Juan Calvo Domenech

Juan Calvo won an award at Cannes for his portrayal of the amiable "Fray Papillo" in the Spanish movie Marcelino, Pan y Vino.

Father of actors Armando Calvo and Manuel Calvo.

Juan Calvo sometimes appeared in film with his sons, like in "El Escándalo", "Espronceda" and "Los Últimos de Filipinas". Armando played the lead and Juan secondary roles. Armando and his brother Manolo made several movies together in Mexico, as "La Casa de la Troya", "Abismos de Amor", "La Vorágine" and "Acapulco".

Juan Calvo married Minerva Lespier, the daughter of a Puerto Rican journalist, in San Juan, P.R., during his first acting tour of Central and South America; subsequently, fathering actors Armando Calvo Lespier and Juan Manuel Calvo Lespier (aka Manuel or Manolo Calvo).
