He was a co-founder and past president of the Conference of Personal Managers. His clients included Dick Haymes, Jo Stafford and the Pied Pipers, Merv Griffin, Jackie Gleason, and Mort Sahl.

He became interested in big bands as a boy hanging around the Meadowbrook Ballroom in New Jersey, after working days as a page at the New York Stock Exchange. Glenn Miller put him in charge of the band's instruments and luggage, later making him road manager.
