Set against the grim backdrop of Nazi-occupied France, *Resistance 1942* delivers a gripping narrative of survival and defiance. While the film takes creative liberties with historical accuracy, it successfully captures the emotional weight of resistance during World War II.
Cary Elwes shines as Jacques, a man determined to spread hope through clandestine radio broadcasts, despite the ever-present threat of discovery. His dynamic with his daughter Juliet and their fellow survivors adds depth to the story, making their struggle feel personal and urgent. The tension escalates as Captain Klaus Jager closes in, creating a suspenseful game of cat and mouse.
While some may find the film's approach to the genre familiar, it remains a solid historical drama with a powerful message. The performances, particularly Jason Patric's portrayal of the enigmatic Andre, add layers to the narrative, making it more than just another war film.
Despite its fictional elements, *Resistance 1942* succeeds in delivering an engaging and emotional experience. If you're looking for a film that balances drama, suspense, and a message of resilience, this one is worth watching.

It is nice to watch a WWII movie from a new angle! It takes place in France instead of Germany, and shows how no one was allowed to stand up to the Nazis.
It is always nice to Carey Elwes, and a nice surprise to see Mira Furlan.
Story was not predictable at all which is also refreshing. Usually with WWII movies, you can see where it is going, but considering the whole movie takes a different angle than your typical WWII movie, it was not easy to assume what will happen next. I absolutely loved the end, took me by surprise.
I also really loved the message of not standing up to those who are wrong is essentially picking a side.

EN: 'Burning at Both Ends' was better than I expected, especially considering the low IMDb rating. Unlike many World War II films, the story was not predictable, which made it more engaging. The message was powerful and still relevant today, especially with the rise of far right movements. It shows that not standing up to an aggressor makes you complicit. The soundtrack was very good and the actors gave strong performances. The dinner scene was hard to watch because of the hatred shown by the Nazis, making it one of the most intense moments in the film. The only issue is that the story is not fully accurate from a historical point of view. Still, it is a thought provoking and memorable film.
I'm not sure why all the poor ratings. Good story, well acted and well produced.
Not ever going to be Oscar nominated but a good entertaining watch. I have rated it slightly higher to give it a better score as I enjoyed it. I have definitely seen a lot, lot worse.

Good quality filming and sound. Good sets for a low budget. Acting... a tad bit over emphasizing. Sort of over dramatic at the end. Not a bad film if you are into Nancy Drew type stuff.

- PatzerThe film appears to start in August 1942 in Vichy France. However, the Gestapo are shown as hunting the main character, there are German troops in the factory where his daughter works and there are German tanks (quite convincing Panzer IVs) in the streets. Unfortunately, the Germans did not occupy the Free Zone until November 1942 (for example, Klaus Barbie, the actual head of the Lyon Gestapo, arrived in Lyon in November 1942).
