At the beggining I thought it was going to be just boring love story: poor girl and rich guy. But starting with 14th episode it started to be a very interesting, intriguing drama. Great actors, great story. I have returned to this show already couple times. Unforgettble. If you like crying at the movies, you must watch it!

The story line at first seems to be somewhat straight forward until the unfolding of each character begins. Each and everyone makes mistakes, but each of them has their own reasoning behind them.
Pride is a very fragile topic, especially for Turks and consequently their series. Some very well highlighted problems in these series are: woman's pride and chastity, family's pride and duties being exaggerated or neglected, money as a tool for survival versus money as a tool for power and negligence; love in various forms: motherly love with its obstacles, brotherly love with its issues, sisterly love and envy, first love, bittersweet true love worth fighting for, love between individuals with a great age gap, unrequited love, self-love, narcissistic love, self-sacrificing love, and platonic love.
The series contain great life lessons worth learning, such as honesty, ability to listen to both sides before judging, intentions and feelings that are being far more important than certain actions, mental strength due to knowing the self and restraining that which is wrong, etc.
Fazilet hanim first seems to be a very frustrated woman due to her financial struggles and environment, wishing to save her daughters from the poverty she's found herself in. Although, her story has an explanation for her desire to give her kids a better life. She is a human being too, despite all of her tricky games, she's a mother caring for a child's happiness, a mother that's seen so much that wants to protect her innocent grown-up kids from mistakes and the fate she had. Money played a very very big role in her life and she literally is mad at money, that's why she sees it as power: the more the better. At the end of the day, she learns her lesson and helps her daughters to follow their hearts seeing what they had to go through because of her actions.
Hazim bey is another example of a father that is wishing to protect his kids from the bad realities of life. By being over-protective her makes a lot of mistakes for which he pays at the end. Although his intentions were good, decisions made could not be undone. As a result, two of his children succeed in life, and two lose everything they've had: one its life and another loses himself.
Ece transformed from a naive girl that had no clue what she wants in life with so many insecurities to a mother with an aim, a mother who knows what she wants. He love stories are very different: the crazy one with a young man and a mature love which teaches her about respect, understanding, and support. Her battle with Selin ends dramatically.
Yasin is embodiment of young boiling blood that neglects to listen but is eager to act as quick as possible. Because of this, he loses a lot. Eventually, he learns his lesson hoping to have learned it way earlier before things got too bad.
Nil is shown as a very contradictory figure. First, she's obsessively in love with Sinan, but later she recovers and discovers the beauty of knowing the self and the beauty of independence. If only Selin too could have had enough time for therapy...
Sinan. Narcissist. His ego and pride takes over him and as a result he loses his heart and his identity. In my opinion, he deserves it.
Kerime is a mother that's made the biggest mistake in her life when she's given up her child in return for worldly favors. As a result, she loses her mind looking for her child and is blinded. Very sad ending awaited her.
Hazan. An insecure girl with a mask of masculinity who discovers herself through the path of the first crush, first silly dreams. Soon after discovering herself she realizes that her old dreams the old self dreamed of are not what she wants today as a grown-up, mature, beautiful, confident woman. Her love is unlike others. First complete rejection, then continuous obstacles and sacrifices of her pride for the loved ones, and finally full acceptance, fight for love, and then reunion with the one who she's been fighting for and who's been fighting for her, not against her. She is with the one, who was ready to give up his life for her, and give his all, fighting the world of injustices, and finding the internal strength to stand up against the world and prove the love that keeps their fire alive. Although Hazan did not find the strength to confess about certain things, but she didn't give up on her loved one after the secrets unfolded. She kept fighting and was rewarded for it.
Yagiz - the most unique character of the series. His manners, beliefs, and loyalty were developed by himself, not by others. After feeling left out, forgotten, misunderstood, unsupported, he's found that strength within himself to become the man who would withstand everything that life throws at him, not turning away, not running, not hiding from the problems. He faces them, he solves them. He sacrifices for others not seeing the same coming his way, but he doesn't give up because he stands for justice and for truth. His strength brings the best outcomes in his life: love, acceptance, understanding, support, and most importantly he knows who he is without any need of titles and names. He is the perfect man who makes his parents proud, his wife happy, and those around him respect and love him for who he is.
Best series ever, and the best couple ever too. There was no need to show any physical interactions/love in order to feel the love the protagonists have for each other. Their actions reveal far more love than any kisses and intimate scenes could ever do.

