British film financier Goldfinch has partnered with Luxembourg’s Digital Genesis Fund to create a $20 million investment initiative focused on Web3 and AI-powered entertainment studios.

The partnership aims to revolutionize traditional media production models by integrating tokenization, artificial intelligence and decentralized ecosystems. Film starring Sami Bouajila and Julie Gayet started shooting this week in Northern France.

Snd, the film arm of French broadcaster M6, has teamed with prolific French production company Empreinte Cinema for Juan Carlos Medina’s upcoming race-against-the-clock cop thriller The Chase (Abime) starring Sami Bouajila and Julie Gayet.

Snd has international rights for the film and will kick off sales at AFM for the murder mystery meets action film. Snd and Empreinte produce with Paris-based Once Upon A Time on board as co-producer.

The Chase stars Bouajila as a police officer who failed to find the murderer of a young girl 11 years earlier.

Hit Argentinian romantic comedy has been remade in more than 12 countries.

Guido Rud’s Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks’ The Remake Co. has struck a French deal for remake rights to hit Argentinian romantic comedy A Boyfriend For My Wife (Un Novio Para Mi Mujer).

Abel Nahmias’ Paris-based Echo Films is the latest company to adapt Juan Taratuto’s 2008 film. Nahmias’ credits include It Boy and Blood: The Last Vampire.

The story has been remade in more than 12 countries and centres on a frustrated husband who adopts the unusual strategy of hiring a flirtatious man in the hopes of getting rid of his wife.

A “Peacemaker” spinoff centered on Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller is in the works at HBO Max, according to an individual with knowledge of the project. Davis is in talks to reprise the role.

“Watchmen” writer Christal Henry will write and executive produce the series.

Davis previously told Nerd Report that she is ”fascinated by the character,” who serves the DC Universe in a similar capacity as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Waller is described as “a former congressional aide and government agent who is often placed in charge of the Suicide Squad, a semi-secret government-run group of former super villains working in return for amnesty.”

Task Force X is one of the most volatile teams in comic book history. Given the less-than-stellar "job security" offered by the infamous "Suicide Squad", most people won't be surprised to learn that each version of the squad is completely different. After all, with all of their lives in the balance, no one has main character immunity.

Still, one thing remains certain, the roster will almost always be populated by bad guys doing bad things to save the world. Well, at least that's what they're told, but they usually don't live long enough to complain. However, some versions of the Suicide Squad have fared better than others.

Kim Shillinglaw, a former BBC Two Controller and Endemol Shine Factual Director, has become a Non-Executive Director of Squad Goals and Reclaiming Amy producer Curious Films.

Shillinglaw, who has held some of the most senior roles in British TV, will seek to help the non-scripted company capitalize on a spate of recent commissions as it actions a growth plan over the next 12 months.

Curious said it is in production on a range of major projects for UK broadcasters and international streamers, having found success with BBC Three football doc series Squad Goals, which is now into its third season co-produced with Insight TV, and BBC Two’s Reclaiming Amy, the Amy Winehouse feature that is the BBC’s most-watched music documentary on iPlayer of all time.

Shillinglaw was most recently Endemol Shine Factual Director overseeing a raft of labels, but she left soon after the company was bought by Banijay.

The first season of Peacemaker ends in a mild but surprising twist when the Justice League shows up right after Smith's team has defeated the Butterflies. Since they are late, Smith yells some curse words at Aquaman before leaving. It's an interesting development, one that gives DC fans hopes for future interaction between the Suicide Squad and the Justice League.

However, this isn't the first time that the Suicide Squad or one of its members has had a Justice League storyline. On the pages, there have been several times when Amanda Waller's group of misfits has either teamed up with the Justice League or fought against them. On other occasions, the Squad has even taken over the League's duties.

During the brief stint in which James Gunn was fired from directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel Studios, he was snapped up by their closest rival, DC Films. Now, in the time that Disney has been waiting for Gunn to come back and do the third Guardians film, the filmmaker has written and directed The Suicide Squad and created and showran its eight-episode streaming spin-off Peacemaker.

