Splendid And Different!

This is the best British crime series I have seen since I really can't recall. The plot is genius, the writers have simply done a perfect job, the camera work is brilliant, and it all just oozes of a director, cast and crew having a hell of a time. The main actors are basically fantastic, with main character actor Nabhaan Rizwan making a highly believable portray of a young English Pakistani, who develops from an ordinary youngster into a very life experienced man. Rizwan is utterly outstanding with his interpretation and must have made quite a breakthrough with this role. The only reasons for not giving top score to this production are sadly and only a few some less credible acting performances.

Excellent addictive!

As a third gen Pakistani I could understand the complexity of family life. The series has it's flaws but is entertaining. Left me thinking about the show long after I had finished viewing.

A lot of food for thought. Would definitely recommend.

A masterpiece

Impeccably directed and produced, a marvelous script delivering an open wound of a story. Well researched and intelligently constructed, it provides a realistic look into modern police procedure and the struggle of survival by those living in today's margins. Hair-raising plot twists that mess with your emotions and loyalties, forcing you to keep adjusting which hero or anti-hero you're rooting for. Nobody is better than the Brits when it comes to these shows (nobody, not even the French) and Informer has just set a new bar in the genre. Not to be missed.

Thought provoking

I discovered this on iPlayer and binge watched it in a couple of days. It's a very well done, original, thought provoking and very well acted drama. The lead actor is phenominal in his role as is the actor Roger Jean Nsengiyuma (he gave me a young 2Pac vibes). Great to see some young talent emerging on BBC. I love Jessica Raine, but she is in danger of being type cast. Her character was no different from the character she played in 'The Last Post'. A bored and lonely housewife. She can do better! I recommend this show because it felt very real, it is original and a day later I am still thinking about it. I hope the BBC will do a second season! This show is much much better than 'The Bodyguard'.

Must see

Gripping storyline, I was on the edge of my seat. The acting and script is great. I also love the way informer was filmed.

Be our eyes and ears in the shade

  • Informer - is a British thriller series - Drama and it tells us the story of the infiltration of a London Pakistani (2nd generation) who becomes (we force his hand) informant for the anti-terrorism police. The idea for this series is very good and we feel the desire to know more as soon as we realize the development of the plot. A small stressful atmosphere is felt then the main character evolves in an environment that was completely foreign to him before. We feel very well all the psychological pressure and ill-being of this informant who is admirably well interpreted by: "Nabhaan Rizwan" in the role of (Raza Shar, the informant) other roles are also valued in this series as: "Paddy Considine"
in the role of Gabe Waters and "Bel Powley" in the role of Holly Morten being the counterterrorism agents who follow Raza Shar the informer. Personally I did not find that the end of this series was in line with the story and we could even say that it is surprising in more ways than one, but that will not spoil the interpretation of the facts. A good series to discover. I say no more, would reveal a little too much, believe me it is worth it.

Decent until final reveal

This was a good watch up until the revelation of the shooter. It did not make sense and kinda ruined an otherwise good show. Would've given higher than 7 if it wasn't for the poor final episode

excellent story line

I always believe in simplicity when it comes to series that highlight current situations . Informer does so, though a bit slow, its worth the wait cause of the suspense. Be it mild at times...what matters most to me is whats the bigger picture. I cant wait to watch the upcoming episodes. Yes...had to fight spoiling it for you.

A TV Marvel

Political, personal and a fantastic example of modern television's quality 'Informer' was amazing to be entirely honest. Twisty and masterfully edited the presentation was astounding and full of great performances its only qualms is a bit of a pacing issue cramming a mass amount into only 6 episodes. Other than that I cant speak highly enough and as a one off season it's a piece you must watch, cant recommend enough.

Nice twist. Didn't see that coming!

As always, Paddy Considine plays his part exceptionally. Just my opinion but.... This is an amazingly well written, fantastically acted series. From the actor playing Raza (first role I see), to the well worn Paddy and Sunitra, every look, word and action is beautifully linked and played out. Including politics, religion, stereotyping, split lives, family, betrayal and love, this script is well written, produced and directed, and should appeal to everyone with any awareness of the world today. It is also sad, funny, joyous and - at times - a little scary...watch it, enjoy it, and see what I mean! Weaving through side stories that tease and take us off focus, every character is as important as the next, culminating in twists and a turn so unexpected, you won't see it coming in the slightest. Being a massive fan of Shane Meadows' films, I've seen Paddy in many of his roles - and this one is played as superbly as any. I would recommend this to anyone...if you're a little lost by the end of the first episode (though you shouldn't be), stick with it - it is, without doubt, worth it in the end.

