Little is known of Yunus Emre's life (c. 1238-1320); therefore, his life story is romanticized. However, the production is very interesting with respect to the way a Turkish Sufi master (shaykh) imparts knowledge about the Truth upon his disciples (dervishes or murids). The contents of Taptuk Emre's "sohbets" (discussions or stories) to his dervishes is quite authentic and based on Sufi tradition. It is elevating for it teaches one how to surmount the traps of one's ego and those of the world. The only criticism with respect to the series is the very poor subtitles job, which seems to have been borrowed from some translation software. One really needs to be very intuitive to understand what is being said. It is quite regrettable for it is a series that has a lot to teach about esoteric Islam and, more generally, about being human. Finally, the actors are all excellent.

Absolutely brilliant series, the acting top tier, the cinematography is beautiful, I feel transported to a different time and place. I am fascinated by the teachings of the Sheikh and the humanized struggles of the protagonists as we see Yunus struggling with his unchecked ego. Many scenes/teachings leave me teary eyed (I never cry!)

The only criticism I have concerns the subtitles, they are not good enough for a masterpiece such as this. I would implore Netflix to PLEASE re subtitle this series for the world audience. Although I can follow along, I feel that I am missing out on like 25-50% of the beauty of the old Turkish language with respect to the spiritual lessons being taught by the character of the Sheikh.

This show is a must watch. The spiritual part of Islam is very well depicted. The relationship between a teacher and disciple and so many aspects have been shown. It's highly recommended...

I never watched a turkish movie, I discovered it in Netflix, first I was interrested because it is about Islam and I wanted to discover the suffi tradition, I have little knowledge about the concept, I hesitated in the beginign because it is in Turkish and the subtitles are too fast also it makes one miss some secens when looking at the translation rather than the movie, this is the only aspect that is bothering me but I love so much the story that I can't stop wathcing it. I learn a lot especially from the lessons that are given by the sheikh after evening prayers, it makes me more spiritual and more understanding the concept of Islam with a philosophal approach. I Love it!!! it would have been very helpful if it was translated in arabic. The actors and actresses are amaizing!!, Yunus is acted with a high talent and I also like the acting of the Sheikh and Kasim all were amaizing. its a great job from all people behind the scenes. I just red that the actor who plays the role of sheikh has died and felt sad, Allah yarhamoh I hope this serie has elevated his good deeds inshallah because it had a positive impact on me personnaly. I am so in love with this series. Yes, the English subtitles are not good, but I still understand. It does help to know a little Arabic, the Names of Allah in Arabic, and a little Turkish. It truly shows the Sufi Path, the fight against the nafs (ego) and the getting out of the way, to be a habitat for love. It is so beautifully portrayed.

I can't recommend this series enough to anyone interested in spiritual / gnostic journeys.

Very well acted - you get transported to another time. Was great to see the teaching stories of Sufi literature being acted out - was easier to understand and relate to rather then just reading.

For some this series may be too slow paced - but I did not mind - in fact that was a positive for me - as it relaxed me and transported me too a simpler, rustic time.

Also agree with other comments - the subtitles are poor - could have been way better - but that did not stop me enjoying such a beneficial series.

I'm a sufi and this series is so good that it's unbelievable.

It's very realistic and it's touches your soul.

Commented by Demet Samanci: This great Turkish TV series was originated from the book named "Hear What The Loved Ones Say" written by Assoc. Prof. Dr. of Gazi University Mustafa TATCI who also was the supervisor of the film crew. Mustafa TATCI is an academic author, researcher and leading expert on Yunus Emre subject through his 25-year work background. By the fact that academic studies are not widely acclaimed, he has many works in lay terms offering reader to understand Yunus better. Entitled book "Hear What The Loved Ones Say" published by H Publications, is the source of this great TV series which contains more than 39 Yunus Emre poems with critical edition. This book is also a kind of guide book of an inner journey for the seekers/pretenders.

Well produced, but frustratingly for English language viewers the translation is simply atrocious. Looks like someone who doesn't really understand either languages just cut-and-paste the whole script into Google translator and leave it as such.

NETFLIX doesn't even bother to ensure proper English subtitling before they paid good money for it. Simply unprofessional and careless.

There is just too much requisite guess work with chunks of poetic and philosophical dialogue lost.

Where can I watch Yunus Emre. I have a netflix account but unfortunately the series is not showing on my account. can anyone advice.

This is one of the best shows I have ever watched. It takes you 700 years in time. Once you start watching, you can't stop. The quality of translation from Turkish to English does not do full justice to the story. Production quality is very high with remarkable acting by the lead character Younus Emre. One does not get to see such high quality shows very often.

Yunus Emre is the master of meaning and a pure representation of what Sufism is and what Islam actually stands for. The series has some excellent acting performances. Altough some of the plot is partly fiction, the series allows one to get the gist of Yunus Emre's finding the truth. It is a long journey for him full of hardships. A must watch for those interested in the story of his excellent poetry. Just like everyone, the only thing that bothers me is the worst of worst subtitling. I hope Netflix finds a solution for it soon.

I have never been hooked up by any serial and the day I started watching it by just mere chance,it transformed me as if started living within the lodge. The acting of almost all are far from real and actually they have lived the characters. I visited shrine of tapduk emre and yunus emre as could not resist myself. I live in England but the trip was magical . I just came to know that character lived by the actor of sheikh tapduk emre have passed away.May Allah bestow his soul peace which he has spread in this epic and legend story of love and truth.I am sure he has transformed into reality and achieved it that way.

The sufi culture the golden culture indeed is depicted in the drama which attracts me towards it what a thriller i would like to recommend it to everyone on this planet if someone seeks divine peace and inner satisfaction. Watch this!

It was so important to get the essence of this series. Understanding the unity, the life as a road, where is always ego hiding, how everything is connected, many more other important lessons for those who understands... Feeling lucky to have watched this, and have been thinking about it. And still watching it over and over again whenever my soul needs a blessing...

I watched the first episode and it was so boring that I wanted to die. My fiancé made me watch it. The only good thing to come from this is that I can now tell my fiancé that they aren't allowed to pick shows to watch anymore because they have bad choices. They were embarrassed by how horrible this show was. It's slow. It's pretentious. Is dialogue is fluff garbage. Do. Not. Watch.

I just finished the first viewing and expect to catch many more goodies in a second watching, or should I say, absorption!? This series is totally riveting and yes does suffer from poor translation!

I would love to also read what Prof Mustafa Titci has to say while watching the series a second time!!
