Struck with crippling arthritis at age 21 that initally left him bedridden. For years, he was unable to walk under his own power. Then, one day in 1972, the pain left him, and he remains completely free of the illness. He credits this to his mother's prayers that the pain stop.

Son of actor Glenn Ford and famous tap dancer, Eleanor Powell.

Was indirectly responsible for the inclusion of Bill Haley and the Comets' "Rock Around the Clock" in Die Saat der Gewalt (1955). Director Richard Brooks was visiting Peter's father Glenn Ford, who starred in Die Saat der Gewalt (1955) at Ford's home, and heard the nine-year-old Peter playing the record. Brooks liked it and featured it prominently in the film.

Was a Reserve Deputy in the L.A. County Sheriff's Department for 22 years.
