I fall in love with this movie. I felt sad when this film ended, I was already hypnotized in this film. Taken from a true story, Hisashi and Mai really have an amazing story in bringing all the atmosphere, from heartwarming, happy, to sad. I am always touched in every scene. They both really have amazing and unbelievable personalities, but it's true.
Both Takeru Satoh and Tao Tsuchiya showed very good performances. The chemistry that is displayed is very charming and complementary. Takeru Satoh has once again proven that he is one of the best actors in Japan. How he portrays a vulnerable man, never discouraged, and always saddened, for me it is really amazing. I think now I'm starting to idolize Tao Tsuchiya. He's putting on a great performance here. He really transformed into the character Mai very well. Her acting performance in becoming a cheerful woman until she turned into a woman with a struggle with disease, it amaze me everytime I see her.
Incredible cinematography supported by beautiful scoring and music complements this film to be even more extraordinary. Over all, I love it so much. One of the best Japanese movie I've ever seen. Of course, I'll be watching this again, without a doubt.

The movie is very good. According to the film, it is a story based on real facts. A romantic drama from the situation of a disease of one of the characters. A story of a persistent love that surpasses the difficulties of life. I recommend.
8-Year Engagement is half romance and half health-recovery movie, and it's interesting for both parts.
The early establishing scenes aren't especially interesting, but once it gets into the heart of the movie it's a pretty interesting and unusual story. It's actually based on a true story, although I found an article describing that real story and basically, everything in the movie that seems like an cheesy Hollywood invention is, in fact, not part of the original story.
Also, what is wrong with the guy who wrote the user review that begins "I'd tap that but she was not anything special." This is your reaction to a love story? Ugh. (Also, shame on IMDB voters who've inexplicably made that the top review.)
Anyway, very sweet movie. Check it out.

It does not take long to forget you are reading subs, that is the intensity of this movie. Every time you know what will happen next, you are wrong. A true gem from Japan, with A+ acting. It is so draining that I wont watch it often, but it will for sure be on the repeat list. Basically boy falls in love with feisty girl who falls into a coma.A definite worth the money to see, I now have a copy.
