Along with Gary Burghoff, G. Wood and Corey Fischer, he is one of only four actors to appear in both the original 'MASH' movie and the subsequent spin-off series (although Brown played Fred Williamson's movie character in the series).

It had previously (and erroneously) been stated that he was let go from M*A*S*H (1972) after the producers discovered there were no black surgeons in the Korean War. This is false, because the character of Spearchucker Jones was based off a black surgeon Richard Hooker had served with. Brown left M*A*S*H (1972) on his own accord to pursue other projects.

Tim Brown's last NFL game was Super Bowl III when the New York Jets beat the Baltimore Colts 16-7. His team-mate was Johnny Unitas who also was in the movie MASH.

Prior to acting career, was a running back in the National Football League. Played for the Green Bay Packers (1 game, 1959), Philadelphia Eagles (1960-1967), and Baltimore Colts (1968).