Peacemaker was recently renewed for a second season and its finale suggested that Gunn has big plans for the Dceu. In a franchise seriously lacking in well-rounded characters, Gunn has introduced such fan-favorite gems as Bloodsport, Ratcatcher 2, Vigilante, and of course, Peacemaker.

A large part of Peacemaker's success is due to its hilarious and surprisingly endearing cast of characters. Led by a never-better John Cena, the ensemble grounds the show and makes it compelling, not to mention uproarious.

These characters are all men and women of action, deadly assassins ready to get the job done, unafraid to get their hands dirty if the situation calls for it. However, not all of them are as brave as the others; in fact, some are rather skittish. That doesn't stop them from fulfilling their duty, which only confirms that heroes can come from the most unexpected places.

Ever since Peacemaker first premiered on Jan. 13, there’s been an internet group effort to figure out where it stands among other superhero TV shows and Dceu projects in terms of quality. I certainly understand the impulse to rank things, having just eagerly participated in Den of Geek’s own ranking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But when it comes to Peacemaker, I had little desire to participate in these conversations.

The show has been so novel and enjoyable thus far that it seemed counterproductive to hold it up against the likes of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Doom Patrol, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, or any other current or former DC property. John Cena's Peacemaker was easily one of the biggest pleasant surprises in "The Suicide Squad," at least for those of us who knew nothing about the character previously. The team of villains and antiheroes looking for redemption needed to be balanced out with at least one genuine bad guy, which was a role that Peacemaker went above and beyond to fill.

Warner Bros. recently announced that there will be an eight-episode limited series based on The Suicide Squad character Peacemaker. Not only that, but there'll be not one but two TV show spin-offs of The Batman too, both of which will be made for HBO Max.

With all these big moves that Warner Bros. is making, there are other characters from the DC Extended Universe that deserve the same treatment. Between shows on Suicide Squad characters who were killed too early, specific villain-led series, and even another Commissioner Gordon-driven drama, there are characters with so much potential who are just sitting there.

Before he teamed up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and (the) Suicide Squad, James Gunn was penning adventures of an altogether different supergroup: the Mystery Incorporated crew. Yes, Gunn wrote the screenplays for both 2002's live-action "Scooby-Doo" and the 2004 sequel "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed." 

While the second movie may not have been nearly as big a hit as its predecessor, it did earn one true-blue fan: Bill Murray. Although these weapons were, of course, inspired by the source material, none of them felt quite as dangerous on the page as they did on the screen. Through a combination of visual effects, practical stunts, prop design, and brilliant performances, all of this tactical gear made a real impact on the battlefield. There are Spoilers ahead for The Suicide Squad. Watching the opening scene definitely showed fans why the members of Task Force X are called the Suicide Squad. Not even 12 minutes into the film, more than half of the team has been slaughtered on the beach in Corto Maltese. As you can see below, just that particular opening scene in The Suicide Squad had the internet going crazy.

Before the film could even explain to the viewers what was going on, we saw everything from Weasel drowning, Savant's head exploding, Blackguard's face getting ripped off, Boomerang being impaled by a helicopter, T.D.K. bleeding out with his arms detached, Javelin handing his weapon off to Harley Quinn before dying, to Mongal being turned into a pile of goop. Across the DC Extended Universe, heroes like Shazam and Aquaman have had their chance to shine alongside the legends such as Superman and Wonder Woman. Additionally, villains such as General Zod and Ocean Master have stolen the show. However, some of the best characters are those "in-between."

The Dceu has introduced a plethora of anti-heroes across the films including the two Suicide Squad movies and Birds Of Prey. Which ones are the best? It's tough to say, as so many have won over the hearts of fans despite their dubious ways and criminal history.

It is not often that someone can both debunk a rumor and further fuel it at the same time, but James Gunn managed to do that today when responding to a fan questioning whether we will be seeing a The Suicide Squad spin-off featuring Idris Elba's Bloodsport. The director's DC outing has already produced one series with John Cena's Christopher Smith soon to be seen again in his Peacemaker series, and there have been a number of other characters rumored to be getting their own spin-offs as a result. When asked whether the rumors about Bloodsport getting his own show were true, Gunn had an interesting response.

