Batman is one of the most popular heroes ever created, which has led him to be the star of multiple live-action movies, animated series, comic book issues, and, of course, video games. At this point, it's no secret that the Batman: Arkham Saga is regarded as one of the greatest superhero video game trilogies ever created. The world Rocksteady crafted was so beloved by fans worldwide that it even inspired a number of spin-offs, including Batman: Arkham Origins and a VR adventure courtesy of Arkham Shadow.

DC Comics’ Absolute Universe has the opportunity to be the best alternate reality in comic book history. That says a lot considering we've gotten the Age of Apocalypse, Superman: Red Son, Injustice, and more. And, while this is a bold claim, it's true.

Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta of Absolute Batman are making Gotham scarier. Writer Jason Aaron has given Superman fans an interesting and extreme take on the Man of Steel. In Absolute Martian Manhunter, Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez are creating a story so dark it's only seen in tragic HBO documentaries. And then there’s Kelly Thompson, who could be writing the best series in that realm, Absolute Wonder Woman. And, according to a post by artist Hayden Sherman, Thompson will be adding to that legacy when Diana of the Wild Isle meets the Bat of Gotham City.

If you are into some chaotic superhero showdowns and absolutely love the character catalog of the Marvel universe, then Marvel Rivals might just be the perfect game for you, my friend. From an ever-expanding roster of heroes and villains to team-up abilities, this game is everything that a Marvel fan could ever ask for.

Now I know you have your own plethora of favorite characters in Marvel Rivals, but I have been waiting for Blade’s arrival since rumors about him were floating around the internet. Now that he is officially coming to Marvel Rivals, I have decided to list ten fan-favorite Blade outfits that I need to see in the game. Let’s just jump right into it.

The outfit from the original 1998 movie, Blade, has to be by far one of the best costumes that I have seen the anti-hero in.

An iconic DC Comics series has become a bestseller and even its biggest fans will be surprised why. Over the years, the publisher has had several classic stories reach the top of the charts. But over a decade after one series' release, it's climbed back to the top for a reason that's shocked one of its creators.

DC Comics isn't just about the comics. Apart from the movies, series, figurines, and other merch, there have also been many video games based on the world of DC. Some of the titles have been largely shaped by the films or television series of the time, but there's also more than a few that were originally made just as games then spun out into other media. Look at how the director from "Blue Beetle" took direct inspiration from the "Injustice" video games for the character design.

Now, it would be all too easy to write a list featuring only the "Batman: Arkham" games -- because they were that good, weren't they? -- but there's no fun and fairness in that. So, what we have done is to take our personal preference as gamers and blend that with Metacritic scores to find the best of the best when it comes to DC video games.

James Gunn's Superman movie has hit theaters, and the movie has received plenty of positive reviews and word-of-mouth, in large part thanks to Gunn's script and Corenswet's performance. The film provides audiences with an earnest and joyous interpretation of the iconic superhero, who has long been portrayed through a much more cynical lens in past projects such as Snyder's Dceu and the Injustice comics and video games. Now, Gunn has provided some interesting new commentary on the character, addressing one of the biggest points of discussion surrounding Superman's willingness (or lack thereof) to take a life.

Superman is one of the most argued-about characters in comic book fiction. From “Umm actually, in Injustice…” to “Goku would go Super Saiyan and then…” and also “He is bland. He has too many powers!” which leads to the biggest misconception: “Superman is boring.”

Wrong. That is the simplest way to put it.

To go further, we need to understand why we are getting a new take on Superman this summer with James Gunn's upcoming movie.

It's time to remember who Superman really is

We have had the darker take of Superman's story on the big screen with Man of Steel by Zack Snyder, where Superman snaps Zod's neck to save civilians. Many discussions have happened since then about this take and the DC Extended Universe. The Dceu is no longer around, having suffered numerous box-office failures.

Anticipation of James Gunn'sSupermancontinues to brew ahead of its summer release, and DC Universe fans are eager to see the upcoming iteration. Among its star-studded cast, which includes David Corenswet as the titular character, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, is Edi Gathegi, who will make history as the first actor to portray Michael Holt, Aka Mister Terrific, in a live-action cinematic feature. For years, NetherRealm Studios operated like clockwork, reliably alternating between their brutal Mortal Kombat tournaments and the super-powered clashes of Injustice.

However, they broke that trend with Mortal Kombat 1 immediately following Mortal Kombat 11, breaking the expected Mk/Injustice cycle.

Now, it seems the winds are shifting once more. Support for Mortal Kombat 1 appears to be slowing, with the recent launch of a "Definitive Edition" often signaling the winding down of active development before a studio pivots to its next major endeavor. NetherRealm themselves have hinted as much on social media.

It’s starting to look like Marvel’s content overload problem isn’t just limited to the big screen. Much like the oversaturation that’s left the MCU feeling more bloated than epic, Marvel Rivals is suffering from the same self-inflicted wound: churning out content without fixing what’s broken.

