- Although he is probably best known for playing bully Biff Tannen in the Zurück in die Zukunft (1985) trilogy, he is said to be a very nice man in real life who drew upon his own personal experiences of being bullied as a child to create the Biff persona.
- As a recurring character on Ghost Whisperer - Stimmen aus dem Jenseits (2005), he returned to the same set he acted on during the Zurück in die Zukunft (1985) trilogy.

- Is often mistaken by fans for the late character actor David Graf who played Tackleberry in the Police Academy movies. Many fans think Wilson played Tackleberry, unaware that it was in fact Graf and Graf actually passed away in 2001.
- Good friends with actor Marc McClure.
- Says that the car scene in Zurück in die Zukunft (1985) where he molests the Lea Thompson character, Lorraine, was the most difficult scene he ever shot. In between takes, he would whisper, "I'm so sorry, Lea", to which she would reply, "It's just acting, Tom.".
