The information comes from reports by The Hollywood Reporter.

Boseman was a beloved actor who passed away in 2020 after privately battling colon cancer for four years. Over his career, he played many iconic figures, including James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, and Jackie Robinson.

His most famous role was T’Challa, the Black Panther, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also earned numerous award nominations for his work.

In 2016, Boseman was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer, which eventually progressed to stage IV.

Boseman was one of the most loved actors of his generation, known for bringing powerful and historic figures to the screen. He played James Brown, Thurgood Marshall, and Jackie Robinson, but he became a global icon for his role as T’Challa, the Black Panther, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Diane Warren was denied an Oscar for the 16th time Sunday, after losing in the Best Original Song category to Emilia Pérez‘s “El Mal.” Warren, who was nominated for The Six Triple Eight‘s “The Journey,” wasn’t deterred by the loss, she told Variety. “I’m consistent as fuck,” Warren said. “You know, it is what it is. I’m happy to be here.”

The Oscar winner for Best Original Song, as predicted by Gold Derby's odds, was "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez. It was written by Camille and Clément Ducol, who also composed the film's score, and the film's director, Jacques Audiard. It's the first Oscar win for all three songwriters. Unfortunately, that meant a 16th loss for Diane Warren, who was nominated for penning "The Journey" from The Six Triple Eight and to date still hasn't won a competitive Oscar.

In a major push into animation, media tech investment firm Stars Collective is partnering with Shanghai-based El Pajaro Pictures to develop, produce and distribute a fresh take on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved classic “The Little Prince.”

“The Little Prince” weaves a poetic tale of a young prince who travels from planet to planet, meeting eccentric characters that offer allegorical insights into human nature. Narrated by a stranded aviator, the story unfolds as the prince recounts his adventures and his quest to understand life’s deeper truths.

The novella has inspired several adaptations. The 1974 live-action musical, directed by Stanley Donen, captured its whimsy, while Mark Osborne’s 2015 animated feature blended CGI and stop-motion and proved there’s still magic in the property, pulling in $97 million worldwide, including $24 million from China. The original 1943 book has been translated into over 300 languages with more than 200 million copies sold globally.

Media tech investment firm Stars Collective and visual effects powerhouse Dneg are joining forces to bring immersive theater experiences to the Chinese market. The partnership aims to develop, produce and operate virtual reality and immersive theater venues across China, with plans to expand into Southeast Asia and North America.

Jussie Smollett’s conviction in an alleged hate crime hoax was overturned on Thursday by the Illinois Supreme Court.

The “Empire” actor was convicted in December 2021 of five felony counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly staging a hate crime against himself in 2019 and was sentenced to 150 days in county jail, plus 30 months of probation and $130,000 in restitution. This came after the original charges against him were dropped in March 2019, but the case was picked back up when the state conducted an independent inquiry with a special prosecutor. Critics praised Boseman's acting in 21 Bridges, despite mixed reviews of the repetitive storyline. The film received a 54% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes but an impressive 91% from audiences. 21 Bridges was Chadwick Boseman's last film before his death in August 2020, highlighting his talent.

The 2019 action thriller 21 Bridges includes a well-rounded cast of established film and television actors who help bring life into the drama. The film follows Andre Davis, an NYPD detective, as he orders the police to shut down the 21 river crossing bridges of Manhattan to find two cop killers. Along for the ride is narcotics detective Frankie Burns, who has an ulterior motive in helping Davis and a team of hundreds as they search for the cop killers.

Despite mixed reviews due to the repetitive storyline, critics praised Boseman's acting in the movie. 21 Bridges got a 54% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes but an impressive 91% from audiences.

Oscar nominee Kate Hudson (Almost Famous) is attached to star in and executive produce Mindy Kaling’s untitled comedy series set up at Netflix. Kaling is writing and executive producing the 10-episode season along with Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project) and David Stassen (History of the World).

Stassen is serving as showrunner. Additional executive producers include Howard Klein (3 Arts Entertainment), Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis.

Kate Hudson is taking the court with Mindy Kaling and Netflix.

Hudson is set to star in a comedy series inspired by Los Angeles Lakers president Jeanie Buss (who’s also an executive producer on the project) and the family business that is the NBA franchise. Netflix gave the project a straight to series order in June 2021 — more than 2 1/2 years ago.

Hudson will play Isla Gordon, the only sister in a family of competitive brothers. Isla has been underappreciated her whole life, but when a scandal forces her brother to resign as president of the Los Angeles Waves pro basketball team, she’s appointed president and gets the chance to prove she deserves to be part of the family business.

