Spy Kids: Armageddon is a revival of the popular Spy Kids franchise by Robert Rodriguez, coming to Netflix on September 22. The movie follows two children who become spies to save their parents and the world from a powerful game developer. Robert Rodriguez is reviving one of his most popular stories thanks to Netflix with Spy Kids: Armageddon, a new movie within the famous action franchise, coming to the streaming platform on September 22. It's been more than ten years since the last movie from the Spy Kids hit theaters back in 2011, and fans never imagined the story would be revived. However, now that Hollywood is filled with legacy sequels, reboots and revivals, Rodriguez didn't want to miss the chance to continue expanding the world of one of the most acclaimed kids' sagas of the new millennium.

The next generation of Spy Kids arrive in the official trailer for Spy Kids: Armageddon.

After more than a decade, writer/director Robert Rodriguez has revived the beloved Spy Kids franchise with a fifth installment. As the trailer revealed, the new movie focuses on the children of "the world’s greatest secret agents" who "unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology." Armageddon looks to combine elements from the first and third films -- 2001's Spy Kids and 2003's Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, respectively -- which also dealt with missing spy parents and venturing into a video game.

Carmen, Juni, and the rest of the Cortez family are back for another butt-kicking spy adventure. In April, Netflix announced that Robert Rodriguez, the original director of the 2000s action films, signed on to write and direct an upcoming "Spy Kids" reboot movie. Skydance Media optioned the film rights to Netflix with the intention of reimagining the spy thriller for a modern audience, according to Variety.

Netflix has released the first teaser for Spy Kids: Armageddon.

The teaser introduces a young pair of siblings, played by Everly Carganilla and Connor Esterson, who learn that their parents are actually world-class secret agents -- and they're in trouble. Armed with high-tech gear, the siblings set out to find their parents, stop the bad guys and save the world. The teaser concludes with the announcement that Armageddon arrives on Netflix on Sept. 22.

The Spy Kids franchise began in 2001, described by creator Robert Rodriguez as "a fusion of Willy Wonka and James Bond." The series followed the Cortez family -- siblings Carmen (Alexa Vega) and Juni (Daryl Sabara), their parents Gregorio (Antonio Banderas) and Ingrid (Carla Gugino) and their uncle Isador (Danny Trejo) -- as they use their espionage skills and advanced gadgets to battle supervillains and save the day.

People unveiled the first look photos, which show Levi -- who appeared earlier this year in Shazam! Fury of the Gods -- and Rodriguez beside their on-screen children (played by Connor Esterson and Everly Carganilla) who are in a high-tech vehicle. The other image shows Esterson and Carganilla's sibling characters striking a superspy pose. Spy Kids: Armageddon is a reboot of Robert Rodriguez's popular family franchise, which launched in 2001.