"There is a possibility of seeing more #Bloodsport in the near future - something I'd love to see! - but there is nothing currently in development. So this story is false."

John Cena is the star of 2021, as he has featured in not one, but two blockbuster movies, and he has been the most commended part of each movie. The Suicide Squad dressed the actor up in an outfit, not unlike the wrestling attire he’s used to, as Peacemaker, a ruthless murderer who kills in the name of peace. And F9 saw the former wrestler as the secondary villain with a sordid past.

Both roles show off Cena’s acting abilities in different ways, as one is deadpan and stoic and the other is outgoing and full of quotable one-liners. There are arguments to be made for either of them being his best role of 2021, but the most exciting of all is that they both have a future in their cinematic universes.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who is currently busy promoting her upcoming Netflix action thriller, Kate, is open to reprising her role as Huntress in the DC Extended Universe. Winstead debuted as Helena Bertinelli, a crossbow-wielding assassin in 2020's Birds of Prey. Winstead's take on the character was praised by most fans, and she was a standout character in the film. But with Birds of Prey underperforming at the box office, plans for a sequel and a Gotham City Sirens movie were put on hold indefinitely.

But recently, HBO Max announced a solo Black Canary movie starring Jurnee Smollet-Bell, leading many to believe that the characters of Birds of Prey may not be done just yet. The film was directed by David Ayer, famous for ‘End of Watch’, ‘Fury’, and ‘Training Day’. There is a resounding stylistic and thematic resonance to the vast majority of Ayer’s filmography - each entry is dark, gritty, based in reality, and hauntingly stark. One thing that is absolutely true about ‘Suicide Squad’ is that it would never be described as any of those adjectives. Okay, maybe I’d call it dark but it's a different kind of dark than ‘End of Watch’ where two police officers are struggling to survive in an LA shoot-out with Ak-47 wielding gang members. The Suicide Squad might not have performed as expected at the box office, but it’s the most talked-about movie amongst fans of the Dceu. The movie has become an instant classic for its R-rated violence, risk-taking, and turning unknown comic book characters into fan-favorites.

Between Warner Bros. wanting a PG-13 rating, Joel Kinnaman’s scheduling conflicts, and struggling with King Shark’s design, The Suicide Squad had a fascinating development.

In some ways, James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is inextricably linked to its time period. From the battle over R-rated comic book movies to the rocky history of the Dceu, from the disastrous process behind 2016's Suicide Squad to James Gunn's brief firing from Disney (to say nothing of the rich history of DC Comics characters it employs), it's a film with a lot of backstory behind it.

Still, imagine what the movie might look like if it were made in the 1990s. Despite how "of its time" it feels, its colorful characters and over-the-top style might not be so out of place in the era of Mystery Men and Tank Girl, and with such a massive cast, it's fun to picture who might have taken on those roles in another time.

There’s a surprise around every corner in The Suicide Squad. Director James Gunn brought his unique sense of style, humor, and irreverence to the movie and every scene is so full of shocking moments that it’s sometimes hard to keep up.

Characters are double-crossing each other at every possible moment and a giant starfish is tearing a city apart, but that’s all part of the appeal of the movie. Between fan-favorite characters getting murdered instantly, Rick Flag’s bravery, and characters coming back to life, The Suicide Squad subverts expectations at every chance it gets.

The latest twist in a box office full of them came this weekend courtesy of 20th Century Studios’ “Free Guy,” the first movie from Disney in over a year released only in theaters. The film’s lack of availability on streaming, premium or otherwise, almost certainly played a factor in its early success. The question is how much. The over-the-top nature of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad obviously requires audiences to suspend their disbelief. This generally applies to the violence on hand, as the movie largely adheres to the concept of having an internal logic that was in play during Task Force X’s mission in Corto Maltese.

