Excellent Performance by the Whole Cast

Letting Dev play the role of a dumb is an excellent decision by Srijit Mukherji. Otherwise he could have ruined the entire movie with his power of delivering the dialogues. Anyway, excellent performance by the whole cast.

Shakespearean potboiler of the underworld.

Zulfiquar is great expectations belied. Srijit's attempt to adapt two of Shakespeare's tragedies to the underworld of the Kolkata docks does not really come off.Yes, the characters are modeled on characters of the Bard's plays,....that's about all.Splitting up Mark Antony's character into two...Dev & Parambrata was a disastrous move . The tragedy is missing ...you feel no sympathy for any of the characters...the action scenes are mostly contrived and dragged out. Srijit mentioned before the release of this film that it was a tribute to The GodFather. What a poor tribute!! Compare Vishal Bharadwaj's adaptations of Shakespeare's tragedies...Maqbool, Onkara, and Haider and you can see the difference.

The story had promise, but at the end, it was rather dull

A modern underworld adaptation of Shakespeare's two of the best, the plot was ready to offer a biggie. The movie started pretty energetically, there was a vibrant cinematic feel to it and the underworld was put forward in a fearful yet attractive kind of way. But, as the movie progressed, it started getting very dull and boring and it looked out of place. A few of the characters could have been played much more impressively by the cast and therefore its fair to say, it was disappointing. The movie has many layers to it and its a good thing, but the balance is important for it to work and I feel Srijit Mukherjee got it wrong there. It meant to create the same reaction as it did for 'Rajkahini' but it ended up being an average movie with too many stars to handle. A so-so for me.

A Classic Adaption of Classics

First of all I want to salute Srijit Mukherji for being the only person in tollywood who is making movie having different layers which would please the audience of different ages. After Baishe Srabon, I liked this movie a lot. It has everything in it starting from action, good story line, sentiment tinkling dialogues to super fabulous screenplay. Besides the acting of each and every actors are in the next level. This movie, I would say, is a perfect merge of art and commercial film. In a word I would urge everyone out there, who hungry for a mature and good movie GO OUT FOR ZULFIQAR !! I think you would be liking in fact loving every bit of it.

Mukherji's vision didn't play out like he intended

This is perhaps Mukherji's most commercially ambitious endeavor as well as one of his most convoluted works as of yet! Script-wise, this is a modern retelling of two Shakespearean plays (Julius Caesar, Antony & Cleopatra) Now I have no expertise in Shakespeare's plays and how they play out in the original version or how loyal this adaptation has been, All I can tell you is that the movie itself doesn't work, even with great ambitions at heart, 'Srijit Da' failed to create a lasting impression.

The conversations are badly written, and those same sets of dialogues have been enacted in the worst way one could think of. While it had a promising cast, with almost all the A-Listers of the Bengali film fraternity, their performances, however, still turned out to be horrendous, and incongruous, so much so that the enactments come off as superficial; instead of luring us in, they just pull us out of immersion.

Seamless Flow of Story.

Moving the story of numerous events , characters and plots to play wonderfull flow of story and great showcase of a screen play. Srijit Mukherjee has exibited tremendous directoriral work in managing the works of great screen presence actors under story flow line. A must watch.

The Subtle and entry and exit of characters with the story flow is just an pleasure to see. The sets and the location need to be a bit more realistic to which it has to be presented. The story line and the casting is a pleasure to watch. Understanding the story frame the sequenceing an indept background work has beeen done to justify each character.
