    A...Aa - Andam...Anandam !!!

'Navvadam oka bhogam, Navinchadam oka yogam' quoted the famous writer and director Jandhyala garu. His movies were epitome of entertainment and he had the skill to pen for both commercial and art movies with equal nonchalance making him one of the best film makers in the history of TFI. After his demise, every telugu movie lover hungrily awaited for his cinema heir. Enter Trivikram, a post grad in Nuclear physics who introduced 'prasa' into our lives so much so that 'Praasa lekunda pallu kuda tomukovatledu yedavalu'. His movies have become a part and parcel of our lives. His dialogues are heard in our living room, his lines are improvised by lovers in their attempts to woo their beloved ones and his buzz words (in movies) are commonly used among friends. Yep, Maa Tv needs to be given some credit for this. But you gotto agree this man is pure genius.

A aa is Trivikram's 8th movie as director. By casting Nithin, our Maatalu Mantrikudu Trivikram surely did raise some eyebrows - Sahasame seyshadu ra dimbaka. But Nithin has given his career best performance. We always had to pause, rewind and play multiple times to understand his dialogues. He used to mouth them at 10 wps (words per second). Trivikram made sure that his lines thru Nithin were well understood and enjoyed by the audience. Samantha - cuteness overload. After Jessi in YMC, she makes us fall in love with her all over again with such adorable expressions that I'm running out of adjectives describing her without going over the 21+only line. Next beauty - Anupama Parameshwaran - the bubbly Premam gal. She puts in a commendable act in A..Aa and is definitely here to stay. At one point in TFI, if people discussed about Mallu beauties it was either Shobana or Shakila both from different perspectives. But times have changed and there are lot of decent mallu actresses zooming their way into TFI. My review wouldn't be complete without the mention of one fine artiste - Rao Ramesh. A..Aa's one of Rao Ramesh's supreme performance and Trivikram pens superb lines for him. He makes you laugh at his antics and scoff at his character at the same time. Absolute bliss. Nadiya, Naresh, prema pavuralu Praveen, Hari Teja (Mangamma) etc contribute equally to the proceedings. Srinivas Avasarala was totally wasted. It was sad to see such a good actor in an insignificant role. There's no Brahmi in this movie. Yep pinch me and pinch yourselves. It's true.

Music by Mickey is run-of-the-mill although a couple of songs stand out. 1st half of the movie is breezy. Trivikram keeps you engaged and entertained to the core. Joke, joke, joke and bam second half hits you. This is where Trivikram loses his plot and the story drags and drags. Obviously, when you have a wafer thin plot, it becomes tough to keep the audience engrossed for close to 2 hrs. The story also has shades of Attarintiki Daredi as well. Trivikram needs to come out of AD hangover and focus a little more on the storyline in addition to the ample entertainment which he is always known for.

After a tedious 2nd half, climax descends upon and Trivikram weaves his magic wand again. He ensures that you step out of the auditorium with a smile on your lips. In commercial terms, A..aa brings in a breath of fresh air to TFI after a disastrous summer with two biggies biting the dust.

Finally it's A..Aa (titles) to AahaaaaAAA (end credits) !!! Enjoy it with your family and friends.

Nithin is family drama genre king. Sam is queen.

Synopsis: Why isn't Anu's mom repentant? Why is Nagavalli (Anupama Parameswaran) reduced to a caricature? What happened to the ferocity of Pallam Venkanna (Rao Ramesh) and well, didn't we deserve a better ending?

Movie Review: There's There's a really interesting dialogue by Rao Ramesh in A... Aa: "Road widening lo sagam kottesina building la undi paristiti... Undadaaniki veelu kadhu. Vadaladaniki manasu raadu," he says. Why interesting? Because it perfectly sums up how you feel about the film after watching it! Because Trivikram takes you on this ride which will leave you with mixed emotions making you both like it for its simplicity and freshness and dislike it for not being told well enough.

If you've watched Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala's Meena (1979), then A... Aa will be a story you know, albeit with a modern take. The adaptation of Yeddanapudi's novel of the same name, the film had the story of a rich, city-bred girl who is wants to break free unable to bear her overpowering mother. She falls for her bava when she happens to go on a trip to his village but that's when trouble begins because their families have long running differences.

Well, Trivikram really gives this modern take an edge of its own and sets it apart from both the book and the earlier film. In fact, the contemporary take of the adaptation is done extremely well by And rehashing that tale, Trivikram takes us into the lives of Anasuya Ramalingam (A - Samantha) and Aanand Vihari (Aa - Nithiin) and of course, their families. And in terms of adaptation to suit the present times, the director does a fabulous job weaving in new characters and giving the old characters a new spin. In fact, despite being a very old story, he makes it feel extremely new and the first half of the film is a treat to watch.

He is called the matala mantrikudu for a reason and enthuses us with some quirky one liners, the best being mouthed by Rao Ramesh. But there's one that Nithiin says which did get quite a few whistles: "Watch unna prativadu time ostundanukuntadu... Kani chuskuntadante." Cool, eh? And his narrative and writing are aided by Mickey J Meyer's music which is refreshing and the camerawork of Natarajan and Dudley who give the film a visual splendour.

He brings in the likes of Naresh (makes us wonder why anyone doesn't give him more to do!), Rao Ramesh (does his brilliance need an explanation?) and Anupama Parameswaran (she's vivacious despite the patchy character sketch) who stand out from the rest.

But then, there's a downside for this film too. Somehow, the chemistry between Nithiin and Samantha doesn't really work. Both of them individually do a great job, especially Nithiin who has given his best ever performance, but as a pair there's an evident awkwardness which is sad considering the film's prime plot is their love story. But that's probably because Trivikram doesn't really establish how and why they fall for each other. You even wonder if he is actually in love with her or is just plotting revenge from her mother.

Otherwise, it's not like A... Aa is perfect because it has its own little niggles. The countryside is reduced into something unreal with excessive graphics and the flavour of the village doesn't really hit the viewer. Trivikram takes his own pace in narrating the second half, so much so, it becomes tedious and then, all of a sudden, he hurriedly ends the film making you wonder what just happened. And just as the end titles roll, you are getting up from your seat with so many doubts in mind - Why isn't Anu's mom repentant? Why is Nagavalli (Anupama Parameswaran) reduced to a caricature? What happened to the ferocity of Pallam Venkanna (Rao Ramesh) and well, didn't we deserve a better ending?

    Subtle and splendid

Trivikram expressed the movie in the best possible way.His magic of words goes uninterrupted until the climax. It's devoid of most routine commercial aspects such as item song, entry song, fights to elevate hero. One can't stop laughing in the movie but that does not mean that the movie is just a comedy. The music is a perfect fit, one would start loving the songs after seeing the movie. I never thought Samantha had this much in her, hats-off to her and Trivikram sir for brining that out. Nithin did more than justice to his role as expected. All in all it's definitely worth watching. Whether Trivikram's fan or not? ONE would leave the theater fully satisfied..

    Good but not the best

Movie is good in terms of cinematography and Nithin has done an awesome performance. The storyline of the movie was very simple and sort of predictable. The locations of the movie are great and well presented on screen. Songs were also good. The things I did not like were: Satisfactory Screenplay, worst execution of Action Scenes, some illogical scenes.Love Chemistry between Samantha and Nitin could have been slightly better as we don't feel that much love Feeling from them . But overall it's a fun movie to watch but not as good as FIDAA, SAMMOHANAM. Ratings:6/10.
