Whatever problems "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" has with its portrayal of Galactus, none of them come from his actor Ralph Ineson. While Ineson's appearance is completely concealed inside Galactus' armor, his greatest strength as an actor is his deep, Yorkshire accented voice. That voice sounds like it should be coming out of a wrathful cosmic god like Galactus.
Ineson has been working as an on-camera actor since 1993, but he's had a career renaissance in the last decade. Before that, he was part of the cast in the U.K. version of "The Office" as Chris Finch (the counterpart to David Koechner's Todd Packer from the American version). In the late 2000s to early 2010s, he also had minor parts in the "Harry Potter" films (as the Death Eater Amycus Carrow), "Game of Thrones" (the Ironborn Dagmer Cleftjaw), and...

Some films seem to be tailor-made for home video success, and the 2024 supernatural horror film Immaculate is one of them. That said, the movie should've done much better in theaters, especially since it was star Sydney Sweeney's immediate follow-up to her smash-hit romantic comedy Anyone But You. Sweeney put all her might behind promoting the film, as did distributor Neon. They memorably got a couple of real nuns to watch bits of the film, and captured their reactions on camera. Immaculate follows a young American nun who moves to an Italian convent and discovers all sorts of horrific secrets about it. As she digs further, she experiences something straight out of Rosemary's Baby, the classic horror film based on Ira Levin's novel. Immaculate is now available to watch on Prime Video, where it promptly found a spot on the global viewership charts.

Sydney Sweeney made her horror debut in Immaculate, a film about a nun who's "chosen" to conceive the church's redemption. The actor said the movie borrowed themes and stories from horror classics like Rosemary's Baby.
Per Flixpatrol, Immaculate is on Prime Video's Top 10 streaming chart, ranking seventh as of Aug. 13. Reminiscent of the nun-sploitation films of the 70s, the movie featured the same religious themes and body horror as The Devils, Love Letters of a Portuguese Nun and The First Omen. Despite heavy competition from 2024's Ghostbusters and Godzilla x Kong sequels, Immaculate was a commercial hit, earning $35 million against its $9 million budget.
Much of that success was due to Sydney Sweeney's role in the production and development.Immaculate revolves around Sister Cecilia (Sweeney), a novitiate nun assigned to a small-town convent. While fulfilling her vows and tending to their ailing, dying nuns, she spends her first nights having nightmarish visions.

In “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Marvel’s First Family faces off against the walking, talking, planet-eating Galactus for the first time — sort of. Though the cosmic devourer has appeared in a Marvel film before, Matt Shakman’s latest entry to the MCU marks the first time an actor has actually portrayed Galactus.
When the Fantastic Four meet Galactus, they are faced with a colossal man in purple garb with a tuning fork helmet. Despite the visual silliness of this character, his immense size and booming, theater-shaking voice immediately establish a threat unlike the Four have ever faced.
But who lent their voice to give Galactus such gravitas? Read on to meet the man behind the planet eater.
Who plays Galactus in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”
To play Galactus, Marvel Studios tapped Ralph Ineson, a Robert Eggers regular and rising horror icon known for “The Witch,” “The First Omen” and “Nosferatu.

In addition to debuting the “It: Welcome to Derry” teaser trailer, creators Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti shared the first 10 minutes of the premiere at San Diego Comic Con.
That footage will not be made available online — you’ll have to wait until the series premieres in October on HBO Max — so here’s a rundown of what was shown.
A film projector whirs to life. Derry’s Capitol Theater is screening The Music Man, establishing the series’ 1962 setting. The camera travels through the theater before landing on a young boy sucking on a pacifier he’s too old for. Referred to as the Clemons boy, he’s a new character created for the series.
The usher spots Clemons, who makes a run for it. A bit of dialogue reveals that the boy frequently sneaks in, and his rough family life is alluded to. The usher chases him through the lobby,...

It's been a tough year so far for studio horror films, with the odd exception, of course. Only a few weeks after Sony's 28 Years Later appeared to defy trends and deliver a respectable haul at the box office, the studio's I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel found itself being overwhelmed by competition. The slasher film debuted this past week, and underperformed with just under $15 million in its opening frame at the domestic box office. Audiences were clearly more interested in watching the holdover hits Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, and F1. However, despite its lukewarm debut, I Know What You Did Last Summer has now overtaken one of last year's surprise horror hits, the low-budget supernatural chiller Immaculate.
Starring Sydney Sweeney as a nun who moves to Italy and discovers horrific secrets at her convent, Immaculateconcluded its box office run with $35 million worldwide and $15 million domestically.

