying Light 1. Human vs Human combat has significantly improved since the first game, the flow is much nicer and more defined than before. But Player vs zombie combat has taken a hit, the rag dolls that were in the previous game were pretty incredible. Hit a zombie in the leg and he falls over, kick them and they'll fly backwards and fall on the ground. Kick them into someone spikes and they'll go right through the zombie. Unfortunately with Dying light 2 the rag doll is almost nonexistent. Instead if plays one of several pre-canned animations depending on where you hit a zombie. This is fine at first but becomes very repetitive and apparent it's just repeating the same animations instead of the dynamic rag dolls in Dying Light 1.

Story - I will not be going over this as it's spoiler free and I've yet to finish it.

Conclusion - Overall this is a great sequel and addition to the Dying Light franchise, some of the things that I've mentioned can be fixed post launch and I sincerely hope that Techland does fix them as this has potential to be one of the best games of 2022.

Trees Growing on Roofs Should Be a Thing

This game is captivating. It is captivating on every single aspect, from the beautiful and harsh land scapes of the city to the cruelty and gore of the darkest places in the darkness. This game is not perfect but in some ways I actually prefer it to the first game. The first game is great, Crane is a legend, but this has some surprising power to it.

First of all, I love the voice acting, it is SO amazing and in some ways way more convincing that in DL1. Second of all, I know it's a stretch to get the trees and plants to grow on top of a buildings, but I love it. It gives such a organic feeling to the game amd makes it more enjoyable than the first game. Sometimes I just glide down to watch the scenery. The paraglider is a great add.

Third of all, the music is VERY recognizable and I enjoy it.

What makes this a 8/10 game and not more, is the plot. Finding Mia is not a convincing motivation for Aiden to do stuff. I wish he was fleshed out more. Lawan and Hakon are a great add and I enjoy connecting with both of them, but Mia stays as a distant character that I have no reason to go after.

Overall this game is a great experience. Now on my second play through and nearly 300 hours behind, the story keeps on going.

A disappointment

I had really high hopesfor this game since I absolutely fell in love with the first one but it was not good enough. The parkour and the map was much better than the first one but it did not feel real enough. And the story was not that good. The game is good but just inferior to Dying Light 1. The prequel just hit different. Night missions gave me nightmares during my sleep and I just loved that. This one just could'nt give the trill it's predecessor gave. The incredible adrenaline rush when being chased or stealthing during the night si missing here aswell as it is easy to roam around rhe city.

Brilliant sequel

Dying light 2 is an amazing game with a brilliant environment and the perfect soundtrack to fit every mission and through free roam. This game in my opinion is a big step up from the first game and this game makes you want to play on. The main character Aiden is a pretty decent protagonist with a tragic backstory on how is so called sister Mia got taken away from him by a doctor named Waltz. Who you later find out that Mia was his daughter and that Aiden made a promise to him that he wouldn't leave and not to Mia. The final decison of the game on whether to leave Mia or save Lawan was a hard one in my opinion and I think the other decisions were a bit lack Luster although pretty intense at some moments.

Good, but not as good as the First one.

PS5 Review.

DL2 is a quite good sequel, it could have been much beter though..

The Graphics are really nice, sound effects are good, although the high altitude wind sounds are very scarce this time.., the music is good ocassionaly, but not as atmospheric and as great it was constantly in the first one.. Also the AI is quite good and smart..

The story is quite a mess with numerous holes.., and with long and boring dialogues.. and the zombies don't play a significant role any more.. especially at night..you just don't feel a serious threat any more..

Generally the game doesn't feel like a sequel of Dying Light 1 but like a different game with some zombies in it.

Also the map wasn't very useful..and maybe they could also add some modern weapons in the game..a few at least.., I don't understand what happened to all the guns!..the zombies ate them?..

The game is generally Good and Recommended, especially if you liked the great First one.

Fantastic game!

I played the first game I didn't like it as much as I liked the sequel. The games as some amazing graphics it's all looks so Beautiful and the combat is easy to learn and simple to use and it's so smooth. The parkour is way better in this game than the last it's much more easy to do than In the first game. The world is huge with so much to do and explore and the map is so good looking. The zombies are scary especially at night and the zombies have great designs. The story is great and the game lets you choose what to say and let's you make Choices that affect the world around you and the story! The voice acting is great and I had no clue that Rosario Dawson was in the game. Overall the games is fantastic and way better than the first.

Simply trash

Trash, ruined by directors. Made dl2, then were reworking it and deleting content for the last 2 years. A lot of things removed, downgraded or deleted again.

Dead Island 2 is a better game

As someone who dabbled briefly with the original Dying Light on PS4 but never fully clicked with its parkour-heavy gameplay or first-person melee combat, I approached Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition with tempered expectations. My interest in zombie melee games was reignited after enjoying Dead Island 2 on sale, which prompted me to give this patched-up version a shot. Here's my take on Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition, a game that offers a sprawling world and a surprisingly deep story, but struggles with clunky controls and frustrating traversal.

In Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition, you step into the boots of Aiden Caldwell, a wandering Pilgrim tasked with delivering goods and news between scattered survivor settlements in a world ravaged by a zombie virus. Beneath this nomadic life lies Aiden's true mission: finding his sister, Mia, whom he left behind as a child to escape the brutal experiments of Dr. Waltz. The narrative is a standout, weaving a complex and emotionally engaging tale that surprised me with its depth, especially compared to the lighter, more pulpy tone of Dead Island 2. I found myself genuinely invested in Aiden's journey and even grew attached to a couple of characters. The game's faction system adds a layer of moral complexity, forcing you to make tough choices between groups like the Peacekeepers and Survivors. These decisions carry weight, though they sometimes feel like no matter what you choose, things go south for someone-credit to developer Techland for crafting such dilemmas.

However, comparing Dying Light 2 to Dead Island 2 is inevitable, and the differences are stark. While Dead Island 2 leans into slower, gore-soaked combat with a tongue-in-cheek vibe, Dying Light 2 demands constant movement, tasking you with dodging lightning-fast zombies and human enemies wielding similar weapons. The gore is present but feels less visceral than Dead Island 2's over-the-top splatter. The world here is far larger and more intricate, filled with diverse factions and characters, though I often struggled to keep track of who was who without their distinct uniforms.

My biggest gripe lies with the controls and combat. The button configuration is downright odd-having the run button where it is threw me off, and the jump mechanic felt delayed, making parkour less fluid than it should be. Combat, while not terrible, is challenging, especially at night when zombies become relentless. I often found myself more annoyed than thrilled during fights, as enemies, particularly the larger ones, are massive damage sponges that soak up hits. Human enemies block excessively, and even with upgrades, I never felt truly powerful. The Reloaded Edition introduces firearms, but they feel tacked on and underutilized. The game's difficulty can be punishing-expect to rage-quit a few times as enemies swarm you from all directions. Switching to easy mode might be wise if you're short on time or patience.

Traversal is another pain point. Despite Aiden's speed, covering even 400 meters feels like a slog. A parachute introduced later helps, but it doesn't fully alleviate the sense that getting around takes longer than it should. The main missions are generally solid, but side quests are a letdown. Most involve fetching a person or item, sending you on a tedious multi-stop journey that feels artificially stretched. Given the clunky traversal, these missions quickly grew tiresome.

On the brighter side, the sound design shines. The tense, fast-paced music ramps up the intensity, and the voice acting is solid, meeting genre expectations. Visually, the game is decent but feels like a patched-up PS4 title. Set in an autumnal world, it looks fine during the day but turns murky and less appealing at night. The framerate holds steady for the most part, which is a relief. Scattered watchtowers and military outposts offer bonus loot, but these feel like standard open-world filler, reminiscent of Ubisoft's formula.

Ultimately, Dying Light 2: Reloaded Edition earns a 7/10. Its compelling story, complex world, and meaningful choices elevate it, but clunky controls, frustrating traversal, and uneven side content hold it back. If you've played Dead Island 2, the comparison might dampen your enjoyment, as it did for me. Still, Techland's ambition is clear, and I'm optimistic about what they'll deliver in the next Dying Light game. If parkour and melee combat aren't your thing, consider tweaking the difficulty or approaching with modest expectations.

After waiting years horribe disappointment

I have been waiting this game since finished first one. If you care about bugs and glitches, this is the game you should stay away from it. The game fits the bill in terms of parkour moves, outstanding graphics and athmosphere. I also want to emphasise that soundtracks are my favuorite apocalypse thyme movie/game soundtracts. I am a big fan of zombie franchise howewer dying light 2 can be one of the most unplayable game because of technical issues. I am still waiting with the hope that next game will fix these problem, but I think I am loosing my faith to Techland. I am now pretty skeptical about purchasing next game!!!

Did the developers played the game?

Dying Light 1 was fun. Lots of fun actually. I had great time playing it and I loved almost everything about it. With Dying Ligh 2: Stay Human, this isn't the case. While it's an enjoyable game, it reminded me why I stopped playing such games altogether.

Although the game has seen big improvements with the latest updates, the gameplay just makes you mad all the time. The third time I got mad, I've just uninstalled it from my PC, saying goodbye once and for all. I'll never download it again, even if they improve it. And - of course - I'll probably never buy anything from the same company again.

A good example: As you play and unlock more and more skills, you have a few options such as "press space to jump even higher". It never does that. Sometimes it does that out of the blue. It says "tap E to jump higher". Never does that either.

The grappling hook is also a big mess. It just never works as you'd expect, and sometime you find yourself dying again and again over a wrong jump just because you accidentally removed it as an option when using the mouse's wheel.

A game should be fun, not making its players angrier and angrier over little things such as double clicking the space and just never working, or not being able to use the grappling hook because the mouse wheel just keeps removing it. There were lots of times that I was thinking if the developers actually played the game by their self.

Such a bad gameplay for such a good game.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 is more about survival and exploration than horror. At the beginning of the game, the night is still scary, but over time you adapt, master the new mechanics of the night (bracelet). Compared to the first part, the nights have become less scary. The plot turned out to be ambiguous, it is kept in suspense, although not without flaws. The atmosphere, gameplay and sense of freedom make it a worthy continuation of the first part. I recommend it to everyone who loves action, parkour and survival in the open world! Cons of Dying Light 2: Repeating tasks, combat system, optimization and bugs, less horror.
