Younger brother of fellow second-generation performer Mercedes Kilmer. Their parents are Val Kilmer and Joanne Whalley; aptly enough, Jack and his sister have dual American and British citizenship.

His full name is John Wallace Kilmer, after his English actress-mother.

Despite being the son of two actors, he had never intended to pursue acting before being cast in Palo Alto (2013).

He met Gia Coppola in school when he was in the first grade and she was in the sixth. She would later direct him in Palo Alto (2013).

Jack graduated high school in 2013. When Gia offered him the role of 'Teddy' in 'Palo Alto,' he initially thought it was a brief project that he would finish before joining college. However, he cherished working on the film so much, he ultimately dropped the plan to study further and decided to pursue a career as an actor.

While growing up, Jack was more interested in art forms other than acting, especially music. He loved playing the drums. He also learned to play several other instruments. Jack would even perform in a band in high school. Had he not been an actor, he would have definitely become a musician.

Jack loves surfing and skateboarding. An ardent pet lover, He owns two dogs.

Jack attended primary school at 'The Center for Early Education,' where film director, screenwriter, and actor Gia Coppola also studied. Jack and Gia met for the first time when he was in first grade and she was in sixth grade.

Even though Jack's parents are actors, he was never interested in pursuing the craft. His interest in acting developed only after he made his acting debut.

Had an uncredited cameo as Iceman's son in Top Gun: Maverick (2022) during Iceman's funeral scene, standing next to his real-life sister Mercedes Kilmer and actors Tom Cruise (Maverick) and Jean Louisa Kelly (who played Sarah, Iceman's widow). His childhood photos alongside his father Val Kilmer and his sister Mercedes also appear in the film at the entrance to the Kazansky home when Maverick visits Iceman.
