- Oliver O'Toole: Ms. McInerny, would you like to go steady with me?
- Shane McInerney: [jokingly in a southern accent] Oh. Why Mr. O'Toole, this is all so very sudden.
- [In her normal voice]
- Shane McInerney: Oh, you're serious.
- Shane McInerney: But going solo isn't always easy though.
- Oliver O'Toole: Are you saying you missed me?
- Shane McInerney: You were only gone for one day but it did give me some time to think.
- Oliver O'Toole: About?
- Shane McInerney: Well like, what one does to go from being a *thing* to going steady, you know.
- Oliver O'Toole: Uh, I don't know, are there going steady rules?
- Shane McInerney: Oh several, I looked it up. Yep, pretty serious stuff. Stuff like, no hanging picture frames with anybody but me.
- Oliver O'Toole: I can pretty much guarantee that.
- Shane McInerney: No hanging bead dividers without prior approval.
- Oliver O'Toole: I think I can probably live with that.
- Shane McInerney: And when Rita and Norman get married, you have to dance the first dance with me.
- Oliver O'Toole: I only dance with you.
- [They kiss]
- Shane McInerney: [Walks by a pile out for the trash and stops to pick up an old empty picture frame] Oh I love this! I know just where this should go.
- Oliver O'Toole: I believe it is already there.
- Shane McInerney: I thought you liked antiques.
- Oliver O'Toole: I do. True antiques have character and a providence.
- Shane McInerney: Providence?
- Oliver O'Toole: A history, a story, a pedigree. But junk is... well just...
- Shane McInerney: Trashing waiting to be turned into treasure. Trust me this will look great on one of those blank walls you keep staring at.
- Oliver O'Toole: Oh, well I don't see the point in decorating a temporary space.
- Shane McInerney: Oliver, you're gonna have to face it sooner or later. The old DLO space is now the new online shipping room. We're not going back there.
- Rita Haywith: [Referring to Dale] You know I always wondered if you two had been a *thing*?
- Oliver O'Toole: [Obviously uncomfortable] A thing? Well, uh you know we've always been good friends. There, uh, might have been a time where I uh... but she didn't... but then she, uh... but then I was, uh... uh, do you mind if we change the subject?
- Dale Travers: Oliver it's okay to say it. You and Shane are...
- Oliver O'Toole: A *thing*. An early thing.
- Dale Travers: I figured. And you know what it's, I'm really happy for you. I think you need someone like Shane to shake you up a little.
- Oliver O'Toole: You think I need shaking up?
- Dale Travers: Absolutely. Yes. You and I we, we solve our problems by knowing where the lines are and following the rules. And Shane... well she colors outside the lines if you know what I mean.
- [Oliver laughs and nods]
- Dale Travers: But if you put the two together you've got...
- Oliver O'Toole: A mess.
- Dale Travers: Or maybe... something beautiful.
- Oliver O'Toole: My dad's coming in today to see what we can do about that room you smashed your way into.
- Shane McInerney: Don't you mean 'the room into which I smashed my way'? Or, have I finally broken you down and I ruined your love affair with the English language.
- Oliver O'Toole: I can't imagine you ruining anything.
- Shane McInerney: [Oliver just finished petting a cow] I am very proud of you, I know that wasn't easy and all you want to do is wash your hands right now, right?
- Oliver O'Toole: Was I that obvious?
- Shane McInerney: No I just, know you that well.
- [Pulls out hand sanitizer from her purse and Oliver laughs as he accepts a squirt]
- Abby (9): Polly's really sweet. But she has to be the first one out of the parlor or she'll stay in there all night.
- Oliver O'Toole: You allow Polly to sleep in your living room?
- Abby (9): No silly! The parlor is where the cows get milked.
- Shane McInerney: [Nudges Oliver with a smile] Silly.
- Sunny Haywith: Do you drive a stick shift Mr O'Toole?
- Oliver O'Toole: Oh well I am, uh, a little bit rusty.
- Shane McInerney: I can.
- [Oliver looks at Shane surprised]
- [an extended scene that was cut from the US version but is part of the international version. Shane and Oliver are walking to the house after seeing the cows]
- Oliver O'Toole: Well, I, uh, I told Dale we were a thing.
- Shane McInerney: A thing. Is that, is that different than going steady?
- Oliver O'Toole: I'm not sure. Maybe you have to be a thing first then steadily continue being a thing to subsequently qualify it as steady.
- Shane McInerney: What does steady actually mean?
- Oliver O'Toole: Well, you know, it's uh...
- Shane McInerney: No, I uh, I don't because I actually live here, in the 21st century.
- Oliver O'Toole: It's uh, it's like, uh the wall you knocked down. Yes, we were over here being, uh friends and now we are over here being more than friends and I don't know what to call that.
- Shane McInerney: Progress.
- [Kisses Oliver on the cheek and hugs his arm]
- [From scene not shown in the US. The Postables are returning to the DLO after their first visit to the farm. Shane has told them the vase might be stolen]
- Oliver O'Toole: I think my dad may be able to help us out with this.
- Shane McInerney: I'll start researching right after dinner.
- Rita Haywith: Well if it's true this could be really really serious.
- Oliver O'Toole: Well let's not jump to conclusions. 2 and 2 doesn't always equal 4.
- Norman Dorman: They always have to you.
- Oliver O'Toole: I'm just trying to think outside the box or uh, in the picture frame. And when did you learn to drive stick shift?
- [Shane shrugs her shoulders]
- Rita Haywith: Hey, listen. Do you guys hear that?
- [There is singing coming from the DLO]
- [From extended scene not aired in the US]
- Ramon Rodriguez: [Looking at an antique round picture frame hanging empty on the wall] I love it. It's such an elegant paradox, a world of possibilities inside a simple frame, so very Shane and Ovilier. Such a thoughtful gift.
- Shane McInerney: It was Ovilier's idea...
- [Ramon is called away]
- Oliver O'Toole: Ovilier?
- Shane McInerney: [Says with her best accent] Ovilier.
- [Oliver and Shane both laugh. Joe walks up to them]
- Oliver O'Toole: Dad, we can't thank you enough for helping with Rita's parents.
- Joseph O'Toole: Are you kidding? A week in a tiny dusty room singing folk songs with aging hippies? I felt like a kid again.
- Shane McInerney: You're gonna love what they did with the room. They made it into a lab for Norman.
- Oliver O'Toole: Really?
- Joseph O'Toole: It was Bill's idea.
- Shane McInerney: Well sadly though they weren't able to work in the, uh waterfall of hanging beads.
- Oliver O'Toole: [Sarcastically] Oh, that is a shame.
- [They all laugh]
