In August 2013, Australians in Film announced that Sullivan Stapleton would be honored with the organization's Breakthrough Award at an exclusive Benefit Dinner held October 24, 2013 in Los Angeles.

Brother of Nachbarn (1985) actress, Jacinta Stapleton.

Sullivan is the former partner of Neighbours actress Carla Bonner. They split in late 2007 after 2 and a half years together.

Stapleton has mentioned in the past that he has the title of the cult Australian movie he acted in tattooed on his arm: Animal Kingdom.

My aunt put my cousins into a children's modelling agency, then my mum did it with us. Me and my sister got a few TV adverts, which was good pocket money. A director saw photos of me and asked me to do a short film.

[on whether he would do another 300 movie] Yes I would do another 300 movie. It was always fun to get that six pack, have it for a few months and then say goodbye to it. Those are some good memories, having those six things sticking out of my stomach. It would mean a lot of working out and a lot less eating. The guys that worked us out for the film worked at the science too. A snack would be like 8 peanuts in your hand and they said, 'This is all you need to keep going. And that's all you are going to get.' But then you get abs! So it's good.
