Since the early 1990s, she has concentrated on directing documentaries, especially portraits of celebrities such as Václav Havel, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Anthony Quinn and Ang Lee.

Born Vera Wilhelmowna Rust, the daughter of Ada Tschechowa and Dr. Wilhelm Rust, she later adopted her mother's maiden name. She was the granddaughter of Olga Tschechowa and also of actor Michael Chekhov. Some sources claim she is Jewish under the matrilineal descent system as her mother (Chekov's daughter) was patrilineally Jewish. Her great-granduncle was writer Anton Chekhov.

Nikolaus Glowna is her son by her marriage (1967-1990) to Hartmut Reck, which ended in divorce. She had a son by a relationship with Hartmut Reck. Glowna adopted the child. After Tschechowa and Glowna divorced, she wed Paschek.

Vera Tschechowa, was a German producer, director, screenwriter, and actress of Russian descent.

In 1960 she had a relationship with Hartmut Reck, from whom her son, the film composer Nikolaus Glowna, comes. She tried in vain to force Reck to marry through a court order.
