Nearly 10 years ago, Alan Tudyk took what seemed to be a one-and-done trip to George Lucas' far, far away galaxy in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. That Gareth Edwards-directed movie memorably ended with its entire squad of Rebels perishing after successfully stealing the plans for the Death Star — a mission that made Luke Skywalker's epic New Hope trench run possible. Tudyk's refurbished Imperial droid, K-2So, was among the body count and he used his final moments to bid farewell to his comrades-in-arms. "Goodbye," he bravely said as he succumbed to a barrage of Stormtrooper laser blasts.
Flash-forward a decade and K-2So is saying "hello" to viewers once more.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Alan Tudyk revealed that he almost turned down starring in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story because of scheduling conflicts. When the director of the film, Gareth Edwards, approached him for the role of K-2So, Tudyk was already working on a series called Con Man. Due to this, the actor had to tell Edwards that he would have to turn the film down if it were to begin filming in June. Making this call certainly wasn’t an easy one, since even being offered the role was surreal for the actor.
[Gareth] offered it to me in the room – it didn’t seem real…I said, ‘I would love to say yes, but it is contingent on one thing. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but if you’re shooting in June, I have to say no – because that’s when we were shooting Con Man,...

On tonight’s episode, Root officially joins the offbeat universe as the elder alien sent by the council to judge whether Harry deserves to receive his essence, and humanity may never be the same.
(TV Fanatic)
“I was thrilled to be called by [Alan Tudyk] to come in and play dad,” Root shared. “And I said, alien dad? And he said, yes. And I said, I’m in.”
Root and Tudyk go way back, having worked together on multiple projects, including the movie Dodgeball, Tudyk’s Con Man series, and voiceover work on animated shows.

It's always a joy when members of the Firefly cast come back together for other projects, and Alan Tudyk has recently revealed that he and his former co-stars from the sci-fi cult classic have been getting ready for an exciting reunion. While the Firefly cast isn't getting back together to make more episodes of the beloved show, Firefly will likely be heavily involved.
Speaking at his Sunday panel during Denver Fan Expo, which Screen Rant's Dani Kessel Odom attended, Tudyk shared information about a new podcast he's been making with Nathan Fillion called Once, We Were Spacemen. While it's unclear exactly what the podcast will be about, Tudyk did confirm that it won't just be Firefly actors who will appear as guests.
Despite lasting just one season, Firefly is still considered to be one of the most influential sci-fi shows ever, and it played a key role in Alan Tudyk's career.

While fan dreams of aFirefly reboot might never come to reality, occasional cast reunions on newer projects offer a welcome tribute to the show's legacy. The beloved science fiction series brought us a fun dynamic between Alan Tudyk's wisecracking pilot Wash and Nathan Fillion’s fearless captain Mal aboard the Serenity. Since their time in the 'verse, the pair have teamed up now and then on several projects, including Fillion's current ABC gig, The Rookie, as well as Tudyk's fan-favorite science fiction comedy, Resident Alien, which recently premiered its fourth season. If you've been wondering if Tudyk will ever return for another stint beside Fillion on the former, the actor has got an answer for you.
Tudyk's first appearance on The Rookie came in Season 2, Episode 8, "Clean Cut", as Ellroy Basso. The episode plays out on John Nolan's (Fillion) birthday, which starts out with him off duty. However,...

Nathan Fillion’s former Firefly co-star, Alan Tudyk, has opened up about his potential return to The Rookie. First joining Fillion as Hoban "Wash" Washburne, the pilot of the spaceship Serenity, Tudyk would regularly reunite with his co-star for several projects following Firefly’s cancellation. In 2019, Tudyk appeared as the socially inept crime scene cleaner Ellroy Basso in The Rookie season 1, a role that he would later reprise for 2022’s climactic season 4 finale, which saw Basso pulled into a dramatic shootout at the hybrid rural police station and diner at the border town of Frontera.
Speaking with Screen Rant at the black carpet event for Resident Alien season 4, Tudyk revealed whether he might be likely to return as Ellroy for a future appearance alongside Fillion's Nolan in The Rookie. Did you know Alan Tudyk created a character that was based on himself for the web? In the show, the lead character is actor Wray Nerely, who starred as a spaceship pilot on Spectrum, a canceled sci-fi series that went on to become a cult hit. Seems familiar? Tudyk based the 2015 series, Con Man, on his experiences on the abruptly canceled Firefly series.
He managed to get Nathan Fillion on board for the show that ran for two seasons and 25 episodes. Fillion also served as a producer on the show. It appeared that Tudyk used all his connections in the industry, bringing in Sean Astin, Nolan North, Tricia Helfer, Leslie Jordan, and Firefly co-star Sean Maher.

