- His last request was that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Requiem" be performed at his funeral.

- Polish composer and piano player. Lived in Paris since 1830 where he changed his name into Frederic François Chopin.
- Chopin was the first great composer to be photographed, in 1847 and 1849. A third portrait photo believed to be of him was discovered in 2017.
- Terrified of being buried alive, Chopin instructed his personal physician to remove his heart immediately after his death. The organ was placed in a crystal jar filled with cognac and hermetically sealed. In 1850, Chopin's sister Ludwika smuggled his preserved heart beneath her clothing to Warsaw, where it was later interred at Holy Cross Church.
- Chopin was a keyboard virtuoso who wrote his two piano concertos as touring vehicles for himself. But he detested performing in public, and ultimately gave only 30 concerts during his career. He made a living as a well-paid piano teacher to the French upper classes, and through publishing his music.