If I am not mistaken, I found this drama when I am looking at works of Deniz Baysal. Yeah, the title is not so engaging, but once you let yourself to seat and start watching the dizi, you will certainly be intrigued by the story it offers. At first, I don't know that the main couple is Yagiz and Hazan, as the summary of this movie I found on Google was not even mentioning Yagiz' name. But, when I look at Yagiz, who is portrayed by Caglar Ertugrul, I was directly attracted and voted for him to be the male lead.
I thought this drama conveys more about family, betrayal, trust issue, brotherhood and mental health than romance. You know, the main couple doesn't even have "couple-time" like any other screen couple we're so used to watch in dramas. Their only moment as a couple can only be watched at the end of the episodes, that is at the episode of 50, for only a few seconds!
Nevertheless, the writer does a brilliant work at how she/he draw the relationship between Yagiz and Hazan, how beautifully (and painfully) the two grow their feelings. What does it mean by loving someone truly, you're not only care about the one you love, but also at her family. Yagiz is an exceptional character that will mesmerize every woman with his outstanding personality.

With a title like Fazilet Hanim ve Kizlari, you can bet an international viewer like me would not be enthusiastic about this series. Seriously the producers should look at how they name their work. But I am thankful I listened to my online watch party recommendation and watched it.
Is it good? Well the story is about the evil that resides in human hearts and how easily people give in to it. So its a difficult watch-- there is a lot of stress, characters undergo really horrible experiences and the viewer at times feels totally exhausted by the ugliness the characters show-- esp Fazilet Hanim, Selin and Sinan. But in the midst of the darkness, the character of Yagiz stands out like a brave little candle fighting the wind and with every episode grows brighter and brighter till the end it just suffuses your heart with light. The story is uplifting because Yagiz keeps our faith intact. As humans, we believe that good will prevail and evil will be vanquished; that love will be rewarded and hatred punished. Honestly, in this show , Yagiz is the character which sustains your faith in goodness.
The actors are all very good. Esp the actor playing Selin, comes across as a really despicable yet vulnerable girl. Hazan is played very nicely by Deniz and she brings a wholesomeness to her role. Her smile lights up the darkness in the story. The actor playing Fazilet is too loud and almost caricaturish -- she makes you hate her. Sinan is really the most weak actor. He doesnt manage to convincingly portray the character at all.
The best for the last-- Caglar Ertugul-- words fail at the sincerity with which Caglar has played the character of Yagiz. His intensity, his way of conveying hurt through his eyes, his meaningful silences-- its like poetry. I pray Caglar gets really good projects because he has the potential of being the hottest star on the Turkish entertainment world.
Also kudos to the beautiful intense love story between Yagiz and Hazan. How difficult it is to love someone who is your brother's beloved? How beautifully the moral struggle is captured. Out of all the dizis I have watched, really this story of Yagiz and Hazan stands at the top as the best most poignant love story, along with Cesur ve Guzel
My advice is that the story is too dark but watch it for the beauty of what one single good man can do to a sea of banal evil. I give it 10 stars only for Caglar and the character of Yagiz. Watch it for the love story of Hazan and Yagiz
This series is different from the rest that we're used to. It presents so many different aspects of life - social status, love life, family life...in a serious and real way. I would say that it's more real than any other. The cast is amazing, as well as their acting, that made me cry so many times, but also laugh.
Definitely recommend it, since I've watched it three times and every time I was blown away by how good it is and how many emotions it unravels in me.
If you're thinking that it's just another Turkish drama, you're so wrong. Please give it a chance!