Kate Hudson is set to star in Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Netflix comedy series set in the front office of a professional basketball team, Variety has learned.

The untitled series was ordered straight-to-series at Netflix in June 2021. The streamer has given the series a 10 episode order.

The official logline states, “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Hudson) is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”

Hudson is best known for her film work, though she has been in multiple television shows during her career. Most recently, she starred in the second season of the Apple TV+ drama series “Truth Be Told.

When Chadwick Boseman passed away in 2020 at just the age of 43, fans were understandably heartbroken and shocked. Sterling K. Brown and Talia Ryder will be honored with acting awards at the 46th Denver Film Festival this weekend.

Brown will receive the Excellence in Acting Award for his performance in Cord Jefferson’s satirical drama “American Fiction,” which opened the festival on Nov. 3. A second screening has been added for Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. Mst, where Brown — a three-time Emmy winner, who also starred in IFC’s “Biosphere” earlier this year — will participate in a conversation with writer, producer and podcast host Larry Wilmore.

Ryder will be on hand on Nov. 12 during the Denver Film Festival awards ceremony to accept the Rising Star Award for her role in Sean Prince Williams’ drama “The Sweet East,” which is a part of the festival’s official selection. Shannon Wilcox, a prolific actress who appeared in Dallas, several Garry Marshall films and dozens of other movies and TV shows, has died. She was 80.

A post today on Legacy.com said she died September 2 in Los Angeles.

Wilcox racked up more than 75 credits during her 45-year screen career. Her TV guest roles range from Hawaii Five-o, Cagney & Lacey, Magnum, P.I. and L.A. Law to NCIS, The Neighborhood and Grey’s Anatomy. Her many films include Marshall’s Frankie and Johnny, Exit to Eden, Dear God, The Other Sister, Raising Helen and The Princess Diaries and its sequel. Other films include Runaway Bride, Seven, For the Boys, Legal Eagles and playing the mother of Elisabeth Shue’s character in The Karate Kid.

Portal A has revealed nine projects it is developing as part of its $500,000 investment in experimental content. The digital-savvy production company is backing an eclectic mix of digital programs through the Moonshots program it introduced this past February.

Several of the projects in the Portal A slate will utilize emerging technologies like AI and short-form video. Nightmare Fuel, for example, is a TikTok series that will combine horror stories with AI-generated audio and visuals.

By embracing experimentation, Portal A’s Moonshots unit is taking the company “back to its innovative roots,” according to Portal A Director of Original Projects Jacob Motz. As the leader of the Moonshots program, Motz is looking to recapture the core values of a company that once produced global video game contests, upside-down cooking tutorials and shot-for-shot remakes of Abba music videos. Prime Video has announced that Christmas movie “Candy Cane Lane,” starring Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross, will be released exclusively on the streaming platform on Dec. 1.

Directed by Reginald Hudlin, “Candy Cane Lane” follows Murphy as Chris, a man who is determined to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. Three years after Chadwick Boseman's untimely death, Lupita Nyong'o paid tribute to her Black Panther co-star.

Nyong'o, who played the spy Nakia opposite Boseman as King T'Challa, shared a photo on Instagram of the late actor from 2018. "Three years ago today, I experienced a singular pain at the news of Chadwick Boseman's death. The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again," she wrote. "Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept. But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence. Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts."

The “12 Years a Slave” Oscar winner shared on her Instagram a personal black and white image of Boseman at an airport in South Korea from 2018, reflecting that she felt “a singular pain” at the news of his death three years ago and remembering that “the confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again.”

As such, the child makes a birthday wish, longing that his dad cannot lie for just one day. The wish comes true. 

What follows is a comedic showcase for star Jim Carrey to put his talents for physical comedy on display. The actor hilariously mugs and thrashes about in agony as Fletcher's newfound truthfulness gets him in various amounts of trouble. In one case, he cannot lie to exonerate a dishonest client. In another, he says openly lascivious things to a woman on the elevator. He gets slapped in the face and even arrested for his comments.

New York is poised to dramatically increase its film tax incentive from $420 million a year to $700 million, as it looks to stave off competition from New Jersey and Georgia.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced an agreement Thursday night on a $229 billion budget, after weeks of negotiations with state lawmakers.

Among many other provisions, the budget will increase the size of the film tax credit program, as well as raise the credit percentage from 25% to 30%, bringing it in line with rival states. The program will also be extended to 2034, according to a source familiar with the conceptual agreement.

The agreement with lawmakers will allow productions to receive a tax credit on above-the-line costs — salaries for actors, directors, writers and producers. The state previously offered credit only for below-the-line costs. The above-the-line costs will be capped, though it is not yet certain at what level.
