Discovered James McAvoy, according to McAvoy in a recent interview broadcast on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Hayman did a talk at McAvoy's school and after McAvoy thanked Hayman for sharing his insight into his long and interesting career. Hayman later asked McAvoy to audition for a role in Die Hölle nebenan (1995), which he got.

Humanitarian work is very important to him, and as such he started his own charity, Spirit Aid.

Studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

He returned to the stage for the first time in 15 years in Six and a Tanner at Oran Mor (2006).

Has 3 sons, Sammy Hayman, David Hayman Jr., and Sean Hayman.