Body horror is having something of a comeback. Titles like The Substance, The Shrouds, and even The First Omen and Alien: Romulus are updating classic templates with new, ooey, gooey bouts of body horror. It’s arguably the least accessible subgenre of horror, largely because it targets our innate revulsion. We see bodies in new, grotesque lights, yes, but it simultaneously reminds us of how vulnerable and soft our own bodies are. That’s why I can’t do eye gore, y’all.
There are several classics. Some, like The Fly, are award-winning. Others, like Excision, are grossly underrated. Wherever you fall on the scale of body horror (and how much your own body can take), there’s no denying it’s one of the freshest, most urgent subgenres around. Luckily, horror streamer Shudder just quietly acquired one of the best body horror movies of the century. You might have seen it before,...

Michael Mohan's 2024 horror thriller "Immaculate" is another entry in the well-worn "demon baby" genre, a horror sub-category that solidified in 1968 with the release of "Rosemary's Baby." In the film, Sydney Sweeney plays Cecilia, a young nun who moves into an Italian convent, following her own spiritual senses. While there, she shockingly becomes immaculately pregnant, and the convent sees her child as potentially divine. Of course, there is a shadowy conspiracy afoot, and Cecilia begins to suspect that some of the older nuns and the convent's local priest (Álvaro Morte) might be involving her in some sort of demonic ritual. The film has a gloriously shocking ending, although it's a little too arch and arty to be the trashy thrill it aims to be. It's unusual that "Immaculate" came out so close to "The First Omen," another demonic pregnancy thriller about a young nun.

The Omen True Haunting Stories(Photo Credit –YouTube)
The Omen did not need much help to be terrifying on screen, but what happened off-screen told a different story, and it is one far more chilling. Before a single frame rolled, the shadow was already there, lurking around the production like it had something to prove. The film, which tells the story of a boy adopted by a diplomat who turns out to be the Antichrist, was drenched in death and disaster both in front of and behind the camera.
Lightning Strikes Multiple Planes Connected To The Omen
The string of bad luck and misfortune kicked off in 1975 with none other than the legendary late actor Gregory Peck. He boarded a plane to London, and during mid-flight, it was struck by lightning. One may consider it to be nothing more than a fluke, but then it struck the writer’s plane too.

Since its 1993 release, multiple efforts have been made to either reboot or continue Sylvester Stallone’s high-altitude action film, Cliffhanger. One of the more recent iterations had Stallone attached in a supporting role that would have seen him pass the torch to a new generation of mountain climbers, much like his approach in Creed. However, that version fell apart following a major creative overhaul, which brought on a new set of cast and characters as well as a new director. The project was subsequently reimagined as a gender-swapped remake, with Lily James taking on the lead role. Now, James has provided an encouraging update, confirming that the film has made significant progress and is on track to hit screens soon.
James will next be seen in the movie, Finally Dawn, due out next weekend on July 18, 2025. While promoting the film recently, the actress spoke to ScreenRant, in an interview where...

News of the Cliffhanger reboot movie came last year as James was revealed to be the franchise's new star, with Jaume Collet-Serra directing and Pierce Brosnan acting as a co-star.

“Oh, it was so much fun. I don't know if I can give anything away. It's such a different world, but it's so much fun. It's a classic that I think the only way I can describe it is,...

Action icon and The Beekeeper star Jason Statham will soon unite with frequent Gerard Butler collaborator and Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh for what’s sure to be action thriller magic. While several details, including the title of the movie, are being kept under wraps for now, MovieWeb’s own George Edelman had the chance to speak exclusively with Statham’s co-star, Mickey 17 star Naomi Ackie, about the action outing. And the hype train is now chugging...
While Ackie, who has seen her star rise rapidly following outstanding performances in the likes of Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, Blink Twice, and Mickey 17, wasn’t able to give too much away, she did declare the movie “a classic,” before heaping praise on The Stath.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is home to numerous legendary Marvel Comics villains. Indeed, each film in the franchise has tried to outdo the ones before them by introducing the biggest, baddest supervillain to take on its heroes. Sometimes, however, the McU's interpretations of these villains can be a bit underwhelming, which is why "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" is pulling out the big guns when it comes to Marvel's first family and their introduction to the property.
The trailer for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" offers a glimpse of Shalla-Bal aka the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) as she arrives on Earth, warning the Fantastic Four and the rest of humanity their world has been "marked for death." Longtime Fantastic Four fans will no doubt realize her warning means the planet eater Galactus (Ralph Ineson) is on his way. So far, however, we have only gotten brief looks at the cosmic...

After surviving plenty of challenges at the global box office in the last few weeks, Sony’s Until Dawn faced its biggest competition yet this week, in the form of Final Destination Bloodlines. The latest installment of the long-running horror franchise exceeded expectations in its debut weekend, while Until Dawn surrendered over 700 theaters domestically. Despite the setback, however, the video game adaptation was able to pass what will likely be its final global box office milestone. While the movie hasn’t exactly set the box office on fire, it has more than managed to recover costs.
With around $20 million domestically and another $30 million from overseas markets, Until Dawn is passing the $50 million worldwide as we speak. The movie probably doesn’t have more lives left and will soon begin a new phase of its journey when it debuts on home video this week. Produced on a reported budget of $15 million,...