The live-service hero shooter has seen its player count tumble to record lows, and fans aren’t leaving because they want fewer heroes; they’re leaving because the game’s falling apart. Meanwhile, DC, despite all its cinematic stumbles, continues to take a smarter, steadier approach in gaming.

Let’s get one thing straight: Marvel Rivals is in rough shape. According to the latest stats (via SteamDB), the player count has plummeted to record lows, currently with a 24-hour peak of only 139K, and it’s not hard to see why.

Netherrealm Studios' next game may have just been leaked by a pretty reliable dataminer, and it's not Mortal Kombat. After these recent leaks, it's looking like another installment in the DC Comics fighting game series, Injustice, may not be far away. A major positive of the original Batman Ninja film is its unique cast. Warner Bros. Japan infuses Batman's rogues with a feudal style in a twisted alternate reality. Thankfully, Batman and his clan successfully break the Quake Engine and restore that version of Japan to the real world to end the story on a satisfying note.

Or so fans thought. Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League picks up with the heroes returning to reality and realizing all isn't well. They have to head back to a new version of Japan, (i.e. Hinomoto), to fight a sinister Injustice League. In the process, this sequel charts out an action-packed sequence that subverts DC Comic characters, both visually and in terms of their personality.

The first video games based on James Gunn's and Peter Safran's DC Universe are still years away from being revealed, but the co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios have revealed they are actively working with the various WB Games teams.

Speaking at a DC Studios presentation, the duo explained that they are working closely with the WB Games division, assisting studios like Mortal Kombat creator NetherRealm and Batman: Arkham developer Rocksteady on character design and story.

“We work incredibly closely with Jb Perrette [CEO and President, Global Streaming and Games], who runs that division, and it's really the first time it's ever been this way at Warner Brothers,” Safran explained. “James and I sit with literally the guys that run the studios underneath Jb, whether it's NetherRealm or whether it's Rocksteady, sit with them and talk about characters and stories that we're interested in and that they're interested in.”

After 2011's box office disaster Green Lantern, it seemed like Warner Bros. and DC Comics tried to downplay the various characters' importance, including omitting them from the Justice League roster in the Dceu. The 2020s look very Green Lantern-centric as Nathan Fillion will play Guy Gardner in Superman, with Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler set to play John Stewart and Hal Jordan incarnations of the Green Lantern in the Max series Lanterns. Now an animated version of the Green Lantern Jessica Cruz is on the way, but it will be connected to another popular Superman project outside of the Dcu.

Marvel Rivals has proven that hero shooters aren’t quite dead yet. But the biggest reason for its success isn’t its gameplay but rather the excellent execution of the Marvel IP. So is DC going to compete with this? DC Studios’ CEO James Gunn is certainly considering the possibility of a similar project from DC.

It might also be the perfect time for DC to start cooking something up because NetEase recently laid off a portion of its Seattle-based team and it’d be pretty cool if DC picked them up. One of the interesting and relatively unknown characters set to make his big screen debut in James Gunn's Superman is "Mister Terrific." He first graced DC's pages in 1997's Spectre #54 (written by John Ostrander and illustrated by Tom Mandrake). On-screen, he will be played by Edi Gathegi and is supposed to be "the main character of those [other] characters [in the movie]."

Previously, he appeared live on the CW's Arrow (Echo Kellum) and had a few stints in animated projects, one was voiced by the Cosby-outing comedian Hannibal Burress. 

For Black History Month, it's important to celebrate Bipoc heroes and villains because the writers and artists didn't hold back when it came to creating diversity among the legion of characters. They have been given amazing powers--some cosmic, others mutant, and a few elite humans. Mister Terrific is the third smartest character in all DC lore, next to Lex Luthor and the Atom, Ray Palmer.

All-Star Superman writer Grant Morrison couldn’t understand Superman’s evil turn after Lois Lane’s death in Injustice. The comic storyline that ran from 2013 to 2016 saw Superman and Batman at odds after the former descended into complete villainy. After Joker’s evil plot ends in the death of a pregnant Lois Lane, the Man of Steel forms the totalitarian One Earth Regime to end all violence.

Batman doesn’t believe in Superman’s new League and builds an insurgency to fight back against the Regime. What follows is a violent conflict within the Justice League that has some costly outcomes, including the death of Green Arrow. Warning: Spoilers for Batman and Robin #17Dc is dangerously close to repeating the same mistake it has made dozens of times before with Batman and Robin, and I am begging for it to stop. The dynamic duo are one of the most iconic elements of the DC Universe, but as of late, it feels like the characters are falling into old habits. I’m worried that the company will rehash an old storyline after the characters have just moved past it without making the choice feel justified.

