Barbara Purser Hicks

Barbara Hicks trained at the Webber Douglas School and made numerous appearances on stage, screen, and television over more than half a century. She was the mother of actor Giles Taylor.

Her brief and uncredited role in "Tom Jones" required her to lead a small group of village women who throw clumps of earth and shout abuse at the Diane Cilento character, Molly, who has been revealed as pregnant whilst unmarried. Director Tony Richardson asked her to improvise a line during the filming of this scene, but the torrent of verbal abuse she improvised on the spot was so foul-mouthed that it was almost entirely cut.
