Greta Garbo asked Cukor, on the set of Die Kameliendame (1936), "Who is that big man, and what part is he playing?" Cukor replied, "He's playing the part of a friend who needs a job." He appeared in ten of Cukor's films, counting Evans' appearance in Cukor's uncredited work on Vincent van Gogh - Ein Leben in Leidenschaft (1956).
