Immediately prior to meeting Rick Berman and Ira Steven Behr for the first time prior to reading for the part of Ezri Dax, de Boer drank a glass of water but it went down her windpipe. The first thing the showrunners saw of the actress was her coughing and gasping for breath. De Boer assumed she had blown the audition by giving a poor first impression, but ultimately she was cast in the role.

Her last name in Dutch translates into 'the Farmer' and is a very common last name in the Netherlands.

Has starred in two different science fiction series co-created by Michael Piller in which her character was part of a love triangle: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and Dead Zone (2002).

Mother, with John Kastner, of daughter Summer Lee Kastner, born in January 2007.

Has appeared with Torri Higginson in two different productions: Szenen einer Familie (1993) and Family of Cops 3 - Zigarren für den Killer (1999).
