Returned a fumbled handoff between the New York Giants' Joe Pisarcik and Larry Csonka for a touchdown in the closing seconds on November 19, 1978 at Giants Stadium to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 19-17 win. The play is now known as the "Miracle at the Meadowlands."

Had a memorable segment on SportsCenter (1979) in 2010 where he would dress up as "The Hermanator". He would assess whether struggling or mediocre NFL teams had a chance at making the playoffs. If he felt that the team would make the playoffs, he would say "They'll be baaack!". If he felt that the team would not qualify for the playoffs, he would say "Hasta la vista!".