Here to restore mainstream horror's battered bankability, Final Destination: Bloodlines is overperforming in its domestic box office debut, thanks to tremendous reviews and audience reception. Bloodlines is the long-running horror franchise's first new installment in 14 years. During this time, the Final Destination movies have accumulated legions of new fans thanks to their popularity on home video. This popularity was reflected in the film's excellent opening-day haul of $21 million, which includes the $5.5 million that it made in Thursday previews.
Bloodlinesis projected to gross around $45 million in its first three days of release, making it the biggest debut of the franchise. By comparison, fellow WB horror film Sinners, which has now completed a month of release, opened with $48 million. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the acclaimed film had a record hold in its sophomore frame, grossing $45 million. The movie slipped to the number three spot this weekend, and is on track to generate around $15 million.

“How do you control people who no longer believe? You create something to fear.”
Horror in the 1970s was dominated by the catholic church. With the success of Rosemary’s Baby (1968) and The Exorcist (1973), audiences hungered for films centered on demonic possession and satanic corruption. Richard Donner’s 1976 film The Omen followed suit with a young Antichrist named Damien (Harvey Stephens) strategically placed in the home of a powerful politician. The story begins with a cursed birth and fraudulent adoption then skips ahead several years to catch up with a strangely sinister little boy.
But lurking within is another story of unthinkable evil. Arkasha Stevenson winds back the clock with The First Omen, a pregnancy horror film centered on Damien’s unwitting mother. Margaret (Nell Tiger Free) is an idealistic young nun who arrives in Rome only to find she’s the target of a sinister cult hiding in her new convent.

Aren’t horror franchises supposed to get worse with each entry? Nah. We’re in a golden window for later-stage prequels and sequels. Indies like V/H/S/Beyond (7th entry) to backtracks like The First Omen are healing the stigma of a Jason Goes to Hell or Texas Chainsaw 3D. Here to offer its axe as the latest example for an inspiring trend is Final Destination Bloodlines, bringing Final Destination back to prominence with a bloody entertaining sequel fourteen years later.
Freaks (and Kim Possible) directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein take a risk on their lore-spanning continuation of Death’s favorite franchise. The Final Destination movies have relied on the cyclical motions of inescapable fates as illustrated by gruesome, Rube Goldbergian death sequences. Netflix has unveiled a thrilling teaser trailer for its upcoming global fan event Tudum 2025, offering some exciting previews of its future slate of shows and movies, including a fresh look at Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Mary Shelley's iconic 1818 Gothic novel about a scientist who brings to life a terrifying monster. The acclaimed filmmaker has been hard at work assembling his latest creation ahead of its release in November, and this new sneak peek of Frankenstein proves it's aliiiive!
The footage of Isaac's mad scientist pops up in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, following a title card for Frankenstein at the 0:41 mark in the video. He is illuminated in the clip by the glow of a burning fireplace, as he tosses aside what looks to be a newspaper and seemingly turns his attention to an envelope. Talk about following a tough act. Sony's Until Dawn opened this week, days after Ryan Coogler's Sinners defied horror movie expectations both critically and commercially. Until Dawn will struggle to hold its ground in its debut weekend, while Sinners is expected to blaze past box office projections, like it did in its debut frame. Inspired by the video game of the same name, the movie opened to mediocre reviews and not-so-promising audience reception, which certainly doesn't bode well for its future. These missteps will ultimately work in Sinners' favor, as more casual audiences give it a chance thanks to the excellent word-of-mouth that it has been attracting.
Until Dawn currently holds a "rotten" 51% rating on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. But the film's audience score on the platform stands at a significantly superior 71%. A more accurate reflection of audience sentiment can be observed in the C+ CinemaScore that...

Fans of Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 psychological horror movie Possession weren’t exactly thrilled to learn that a remake is on the way from Paramount and Smile filmmaker Parker Finn, but director Razka Robby Ertanto beat the remake to the punch with Possession: Kerasukan.
The loose Indonesian remake of the cult horror film has quietly been available to stream on Netflix for months.
The synopsis reads the same, “Returning from military duty, Faris is shocked to learn that his wife wants a divorce. He decides to investigate and discovers a sinister secret.”
Żuławski’s film recently received a new 4K restoration, “Banned upon release in 1981, Żuławski’s stunningly choreographed nightmare of a marriage unraveling is an experience unlike any other. Professional spy Mark (Sam Neill) returns to his West Berlin home to find his wife Anna (Isabelle Adjani) insistent on a divorce. As Anna’s frenzied behavior becomes ever more alarming,...

