I'm glad that Netflix has been getting a lot of television shows from Asia, because there are some terrific shows to be found there. Several months ago I watched the fantastic show "OCTB" from Hong Kong, and recently I have started to watch this particular show from mainland China. I'm not sure what caused me to give it a look, since shows about teenagers and romance don't normally interest me, but I have now watched a third of the episodes, and I am absolutely charmed by this show. It is by no means perfect - there are some (minor) cultural references that don't translate well, and the story moves at a very slow pace. But the show remains buoyant all the same. The characters are not perfect, but you understand and sympathize with them, even if they make on occasions actions that you don't approve of. The issues the characters deal with are universal and understandable whether you're from China or any other country. You also get to learn about what life is like for ordinary Chinese citizens. And the tone of the show is refreshingly low key and warm instead of loud and harsh. I'm very much looking forward to watching the remaining episodes.
Honestly surprised that this show isn't blowing up as much as Meteor Garden 2018 (which was an atrocity).
There is great plot, script, and videography here and best of all, good pacing. There are no unnecessary plot lines and the show was entertaining without being inane. You will find Chen Xiao Xi endearingly naive and silly and Jiang Chen frustratingly intelligent but also emotionally obtuse. The side characters are also lovable and memorable. I actually wished there were more episodes but understand that the story is better off finished than dragged out.
If you enjoy cute romantic dramas with classic tropes, you will like this one.

I've been watching korean dramas for a while and someone recommend A Love So Beautiful to me. It was my first chinese drama. I completely fell in love with this show!! It's a sweet coming of age love story. It has already become one of my favorites and better than some korean shows I've watched lately. All the actors are wonderful. The story is a bit slow at the beginning but it was still very entertaining. I had the biggest grin on my face watching some of the cutee scenes in this show. I loved the characters. The main character Chen Xioaxi has crush on her neighbor since childhood Jiang Chen. She's a naive girl and he's an aloof, anti social guy. The show depicts their relationship from teenage years to adulthood. There were some up and downs but in the end it truly is A Love So Beautiful. If you want to watch a cheesy, cute, funny show this is it. It's also a great show about friendship. Please don't miss out on this amazing show. It's on NETFLIX!!!
About a girl who's in love with a guy who initially isn't in love with her. She's so cute and adorable, it's hard not to get into the show and storyline. The characters all did excellent jobs. Highly recommended if you enjoy clean cut teen dramas! It was really great overall.

These shows are the ones that make me feel sad once I've still watching them. They are outstanding and have heartfelt plot lines
A Love so Beautiful is an extremely sweet and often funny show about high school crushes and relationships. You get to see the main character, Chen Xiaoxi, grow up, as she pursues her crush, Jiang Cheng, and her talents. Additionally, the friendships between the characters develop, often in unexpected and heartwarming ways.

I haven't watched very many dramas, let alone completed most of them, so I wanted to write a review on A Love So Beautiful after having finished it (and recently rewatched it since I saw it in 2018) and this show is for me still remains one of my favorites! The story follows teenager Chen Xiaoxi and her crush on classmate Jiang Chen, who lives in the same building but nonetheless acts cool and pretty much indifferent towards her. Typically, I'm not a fan of the Cold-Hearted Guy trope, but here it's done so well I found myself empathizing with Chen Xiaoxi's feelings about Jiang Chen, and his aloofness isn't ignored by the other characters, but genuinely adds a dimension to the story and poses challenges. Which is one of the strongest points of this show: the characterization. Each character has motives and flaws, but most of all, their personality and actions seem to genuinely affect the course of events or other characters, without feeling overly dramatic or soapy. This is in part due to a decent script along with some great actors, who all do a great job. The romance is sweet and cute; if you're a fan of cheesy romance dramas this show will definitely deliver, while also being surprisingly real in some of its later plot points (I won't spoil it but all I'll say is I actually really enjoyed how this show also portrayed growing up and how it affects your relationships/friendships as well). And even though a lot of its tropes or dynamics have been done in other forms of media, I think the actors and show itself really come together and make it feel actually fresh, and I was mostly just happy to see likable characters that I could empathize with. The only downside is the show does start off a little slow in that I don't think the earliest episodes compare to the strength of the later half, but once you get past the first four episodes (which mainly just build on character and tell smaller stories) I think it is definitely worth it. Especially since it's on Netflix! Don't miss out if you have the chance.
I have watched other similar school puppy love stories but this one is different in case of casting. The plot is very similar as one lead is cold, strange and aloof pretty much abandoned by parents and other one is clingy pestering around very close ot annoying the cold characted to lash out at various occasion.
Just as a viewer I know that they will end up falling on love at the end but just the experience of someone annoying you with countless chat, and showing public display of affection is uncomfortable.
However the drama is bit off with various scenes don't make sense like how right they meet after along breakup, she is sleeping in a hospital room while he is watching her after the surgery. Stealing drugs from medical room and covering each other and taking the blame for no reason makes no sense and looks way too dramatic.
I'm going to be a bad messenger here but I feel the chemistry and acting is lacking with the main leads. Hu yitian has very expressionless face through out and last epilogue was only way I understand the character soliloquy. On the flip side Shen Yue, the female lead was not cute to me and i feel she has same level of character play in all the dramas she plays. I just dont find any character development in her (with all the other dramas she has played). The supporting roles were better in playing their roles and I truly enjoyed them.
As a fan of chinese drama and writing, I'm truly disappointed in this one, despite of such high rating at IMDB and I picked this one to watch.