Restore a bit of faith

Restore some faith in broken Britain, in multicultural Britain. Paddy Considine is superb! A standout performance for me. All the cast are superb, especially the main household Asian actors. The story to me was better and is a lot more original and unpredictable than The Bodyguard (a recent bbc hit) As per, the early episodes are excellent although the final may seem an anti-climax to some viewers - still a very unexpected hit. Series 2 incoming?

Just got blown away!!!

Don't judge for it's unpopularity. You will surely love it by the end of the season. Just keep yourself going for the first two episodes and then you won't sleep without watching the rest. Excellent writing enables sufficient character buildups and shocking twists and turns. Both the leads play their roles to perfection with the excellent support provided by the rest of the cast. Loved the way how both the timelines merge at the end. Believe me you are in for a treat. Just go and watch.

Dirty Dealings and Manipulation

Set in modern day London, the series concerns the police's fight against terrorism and the criminal intelligence unit charged with gathering intelligence on potential terrorist acts. The lead is played by Paddy Considine, (The Girl with All the Gifts', 'Pride', 'Cinderella Man') as an experienced officer with a troubled past, and co-stars Bel Powley, ('The Diary of a Teenage Girl' and 'Wilding'), as a new officer in the unit desperate to prove herself, and newcomer to TV drama, Nabhaan Rizwan. as a young British Muslim man of Pakistan descent who is manipulated and dragged into the dark world of being a police informant. The intelligence believes itself to be in a race against time to prevent a massive terrorist attack in London and is prepared to go to any length in order to stop it. I found little to fault in the first episode, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and look forward to future episodes.

Really good tv

I have thoroughly enjoyed the series so far and haven't stopped watching even to watch my usual series that came on the last few night's. I find drama series to typically be far better acting out of the states with the exception puff very few. the character development is intense in this series, the underlying themes about ethnicity and race are very well played, the relationships between characters is really well done and realistic. I have no idea what's going to happen from scene to scene so i find the series very gripping. Well done!

Instant classic

Excellent story line. Acting is superb. Cinematography is gritty, surreal and haunting. It draws you in to the characters. A modern Greek Tragedy. One of the best series produced in the past few years. If you like the psychology and human complexity found throughout the works of John Le Carre, you will appreciate the quality and complexity here. The cast is first rate with special recognition to Nabhaan Rizwan, Paddy Considine, Jean Roger Nsengiyumva Cadeaux. Jessica Raine, and Bel Powley Neal Street productions have created a must see.

More Than Meh, Still Not Great

Would've awarded the series 8-9 stars. As many others point out, though, the ENDING. A character makes a completely unwarranted and snap change in personality only to justify a dramatic surprise.

Attention to detail...

I always read the reviews on IMDb to decide whether to watch something. It's interesting to see what people have said and what keeps them watching, or not. This is my first review. I loved this first episode and continued to watch the box set. All I can say is... kudos to the talented writers out there we enjoy and watch on our TV screens/devices.

Distinct, but somewhat over-sophisticated

The concept and the modus of flashbacks are intriguing, but the pace is not duly maintained, and the person and motives of a certain shooter remain vague an unrealistic. So the ending scenes are rather trivial and may pave the way for Season 2, but not necessarily either.

The inclusion of DS Gabe Waters´s past undercover period does not provide a big value to the course of main events, and the mistakes he made dealing with it are at variance with his experience and skills. The character of the Informer is rather static, and even a pleasant actor like Nabhaan Rizwan is unable to forward it to a real leading role. Here, the catchiest is Bel Powley as DC Holly Morten.

So, bearing in mind that this is a BBC series, and in comparison with its counterparts, I would not rate it with more than 7 points - definitively above average, but not a must-see.

Less clever than it thinks it is

'Informer' has a lot going for it: a complex plot, a bold structure, and the great Paddy Considine in the lead role. But I struggled with this BBC series. Firstly, I found it genuinely hard to follow what was going on. Secondly,it seemed over-cooked, with some of its tough-as-nails dialogue verging on parody. I simply didn't get a feeling that anyone was acting out of any ordinary, plausible motivation, or that undercover operations really work in this way. Perhaps I simply thought it less clever than it thought it was.

Superb!

Great acting, complex story line which make it really interesting, great script. I've watch the series twice because I enjoyed it so much. The only downer is there is no season 2.
