[on performing nude] I've taken a lot of roles that I feel it's been necessary for, and I've said no to it in moments, but it's something I'm not afraid of. I'm more afraid to take off my clothes in real life than I am in front of a camera.

[on telling her parents she wanted to be an actor] They were bummed when I first told them. They were like, 'Ugh. Ohhhh. You're gonna be told that you're too short, that your tits aren't big enough. You're gonna constantly be told the things that are wrong with you.'

[on using nudity to reveal insight into a character] In real life, there are moments when you take your clothes off and it comes with a flurry of confidence and wonder and exploration, and there are moments where it makes you feel like you want to be swallowed whole by a giant crack in the earth. I think nudity can explore that on camera. I really do.

[on onscreen nudity not bothering her] As an actress, taking your clothes off is completely your own choice; it should be up to you; it shouldn't be up to anybody else. I don't want to just stand around naked if I don't need to, but I've also never been afraid of it. I'm very European like that. I grew up with lots of topless sunbathing and stuff. It's just a part of life to me, I think.

[on working with director Jill Soloway] Jill truly has set a bar for what it is to be a woman and, I'm just going to say this, discover your vagina. Own your ovaries. And, like, be a fucking woman.

[on working on TV for the first time] That was a shift for me, coming from film. I wasn't used to working with a different director every time. In TV, it's so much more about the writers, because they're the ones creating the universe. The writers are the ones who know what's up.

[on her sexuality] I'm comfortable with it. I've always grown up with women who were very sexual. I think in today's society, they make it kind of unallowed, and I don't think that's a good idea. I think women being sexual is an amazing thing, and our sexuality is something to be very, very proud of. In Europe, there's a very different way of looking at it. For example, boobs don't mean you're going to get a rated-R movie. Nudity is nudity; it's not a shock factor.

[why she acts] I wish I had the brains to go and get into politics or cure illnesses, but I don't. But I do think films can really make you feel less alone, or they can transport you to a place you've never been, or remind you of a place you've forgotten. They are this extraordinary porthole into different ways of living that means people empathize with people more. I hope.

[reaction to nude scenes] I definitely have been penalized for taking my clothes off. And honestly, sorry for swearing, but f*** that.

[working with Daniel Radcliffe] Magical! He's so, so giving as an actor and so wonderful as a human being. I get on so well with him. I learned so much. He was so, so fun to work with too. He makes you laugh and then when the scenes get serious he gets so deeply into it. I loved every second. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