Good show but this is the wrong trailer there is a Korean show with the same name and that's depicted in the trailer... these actors and actresses star in a mandarin based TV show entitled, "A Love So Beautiful"
This drama is simple yet very heartwarming and surprisingly funny.
I was surprised because I was expecting another dull simple story, but I was wrong.
The story evolves and the characters with it, I liked to see the growth of their personalities and how they change from being teens to adulthood.
Very entertaining .
This is the best Chinese drama that has all the ingredients: great cast, story, cinematography, music, humor, and lots of love and warmth. It is the gold standard for Chinese dramas in terms of production value that at least matches and surpasses the quality of Korean dramas. I hope more Chinese dramas will follow this production quality. "A Love So Beautiful," highly recommended and truly beautiful!
If u r intending to watch the k and c both versions pls do watch the korean one first cz the korean one is too sweet to be missed but at the same time if u watch this one first then the korean one will look like a disaster! It's a remake after all. They changed quite a few things in the korean one but only for the better.
In this one things were more realistic but few things were too much for example why did Jiang Cheng bring his fake gf in the bachelor party! Glad that korean version skipped that. Humors were same in both. So were the bonding between them 5.
This Chinese version is more smooth in all incidents like them being a couple, first college party, their break up and the awkwardness after meeting ur ex after 3 yrs is less in this one! But the korean one! Made a whole lot deal out of it. But I didn't like how Jiang made her apologise to him after 3 yrs. They both were at fault for their breakup so she shouldn't have been the one apologising.
Over all I would say since this one is the original one, it's better but as a k drama fan I would say Kim Yo Han's expressions as Cha Heon in Korean one is NOT TO BE MISSED! And who else is starting Go Go Squid 2 after this drama? Well I am! Hu Yitian!

Chinese school romance dramas are kind of my thing and this one does not disappoint. It has everything, innocent love, intensinty, second lead, good friendship vibes, chemistry between the girl and the boy, nice built up, drama, high school dynamics. Sure, the story wasn't original and there are tons of dramas out there with the same theme, but at least they hundled it pretty neat and the final result was decent. Also, the girl was cute and funny, whether the boy was kind of a snob at first, got better afterwards, but kept his attitude, which was refreshing because in most dramas the male lead starts with a i-hate-you-i-am-too-cynical and makes a 360 degrees turn a few episodes later. So, 7.5 out of 10.

Oh this drama hit me like an arrow through the heart. I am a grown ass woman but I'm still touched by this love story. It is for sure a classic Chinese drama, at least when it comes to the theme and the characters. But it has such a wonderful portrait of friendship it actually makes me miss my own friends although I have them close. It's warm and lovely and light and even though it has parts describing loss and sadness it is throughout an amazing love story. Well done!

I enjoyed this so much. It's a simple story of first love among high school students, and it follows them into adulthood. If you're familiar with Asian dramas then the tropes will be familiar; however, A Love So Beautiful is executed so well that you'll be swept away with the joy, sadness, and angst of first love. The cast has a wonderful chemistry and I particularly enjoyed the sismance. I like when dramas include strong female friendships which ring true to life. All the actors did a great job and they look very age appropriate even as they age up from HS. C-dramas can be hit or miss, but this is a hit on all levels. The OST is beautiful and the cinematography makes me want to tour China and hang out. There is just so much good stuff in this drama. It has a little something for everyone. Highly recommend!
