The CW is now run by Nexstar, a company focused on making the smallest broadcast network profitable. The ratings matter more than ever, and the CW series must earn their keep to stay on the air. How many shows will be cancelled or renewed during the 2024-25 season? Stay tuned.
CW shows this season (so far): All American, Children Ruin Everything, The Chosen, Crime Nation, Good Cop/Bad Cop, Joan, Police 24/7, Scrabble, Sherlock & Daughter, Sullivan's Crossing, Superman & Lois, Totally Funny Animals, Totally Funny Kids, Trivial Pursuit, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Wild Cards, and The Wranglers.
There's lots of data that network execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These 2024-25 charts will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

Prime Video has set a launch date of July 13th for season 5 of the highly appreciated biblical series ‘The Chosen.’
In the fifth season, Jerusalem is a powder keg with all of Jesus’ followers, enemies, and over a million Passover pilgrims packed into one small place. He shows sides of Himself we’ve never seen till now—turning over tables, literally cracking the whip, and weeping with heartbreak but also love. He also confuses His followers at every turn…and to what end? The takeaway for you from this season: Can you believe and follow even when you don’t understand?
Fans of the biblical series have recently packed out cinemas for ‘The Chosen: Last Supper’ and made a significant impact, which in turn has prompted cinema chains to take notice and bring this larger-than-life experience to the big screen.
Also in news – “There’s been a murder…” Teaser trailer...

Welcome to Deadline’s annual list of premiere dates for new and returning TV series.
The roster covers hundreds of broadcast, cable and streaming programs debuting throughout 2025, including many still listed as Tba (to be announced). It includes series premieres and season debuts, shows returning from hiatus and some one-offs such as live sports and awards shows but not movies or specials.
Note that older premiere dates are listed at the bottom and that not all PBS outlets premiere their shows on the same day.
As always, we update this post daily as more dates are revealed, so check back often for the latest. We’re glad you tuned in. Additions or adjustments can be sent to editors@deadline.com.

Fans of The Chosen knew this moment was coming, but series star Jonathan Roumie just made things incredibly real. While addressing the media during a break at Sunday’s K-Love Fan Awards (as per Crosswalk), the actor foreshadowed what we’ve long known would be a difficult set of episodes not just for audiences to watch but for the cast and crew to create. It certainly won’t be walking in the desert with your closest companions and followers all while feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and preaching like the seasons that have come before.
Referring to Season 6 as the “most profound season of The Chosen, by far,” Roumie explained,
“It’s brutal. This is the most difficult thing I think I’ve ever done. It’s the most difficult season. It’s the most difficult role, and this being the most difficult role in the most difficult season,...

More times than not, you’ll hear plenty of qualms from those who have read a popular book or series that has been adapted for the screen. Fandoms like those behind The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones are quick to point out the glaring differences that shifted from page to production. But there’s one following that loves the retelling so much they’ve donated their own dollars to its future. That would be those addicted to Prime Video’s Biblical series, The Chosen, whom creator, director, and co-scribe, Dallas Jenkins, refers to as “co-creators.”
While chipping away at the sixth season of the uber-popular series, Jenkins chatted with the Deseret News about the overwhelming response from the fan base, which he credits with getting the title on its feet. Angel Studios might have hurt its reputation some years ago by distributing the controversial Jim Caviezel-led film Sound of Freedom, but nobody can deny that the outfit is highly skilled at targeting a very specific demographic. In the recent past, several Angel Studios titles have emerged as modest hits at the box office, but they've all received excellent audience scores on aggregator platforms. The latest to join this list is The Last Rodeo, written by and starring Neal McDonough. The movie opened on Friday alongside two heavy-hitters, Disney's Lilo & Stitchremake, and the mega-budgetMission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.
The Last Rodeoearned an excellent A CinemaScore from opening day audiences, which bodes well for its box office prospects. By comparison, the Lilo & Stitch remake also earned an A grade on the polling platform, while The Final Reckoning debuted with an A-. The newly solo Lionsgate Studios swung to a profit last quarter as motion picture revenue surged. The numbers are its first since splitting with Starz.
Net income of $21.9 million for Lionsgate’s fiscal fourth quarter ended in March compares with a $47 million loss the year earlier. Total revenue popped to $1.1 billion from $880 million. Shares are all over the map in after-market trading, rising over 4% to pass $7, then easing.
Trailing 12-month library revenue was $956 million, up 8% year-on-year and notched $340 million for the quarter on licensing sales of The Rookie to Disney+ and The Chosen to Amazon Prime.
Motion Picture segment profit surged 65% to $135.3 million — the highest in 10 years — driven by the box office success of the midbudget films Den of Thieves 2: Pantera and Flight Risk, as well as more non-theatrical content deliveries, robust library demand and lower P&a spend. When Shazam: Fury of the Gods‘ reception was not very optimal for star Zachary Levi, the star turned heads when he pleaded directly with viewers on his Instagram Live to give the film a chance. It was an unorthodox method that many saw as part of a meltdown. Since then, the former Chuck star became increasingly controversial as he was outspoken about his personal views and his recent projects, like Harold and the Purple Crayon, didn’t match the kind of success that the first Shazam had put him on the path for. In a recent profile with Variety, Levi addresses his position on politics and his place within (or outside of) Hollywood.
One of the things he was inevitably asked was his interest in returning to the Shazam franchise. While Levi opposed the critical response of the second film, the actor maintains that making both movies was an immensely joyful experience.

