Shandel also graduated from FIDM, The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising a for-profit private college in Los Angeles, California. It offers courses in fashion, entertainment, beauty, interior design and graphic design.

At an early age, she performed vocally amongst others at Carnegie Hall in New York City, United States.

In 2013, Shandel was elected into the Miss California Latina pageant to compete, however she gracefully declined the offer to work solely on acting.

Shandel shares relation to Portuguese RCA recording artist and actress, Carmen Miranda, who was known in the 1920's as a Brazilian superstar.
