Harvey Guillén, who voices Gabo in Disney’s Wish, is giving his take on the studio’s inclusivity efforts on their animated films.

Looking back at the 100 years since Walt Disney Animation Studios was created, the actor said the studio was going in the “right direction.”

“I think they’re making strides in the right direction,” Guillén told ComicBook in an interview. “I think it’s hard to rebuild a wheel that’s already been in motion for a while, and it’s hard to think of a new direction, especially in where we’re at with the world, but they’re putting their best foot forward, I think. And sometimes those things take time, and I’m optimistic.”

After it was suggested if a queer princess would be in the future, Guillén said, “that’d be fantastic.”

Chris Pine voices Magnifico, a king with the power to grant wishes in Disney's upcoming film Wish. Pine had fun voicing the character and credits the music by Ben Rice and Julia Michaels for helping him bring Magnifico to life. Wish's directors and producers discuss the evolution of Disney villains and how Magnifico is a charming yet villainous character who viewers will love to hate.

In the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios film, Wish, star Chris Pine voices Magnifico, a king with the power to grant wishes. Of course, the character's villainous nature is eventually revealed and the movie's heroine, Asha (voiced by Ariana DeBose), discovers that Magnifico has no intention of making people's wishes come true.

While chatting with ComicBook.com, the Wonder Woman actor opened up about voicing Magnifico and reacted to being called "Disney's hottest villain." Pine said:

Chris Pine has admitted he was a bit nervous to perform opposite Ariana DeBose in the upcoming Disney animated film Wish.

Though the actor showed off his vocal cords in 2014’s Into the Woods, he recently told Entertainment Tonight, “It’s just not something I do on a daily.”

“When you’re singing opposite Ariana…it’s a big deal,” Pine added. But when DeBose learned her singing partner was doubting his ability, she had nothing but praise for him and his talents.

“He can sing! He can absolutely sing,” she told Et. “When I found out that I was cast in this film, I was like, ‘Oh!’ I mean, did you see him in Into The Woods?… I think Chris is one of those examples of not understanding just how talented he is.”

Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the Los Angeles premiere of Walt Disney Animation’s latest film “Wish” on Wednesday night was set to be a star-free affair — well, save for the literal star on which the movie is based.

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Disney Music Group today released the new song “Welcome to Rosas,” performed by Ariana DeBose and the talented cast of Wish. Now available on SiriusXM’s Disney Hits Channel 302, YouTube, Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, and all digital service providers, “Welcome to Rosas” is the third of five songs being revealed as part of a weekly “Wish Wednesdays” music campaign ahead of the film’s launch in U.S. theaters on November 22. After 100 years of making animated film musicals about talking animals, princesses, classic literary characters, superheroes, and even space pirates, there's not a whole lot of ground that Disney has never covered before. With the upcoming "Wish," however, the House of Mouse will ring in its centennial by focusing on the very idea of wishes. It's a motif that's appeared time and time again in the studio's work, yet it's rarely interrogated. What even is a "wish," really? Who decides which wishes come true and which ones do not? And if wishes can change the course of one's life, what does that even mean for those whose greatest wishes are never granted? It's a real existential conundrum, the further you go down this rabbit hole.

No doubt, you'll be shocked to learn that Disney hasn't fashioned "Wish" as an Ingmar Bergman-esque rumination on these questions and what they say about the human condition.

Chris Pine isn’t a singer but he tries his best to handle a Disney tune with “This Is The Thanks I Get?!” from Wish. The studio released a minute-long clip of Pine’s animated character, King Magnifico, performing the song. The trailer for Walt Disney Animation’s upcoming movie Wish has become the studio’s biggest trailer since the release of promotional spots for Frozen 2 in 2019.

The spot earned 66.5 million views across online platforms, according to the company. It surpassed the teaser trailer, which was released in April, by almost 20 million views and has quickly become the most viewed Disney trailer on TikTok to date.

The social media conversation saw praise for the original story, music, cute characters and dastardly villain.

Wish is the 62nd feature release from Disney Animation and comes as the studio celebrates its 100th anniversary. 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was its first feature. The movie even takes its cues from the early days to tell the story of wishing upon a star.

Disney‘s next animated movie, Wish, is coming out so soon!

The new musical centers on Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star.

Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe – the ruler of the magical kingdom of Rosas, King Magnifico – to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

Wish will be out in theaters on November 22, 2023.

On top of Ariana DeBose, Alan Tudyk and Chris Pine, the movie will also star a handful of familiar faces as voices to royals, friends and foes.