Filming has been underway for just around one month on Season 6 of The Chosen, and we’re finally beginning to hear from the actors who are experiencing the day-to-day production of the Dallas Jenkins-created series. With Season 5 ending just after the infamous story of The Last Supper, those familiar with the story of Jesus (played in the series by Jonathan Roumie) will know what comes next — death and heartbreak. Teasing the emotions that audiences are bound to feel when the next part of the series eventually ends up on screens next year, Reza Diako, who appears in the production as the Apostle Philip, told The Christian Post,
“If you’re the kind that enjoys intensity, then I suppose you’re very excited for what’s coming. If you can’t handle it, then I’m so sorry, but it’s still going to happen. We know where the story is going.

It’s been nearly 20 years since Mel Gibson shook the global box office with The Passion of the Christ, and now its long-awaited follow-up is officially gaining momentum — with a major studio in its corner. Lionsgate, the home of John Wick and The Hunger Games, has partnered with Gibson and Bruce Davey’s Icon Productions to produce and distribute The Resurrection of the Christ worldwide. The project has been in the works for almost a decade, with Gibson repeatedly teasing plans for the follow-up in interviews over the years. While full casting details haven’t been confirmed, the director has previously stated he hopes to bring back Jim Caviezel in the role of the other Jc himself, Jesus Christ. Production is expected to begin later this summer at European locations.

Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey, and their Icon Productions banner, have chosen Lionsgate as the studio partner on “The Resurrection of the Christ,” the follow-up to their landmark 2004 film “The Passion of the Christ.”
Until last year, “The Passion” was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time domestically. It debuted to an opening weekend of $83 million before earning $370 million in North American theaters and more than $610 million globally off a $30 million production budget.
The deal continues Gibson’s long association with Lionsgate, where he made his two most recent films: the Oscar-nominated “Hacksaw Ridge” and the thriller “Flight Risk” starring Mark Wahlberg. The studio is also the distributor for the Icon library, including “The Passion of the Christ.” “Resurrection” underscores Lionsgate’s continued strength in the faith-based space, as the studio handles distribution for “The Chosen” and has released hits including “Jesus Revolution” and “I Can Only Imagine,” with a...

For Dallas Jenkins, it’s been all about authenticity since day one. The creator, director, and co-writer of Prime Video’s hit series, The Chosen, recently addressed fans in an Instagram post, sharing why he thought the title connected with so many people around the world. At the center of it all, Jenkins believes that the popularity and the show’s ability to resonate with so many is due to the creative choices made that would portray its primary character — Jonathan Roumie’s Jesus — as he was in the Bible. This meant leaning into Jewish customs and practices that Jenkins said have gotten lost in other Jesus-centered titles. Using the word “authentic” as his north star, Jenkins explained,
“On day one of writing, six years ago when I was in my basement, we put up a word on the wall on a big white piece of paper that just said ‘Authentic’. Everything that we did,...

There has rarely been a time as promising as now for faith-based movies. After earning its first major theatrical debut, The Chosen season 5 shattered records at the box office as viewers came in droves to see the episodes on the silver screen. The Chosen: Last Supper - Part 1, which was released in approximately 2,000 theaters, earned $11.7 million in its opening weekend and proved that this franchise has theatrical potential. With season 6 currently in development, another theatrical release is seemingly inevitable.
In a live Q&a for The Chosen, franchise creator Dallas Jenkins opened up about the producers' plans for the upcoming season. While he has always been "extremely transparent" about the direction of each release, he intends to be more reserved with these coming episodes. He believes the release schedules have given viewers unrealistic expectations, hurting the show's reception. He no longer intends to share the release window until it is finalized.

