You probably know about a relatively new trend of horror adaptations of popular children’s classics. And while this isn’t something completely new, the number of such films we’ve been seeing in recent years is over the top.

And while most of these films targeted stories that were, at one point or another, adapted by Disney, the majority were actually based on popular children’s classics or fairytales. It has been well over two years since “Magazine Dreams” made its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Following its premiere, the movie received largely mixed reviews but most critics were quick to heap praise on the performance given by its star, Jonathan Majors. It was subsequently picked up by Searchlight Pictures, which originally slated it to be released on December 8, 2023 — likely targeting a potential awards campaign for Majors.

The actor was caught up, however, in a domestic assault scandal in March 2023 that tarnished his previously shining, fast-rising star profile. Searchlight later dropped “Magazine Dreams,” reportedly due to both Majors’ assault case and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Days ahead of the movie's premiere, Magazine Dreams garnered its debut Rotten Tomatoes score with its early reviews by critics. The film has a Certified Fresh score of 84%, which is one of the best-rated films of Majors' career. The former MCU star's performance in particular is getting big praise from many critics, with some suggesting he'd likely have been up for an Oscar for his role if not for his real-life controversies.

In 2023, the action thriller Mercy was pummeled by critics, getting slapped with a rare and unwanted Rotten Tomatoes score of 0%. However, the film is getting another chance with Netflix subscribers two years after its release.

Per FlixPatrol, Mercy is currently ranked at No. 7 on Netflix's Top 10 chart for feature films, globally. The film was not a big success upon its release in theaters on May 12, 2023. Its reception was especially harsh, given the 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and its audience score is only good by direct comparison, as it's also rather low at 17%. The movie was acknowledged at the 44th Golden Raspberry Awards (aka the Razzies), when Jon Voight "won" the award for Worst Actor.

The Order is about hate, though not quite in the way you'd expect. It seems an obvious theme, given the story follows a white supremacist terrorist cell and the FBI's effort to stop them, and some space is given to the hateful doctrine they live by. But the movie is less interested in hate ideologically as it is in the feeling. And director Justin Kurzel is less interested in explaining that feeling than he is in observing it and its effects. Terrifier's cult fan base will be pleased to know that the saga doesn't end in Terrifier 3. Director Damien Leone delivers on his promise of another sequel, and he's keeping the door open for more installments to the franchise.

Actor David Howard Thornton is making his mark on the horror genre with his continued portrayal of Art the Clown. Terrifier creator and director Damien Leone confirms that the latest film's final kill sequence was originally far more brutal.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Leone opened up about how Terrifier 3's portrayal of the death of Gabbie's mother "was supposed to be way worse." As Leone explained, "I actually wound up trimming it a lot where the shots that you do see are almost subliminal and everything is so fast. But even still, it's just the idea of what's happening is so cruel and gruesome, so I'm glad that it worked."

The development of Terrifier 4 is clarified by one of the franchise's main players. Terrifier 3 is releasing in theaters soon, continuing Damien Leone's slasher horror franchise, but this time in a Christmas setting. The movie stars David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown, with a supporting cast that includes Lauren Lavera, Jason Patric, Daniel Roebuck, Samantha Scaffidi, Bryce Johnson, Bradley Stryker, Charlotte McKee, and Elliot Fullam. It is set for release on October 11, right in the middle of Halloween season.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Thornton discusses the development of Terrifier 4. Speaking about writer-director Leone's progress on Terrifier 4, Thornton noted that "he hasn't actually started writing the script." Thornton clarified though that Leone "has a lot of ideas" for what Terrifier 4 could look like. The actor also noted that him and Leone had worked together on how they wanted Art the Clown's arc to go.

After a brief check-in with Velma (Abby McEnany), Teddi (Robin Weigert), and their adorable Corgi about his next job locating a vintage Shelby Cobra, Colter pops into a restaurant for a quick bite.

There’s a bit of a ruckus in the restaurant when diners spot a woman leaving flyers on the cars in the parking lot. A waitress warns him not to get involved, but of course, Colter doesn’t listen.