James Gunn has kicked off his future vision in the Dcu in the best way possible, combining his knack for bringing oddball characters to the screen while relying on Warner Brothers' esteemed legacy of animated works to bring fans Creature Commandos. The show has already hit the ground running, with the first two episodes out on Max seeing a 93% Fresh score from critics and 79% on the Popcornmeter. While the series will be released gradually, fans already love the new team of 'heroes' based on Dcu's more eccentric characters. The cast is also already gunning for a second season of Creature Commandos.
One element that makes the new series so great is the voice-acting, with the characters perfectly cast in their respective roles. However, some cast members have already had ample experience with the Dcu.

Resident Alien season 4 is set to give its leading man even more responsibility as he steps into a specific role for the first time in a long while. A total of 36 individuals earned their first Primetime Emmy acting nominations in 2024, including “Feud” stars Naomi Watts and Tom Hollander and recent Oscar also-rans Lily Gladstone (“Under the Bridge”) and Ryan Gosling (“Saturday Night Live”). A standout among these newbies is Paul Rudd, who is the only one in the group with shots at two performance wins: Best Comedy Supporting Actor (“Only Murders in the Building”) and Best Narrator (“Secrets of the Octopus”).

After playing Number Six in Battlestar Galactica, Tricia Helfer took on quite a few more acting roles. One of her most notable post-Battlestar roles was playing Charlotte in Lucifer. Helfer will also be appearing in upcoming projects including Hello Beautiful.
Tricia Helfer continued her acting career long after the end of her iconic role in Battlestar Galactica. Before joining the 2005 reboot of the legendary 1978 science fiction series, she began her career as a fashion model in the early 1990s, winning the Ford Models' Supermodel of the World contest in 1992. It lasted only one season, but fans still mourn the demise of the sci-fi/western Firefly. As much as we love watching (and rewatching) the series, sometimes it's not enough.
Are you longing for a little more Captain Tight Pants? Want to see Zoe quietly kick some adversary's butt? Wishing you could revisit the Hero of Canton?
Well, we can't bring back Firefly -- oh, how we wish we could! -- but we can tell you where you can tune in to see the cast now.

Science fiction fans remember the last four months of 2002 as a blessed but bedeviled time. "Firefly" became a 14-episode phenomenon, dead in the water before the season ended, but eternal in the hearts of its viewers. Their passion managed the impossible, reviving the show for a big-screen send-off in "Serenity" and several canonical comic book miniseries. To this day, crafters knit their own loving reconstructions of Jayne's remarkably orange hat. Before “This Is Us,” Milo Ventimiglia’s major roles felt of one voice. There’s Jess Mariano, the troubled young rebel on “Gilmore Girls”; Peter Petrelli, a tortured nurse struggling to control his powers in “Heroes”; Robert Balboa, Rocky’s son who’s stuck in his father’s shadow, even when he doesn’t know who he is without it. Ventimiglia’s specialty was playing the bewildered bad boy with a good heart, and whether it was a woman (like Rory), a calling (like Hiro’s), or a father (like Rocky), he just needed one thing to go right for the rest of his life to fall into place. In other words, he was the guy someone looked at and thought, “I can fix him” — and they were usually right.
Then “This Is Us” came along. Jack Pearson wasn’t some kid trying to put the pieces together; he was...

When Oscar nominee James Caan died Wednesday in Los Angeles at 82, he left behind one final performance opposite Pierce Brosnan in the hitman thriller Fast Charlie, for which he’d wrapped production in New Orleans.
The film from director Phillip Noyce is based on Victor Gischler’s Edgar Award-nominated novel Gun Monkeys. It centers on Charlie Swift (Brosnan), who has worked for aging mob boss Stan (Caan) for 20 years, skillfully operating as a prolific fixer and efficient hitman. When a rival boss moves to eliminate Stan and his entire team, he fails in wiping the team clean. Now on his own, Charlie will stop at nothing to avenge his friend, and has no plans to leave anyone alive.

Maya Rudolph has two nominations for Best Comedy Guest Actress this year, making her the first actor in Emmy history to be nominated twice in the same guest category in a single year. This is her third consecutive nomination for her recurring role as Judge Gen on “The Good Place,” which contends now for its final season. This is her second nomination for “Saturday Night Live”; she is up for her impression of Senator Kamala Harris, having been recognized previously for a 2012 hosting gig.
SEEour rundown on this year’s Emmy Award nominations.
Dueling guest nominations have only been possible since 2010, as performers were limited to one listing per guest ballot before then. A similar rule remains in effect for the Best Directing and Best Technical Direction categories. A caveat is that Jane Alexander and Angela Lansbury were each nominated in Best Drama Guest Actress for multiple series in 2000 and 2005 respectively,...