Batman and Robin #17 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Javier Fernández, and Carmine Di Giandomenico features a moment where Bruce and Damian have an argument over the idea of Batman, with Damian even questioning if the vigilante life is worth it.

DC animated movies are not afraid to go dark. R-rated movies have been performing well and are appreciated by mature audiences around the world. Joker and Deadpool are perfect examples that set the precedent for more superhero-related projects to follow. It's always interesting to see fan-favorite characters going a step further than fans are used to seeing.

DC hasn't shied away from being gory and brutal in the animated universe. They never hold back with their R-rated movies, which care very little about being family-friendly, showing endless brutal kills from DC's heroes and villains alike. Superman goes on a brutal killing rampage in Injustice, while Batman faces the knife-wielding Jack the Ripper in Batman: Gotham by Gaslight.

David Corenswet's Dcu Superman stars in a sweet homage to the Man of Steel's earliest cartoons and James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. Gunn's Superman takes inspiration from storylines such as Kingdom Come and All-Star Superman, as well as the Man of Steel's earliest comic book appearances. The Dcu's version of Superman seems to be aiming for a timeless portrayal of the character, with a somewhat retrofuturistic Metropolis informing his superhero career.

Illustrator and DC fan Dylan Odom shares a fan-made Superman animation on Instagram, starring David Corenswet's Superman as a 1940s cartoon version of the DC hero inspired by the famous 1940s Fleischer Superman animated shorts. The video shows Corenswet's Superman saving the little girl from the trailer, fighting the movie's mystery masked villain, and jumping from the Daily Planet's decorative globe. Welcome one and all to the third, and possibly final, part of my theories regarding the potential for an Injustice 3 game!

For those who missed the previous two, I'll briefly explain what each one was about. The first part dealt with what the story of Injustice 3 could be about based on the good ending from Injustice 2, while the second part was my theories as to which group of heroes would make the best playable characters for an Injustice 3. Now, onto the part that excites me the most; who should be the main villain(s) of Injustice 3? In no particular order, read on to find out!

There are many things that DC Comics fans are longing for, but a third Injustice video game is definitely on that list. It's something we've been discussing since completing Injustice 2 and, with that having come out in 2017, it's been some time indeed.

With that in mind, let's do some more theorizing, this time about which characters could appear in Injustice 3 if it happens. To be honest, there are so many DC characters that haven't been used in the Injustice games that it would be impossible to list them all, so let's look at some of the ones that I want to see the most and the ones that fans have been clamoring over for years. 

Magical characters

Let's begin by talking about the magical characters of the DC Universe, because most of them haven't received much attention in these games. While characters like Swamp Thing and Shazam were playable characters in the previous games,...

The Injustice franchise of video games and tie-in comics have received mixed reviews from fans and critics, specifically when it comes to the brutality of that version of Superman and his fall from grace as he evolved from hero to an evil tyrant. Despite many of these views, the Injustice universe has intrigued fans for over a decade at this point, and the last game, Injustice 2, came out all the way back in 2017, with no concrete news as to the fate of a Injustice 3 down the line.

However, it's always fun to just let the imagination run wild and theorize what a potential Injustice 3 storyline could look like. So, come with me through a world where some of our greatest heroes have become mankind's greatest enemies.

After starring as Green Arrow in Smallville, Justin Hartley went on to play Superman himself in DC's animated film Injustice. The movie will be streaming on Max starting Jan. 1.

Hartley takes on the lead role of the evil Clark Kent / Superman in Injustice, with Anson Mount starring opposite him as the voice of Batman. The animated movie is based on the prequel comic series of the NetherRealm Studios video game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and is set in an alternate timeline from the main DC Universe. In the Injustice continuity, Superman descends into madness after The Joker tricks him into killing a pregnant Lois Lane and detonating a nuclear bomb that destroys all of Metropolis. Superman goes on to turn Earth into a police force, bent on enforcing "global peace", prompting Batman and other DC heroes to form an underground resistance.

Throughout the history of the DC Universe, there have been many villain introductions that are considered particularly impressive. As the heroes and villains of DC comics rank among some of the most iconic figures in pop culture, there have been many movies and TV shows adapting them to the screen. The movies of the Dceu alone brought numerous villains to life in live-action, with many more having been adapted in unrelated TV shows and movies as well.

With some many excellent antagonists appearing, its only fitting that they receive appropriately impressive entrances. For example, the characters of the Arrowverse faced off against many fascinating adversaries, with especially memorable scenes introducing the DC villains to audiences. The CW's version of Lex Luthor in Superman & Lois is played by The Walking Dead's Michael Cudlitz. Speaking to ScreenRant ahead of the final season premiere, the actor recalled getting cast for the role, which he calls the "opportunity of a lifetime." Developed by Boon's studio NetherRealm, the Mortal Kombat creator has ventured beyond his brutal fantasy universe in the last decade-plus, using his team's fighting game prowess to take a stab at the world of DC Comics.