The Fantastic Four are known are Marvel’s “First Family” but this summer, they will technically be newbies to the MCU. Of course, we’re using that term very loosely.
As the nickname denotes, the characters are true Marvel icons and the actors playing the core four are anything but newbies, each starring in massive projects before now. But more on that momentarily. For now, we’re here to tell you that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is starting to become a bit clearer, especially with the latest trailer.
Set to hit theaters on July 25, the film takes place “against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world” and follows the Fantastic Four as they take on the Devourer of Worlds — Galactus.
Here is who you need to know in the film.

David Gordon Green’s Halloween grossed $259 million against a meager $10 million budget when it was released in October 2018. If anything in Hollywood talks, it’s money, and suddenly, there was a lot of money sitting untouched in horror’s past. Scream came back to critical and commercial success. Texas Chainsaw Massacre topped the Netflix charts (but severed critics). Hellraiser popped by for a hello, and Candyman reintroduced an entire generation to a genre classic. Legacy horror isn’t a new phenomenon, but it is a curious one, especially given the age of the properties Hollywood looks to resurrect. Olwen Fouéré is fantastic, but she’s not Sally Hardesty. The prequel route solves those problems, and The First Omen shows them how it’s done.

I recently started a horror movie club with some friends from out of state. The ultimate goal is to slowly desensitize them and later convince them to join a wooded cult I intend to start in the next twenty years. But, in the meantime, it’s an excellent opportunity for me to share some of the horror movies I’ve been loving recently. Our next two films scheduled, for those interested, are Arkasha Stevenson’s The First Omen and Jason Yu’s Sleep. I’m not playing around as curator, okay?
For the inaugural meeting, I had a really hard time narrowing down the list of options. Few of them are horror lovers, and anyone who’s ever helped initiate a new genre fan knows how precise that first horror movie has to be. It’s a make-or-break moment, and through hours of deliberation, I thought of the perfect movie.

Two actors from TV’s buzziest shows hope to make some noise with a Netflix movie.
Michelle Monaghan, one of the stars of this season’s White Lotus, and Severance headliner Adam Scott have joined Robert De Niro in The Whisper Man, a crime thriller from Netflix.
James Ashcroft, who directed the haunting Kiwi thriller Coming Home in the Dark, is helming the feature, which is being produced by Agbo, the banner behind Netflix’s tentpole sci-fi movie, The Electric State.
Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco are producing for Agbo.
The story, based on the New York Times best-seller by Alex North, is set in motion when an eight-year old boy is abducted. The father, a widowed crime writer, looks to his own estranged father, a retired former police detective, for help, only to discover a connection with the decades-old case of a convicted serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.

It’s a well-known fact that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences don’t tend to favour genre films when it comes to shortlisting for their tentpole awards ceremony. It’s simply not their bag and that goes that double for anything that happens to fall into the disreputable slum of horror. Indeed — bar a few outliers like Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist or Get Out — scary movies rarely get a fair shake come Oscar season. Certainly not when compared to, say, glitzy biopics or period pieces that have a more prestigious air about them.
Yet, against all odds, the genre has done quite well for itself this year. Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is dominating the technical categories, The Substance has found itself as an unlikely contender for four of the “Big Five” awards, and even Alien: Romulus has gotten a look in for its VFX work.

The 23rd edition of the Golden Schmoes voting period ended at midnight, and now we’ve got a full list of all of the winners chosen by our readers! The longest-running, fan-voted awards on the internet, the winners are always very interesting in that they reveal, in surprising ways, both the divide between fans and traditional voting bodies (like the Academy) and their similarities at times. This year, we didn’t have any record-breakers in terms of the most awarded films, with Deadpool & Wolverine earning 7 nods, while The Substance earned 5, and Dune: Part Two earned 4. The all-time champ for the most wins ever for The Golden Schmoes is still The Dark Knight, with 12 wins.
Both Dune: Part Two and The Substance are Academy favourites this year, while Deadpool & Wolverine was mostly overlooked. However, one movie that’s beloved by the Academy, Emilia Perez, was seemingly hated by our voters,...

The First Omen writer Ben Jacoby is adapting the Thomas Ray novella Silencer for Paramount Pictures, Deadline reports.
The spy thriller follows a CIA field agent who is sent to bring in the ultimate CIA target who’s been out in the cold for decades.
An operative who dates back to the dark times of Mk Ultra, the target is a silencer — someone who can read minds, and wipe them from a distance, making him impossible to find or catch.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing as part of his first-look deal with Paramount alongside NeoText Corporation, who published the book last year.
Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, and Jay Schuminsky will produce for NeoText, with Greg Cohen overseeing development for di Bonaventura Pictures.
Jacoby recently co-wrote an adaptation of Alex North‘s crime thriller The Whisper Man, which Robert De Niro is set to star in for Netflix.