However, the movie still ventured into nonsensical territory, most of which was never explained. These plot holes relate to the characters’ decisions, the failure of the story to acknowledge the Dceu’s continuity, and things happening without prior setups. While the likes of Bloodsport and Harley Quinn have won over fans with their roles in the story, it’s hard to overlook the things that leave viewers scratching their heads.

The DC Extended Universe deserves credit for bringing forward characters from the comics and making them popular in the mainstream. Since James Gunn's The Suicide Squad has been such a hit with fans and critics, this has led to significant interest in the team and questions over aspects like its origins and other adaptations where viewers can find them.

While some stories might not be as dark as Dceu’s Task Force X’s mission in Corto Maltese against Starro the Conqueror, there are plenty of satisfying Suicide Squad sagas to find within the comics and other media. These often include characters in addition to widely-known ones like Harley Quinn and Deadshot, and fans will find interesting answers to long-running questions they’ve had regarding the team.

Indian Media Entertainment Network (Imen) has revealed a robust film and series slate that will keep it busy through 2023.

First up is action film, Nilesh Sahay’s “Squad,” introducing Rinzing Denzongpa, which was shot extensively in Belarus. When the six-year-old granddaughter of India’s leading scientist is kidnapped, India sends a crack team led by a man (Denzongpa) who must battle Ptsd and his own demons to save her.

Imen had entered into a first look deal with the Zee group in 2018 and “Squad” will bow on the global ZEE5 streaming platform in October during the Diwali holiday frame. Imen has devised a two-month long marketing plan along with a trailer launch that is designed as a post-pandemic mega event with the who’s who of the Indian film industry attending.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” stunt co-ordinator Keir Beck will turn director with Indo-Australian co-production “Riley,” set in the mines of Western Australia.

The Suicide Squad hit theaters and HBO Max, and it ended up as one of the best-received Dceu movies since Man of Steel launched the new franchise. And part of the love might be because of its loyalty to the comics.

One of the biggest complaints about Dceu movies is that they veer too much from the DC Comics that adapt. Before the film's release, James Gunn said on Twitter that he was making The Suicide Squad based on the John Ostrander stories from the 1980s. He succeeded, as this felt more like the old-school Suicide Squad than the 2016 movie, and the critic reviews prove it was the right way to go.

The Suicide Squad took the ideas of the first movie and improved on almost everything, and the critics and fans’ approval proved they did it right this time. The movie has a higher Tomatometer score than any DC Extended Universe movie other than Wonder Woman, and a higher fan score than all but Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

There are several reasons for the movie’s success, but one of the biggest has to be improved characters. While most of the cast existed only to die, they still had defining scenes that were better than almost anything from the 2016 movie. A unique aspect of The Suicide Squad and the original Dceu movie is that they put great focus on the theme of friendship. Both movies have Task Force X members gradually warm up to their teammates, with many of them becoming friends despite their wildly different personalities.

This is doubly impressive considering erratic characters like Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, among others, don’t come across as the kind of people who would accept the idea of friendship. All things considered, though, whether it was the adventure in Midway City or Corto Maltese, the team members had great times of camaraderie that make them an enviable group due to the dynamic they shared.

The DC Extended Universe has been around long enough to have its own recognizable strengths and weaknesses. While The Suicide Squad’s reception is very positive overall, it still featured a number of mistakes the Dceu as a whole has been experiencing.

Earlier films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Shazam! and others, have also included these issues, and the series still hasn’t gotten around to fixing them. Even though the plotline of Task Force X arriving in Corto Maltese to fight the alien Starro the Conqueror is unique, everyone from Harley Quinn to Bloodsport and the overall presentation of the movie suffered from problems that can be seen as the franchise’s weak points.

The DC Extended Universe had some work to do when it began production on a sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad. That movie was a massive disappointment, as it was blasted by critics and certified rotten at Rotten Tomatoes. To amend things, the Dceu started over from scratch and brought in James Gunn, the director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

It was no surprise that people would compare The Suicide Squad to Guardians of the Galaxy. Both movies have teams of misfits set out on a mission that seems to big for them to tackle.