Season 6 of The Chosen is aiming to hit a certain release window, which is both good and bad news for fans.
The sixth season of the global hit series, which began filming on April 14, is confirmed to portray the Crucifixion of Jesus. But while Season 6 was previously expected to release in 2027, The Chosen's director and showrunner, Dallas Jenkins, announced during a two-hour livestream that Season 6 will most likely release sometime in 2026.
Still, Jenkins warned that this release window is not guaranteed. And, if the next season does, in fact, debut in 2026, fans shouldn't expect the same timeframe as Seasons 4 and 5, which both premiered in time for the Easter holidays. Furthermore, the director teased that the Season 6 finale will be a global theatrical event that will follow the release of the season's first six episodes.

The next prestige Biblical drama is officially on the way — and this time, the matriarchs are taking the lead. Fox has handed a series order to The Faithful, a six-episode event series that will reimagine the lives of five women from the Book of Genesis. It’s set to debut around Easter and Passover and will unfold over three weeks. From executive producer Carol Mendelsohn — the powerhouse behind CSI, CSI: Miami, and CSI: NY — The Faithfulmarks a major tonal shift: from crime labs to ancient deserts. A biblical procedural would have been something to behold, but this should still be interesting. Following the success of recent Bible-based series like The Chosen and House of David, Fox is betting big on The Faithful to strike a chord with viewers.
The series will center on Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel, five Biblical women whose descendants became key figures in Christianity,...

Exclusive: Fox has handed a series order to The Faithful, a six-episode Biblical limited series from Carol Mendelsohn (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Rene Echevarria and Fox Entertainment Studios. The series, which will air over three consecutive weeks during next Easter and Passover season in spring 2026, stems from Mendelsohn’s first-look broadcast direct deal with the network.
The event series is based on The Old Testament’s Book of Genesis and told through the eyes of the courageous and passionate, yet flawed women whose descendants would shape three of the world’s great faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The Faithful is about discovering and losing love, the challenges of marriage, the joys and heartbreak of children, confronting temptation and finding faith.

Prime Video has unveiled the teaser trailer for We Were Liars, the upcoming mystery thriller based on E. Lockhart’s hauntingly addictive best-selling novel.
All eight episodes drop June 18, 2025 — and while the binge model may satisfy the impatient, we’re already mourning the weekly ride this story could have offered.
Set on a sun-drenched private island off the coast of New England, We Were Liars centers on Cadence Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind) and her privileged, picture-perfect family, the Sinclairs.
Emily Alyn Lind, Esther McGregor, Joseph Zada, Shubham Maheshwari (Jessie Redmond/Prime)
Every summer, Cadence and her close-knit group of cousins and friends — known as “the Liars” (Not to be confused with the Pretty Little version) — gather on the island, where youthful rebellion meets old-money tradition.
But beneath the shimmering surface of wealth and closeness, something sinister lingers.

While they are not always popular in the mainstream, faith-based movies have the potential to do well at the box office. Some of these titles are overtly religious, such as the 2024 Alan Ritchson drama Ordinary Angels. Other titles that get looped in the faith-based subcategory are less overtly God-infused but still resonate with Christian messaging. One such success is Sound of Freedom, a 2023 movie about a government agent who attempts to rescue children from child traffickers. Sound of Freedom made a remarkable $250.5 million at the worldwide box office.
2025 has already been strong for Christian-centric works. Episodes of the Biblical series The Chosen: Last Supper were released in theaters and performed remarkably well, given that they were also slated to hit the small screen. These episodes ended up making just shy of $25 million worldwide, makingThe Chosen the no. 30 highest-grossing title at the 2025 box office. Now, another faith-based title is succeeding at the box office,...

Considering how well Christian-themed movies have done in recent months, Mel Gibson may be relieved about the box office prospects of his planned sequel to The Passion of the Christ. The animated film The King of Kings exceeded all expectations in its box office run, which was timed around the Easter holidays. It has emerged as the highest-grossing Korean production in domestic box office history — yes, it's a Korean production — while earning over four times its reported budget at the global box office.
With $57 million domestically and over $6 million from overseas markets, The King of Kings has generated nearly $64 million worldwide so far. Produced on a reported budget of $15 million, the religious-themed film is around $1 million shy of passing the lifetime global haul of The Road to El Dorado, a big-budget DreamWorks animated film that tanked upon release in the year 2000, but has developed a cult following. The hit Christian historical drama series The Chosen gets a brand-new trailer teasing Jesus' Last Supper. A premiere date for the new season has also been announced, following its exclusive theatrical release window earlier this year.