Cherry Jones is back to defend her Emmy crown for “The Handmaid’s Tale” as the reigning Best Drama Guest Actress champion, but she faces heavy competition — from herself. Gold Derby’s combined odds actually predict that Jones will be snubbed for “The Handmaid’s Tale” and nominated for her new recurring role on Best Drama Series front-runner “Succession” instead. The rules allow her to be nominated for both, but nobody has ever been nominated against themselves in a guest category. Apprehension about predicting history to be made also helps to explain why Maya Rudolph ranks outside the top 20 in Best Comedy Guest Actress for “Saturday Night Live.” She has been nominated previously in that category for that show, but she is already the front-runner in that race for “The Good Place.”

Alan Tudyk is starring in a new Syfy pilot based on Dark Horse's Resident Alien, where he comes to Earth to see if we're worth saving.
Alan Tudyk is no stranger to being the resident star of genre fare on screens both big and small. Memorably soaring like a leaf in the wind on the gone-too-soon Firefly and Serenity, his superb character work has ranged from the more prestigious to the unabashedly fanboy-friendly, a la Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Dollhouse. He even poked fun at the dichotomy on his web series Con Man. However, he is returning to sci-fi proper now via the Syfy channel with Resident Alien, an adaptation of a Dark Horse comic book series of the same name.

Syfy has found its Resident Alien. Alan Tudyk (Con Man, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is set to star in the title role in Resident Alien, a drama pilot based on the Dark Horse comics series by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, from Universal Cable Productions, Dark Horse Entertainment and Amblin TV. In addition, Sara Tomko (Sneaky Pete), The Closer alum Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund (Silicon Valley) and Levi Fiehler (Mars) are set to round out the series regular cast.
Resident Alien is described as a dark, twisted and comedic fish-out-of-water story. Adapted for television by Chris Sheridan (Family Guy), it follows a crash-landed alien named Harry (Tudyk) who, after taking on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor, slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth — ultimately asking the question, “Are human beings worth saving?”

Syfy’s “The Magicians” released its Season 3 trailer, and surprisingly enough there’s little to no magic involved. Instead, the quest to restore magic to the world is officially on after the new Kings and Queens of Fillory failed to protect the kingdom last season. Protagonists Quentin, Eliot, Alice, and Margo will fight to bring the magic back, and it looks like they’ll go to any length to do so.
The series is based on the trilogy of novels by Lev Grossman and stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, and Rick Worthy. For Season 3, the series has also added fan-favorite actress Felicia Day. The characters have to work together now more than ever before in order to find the seven keys to balance magic throughout the realm.

Nathan Fillion will soon be back at the former home of Castle, ABC, to star in a new dramedy series called The Rookie...
Nathan Fillion’s starring role as Captain Malcolm Reynolds on Fox’s ahead-of-its-time space/sci-fi/western series Firefly will likely be forever considered the elephant in the room that is his career. Yet, his 2009-2016 run – opposite Stana Katic – as the title star of ABC crime procedural Castle was, in actuality, the most prominent gig of his career. Now, a year and a half after that series came to a (controversially sloppy) close, Fillion has finalised a deal to return to ABC with a series called The Rookie.
ABC has emerged the winner in a competitive situation to acquire The Rookie, reports Deadline. With the network giving a straight-to-series order, Nathan Fillion will not only serve as star, but has also nabbed an executive producer slot.

Nathan Fillion is back at his former Castle network home, ABC, this time in a police uniform, on The Rookie.
The Rookie is the newest vehicle for Nathan Fillion, who, of course, is best known for his starring role as Captain Malcolm Reynolds on Fox’s ignominiously axed, ahead-of-its-time 2002-2003 space/sci-fi/western series, Firefly, and a 2009-2016 run – opposite Stana Katic – as the title star of ABC crime procedural Castle. Now, two years after that series came to a (controversially sloppy) close, Fillion returns to ABC on this freshman cop series that mixes hard crime drama with some occasional Fillion levity.

Wednesday night’s installment of “Channel Zero: No-End House” was an episode-length dose of that universal feeling that comes with watching a piece of finely tuned horror: the tiny voice inside (or outside) that screams, “No! Don’t do it!” As with all on-screen tales of terror, the Syfy anthology series has mined plenty of moments like this in its second season, themed around the all-encompassing psychological consequences of an insidious haunted house. But while “The Damage” was a relative breather in the scope of what’s come before it, “No-End House” as a whole remains an ambitious series that’s building on the innovations of TV’s latest narrative wave.
As two friends who get sucked into the horror of No-End House, a literal end-of-the-road attraction with escalating horrors in each of its six rooms, Margot (Amy Forsyth) and Jules (Aisha Dee) have been fighting memories of their...

It’s a sad day for fans of the ol’ ultraviolence, as Syfy’s “Blood Drive,” a gleefully disturbing mash-up of horror and sci-fi tropes, will not be returning for a second season.
