Warning: Spoilers for The Night Agent Season 1.
Quick LinksWhat Does Osprey Have to Do With the Night Action Program? And Who is He/She?What Happens to Osprey in 'The Night Agent' Season 1?And Does He Appear in Season 2?
Ever since The Night Agent landed on Netflix, the series has become one of the platform’s most-watched shows. The wildly popular series is an action thriller that follows a low-level FBI agent named Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who works in the basement of the White House. His only job is to answer the phone if it ever rings. Nonetheless, it never does. Designated for a highly classified counterintelligence program within the FBI known as Night Action, the phone is meant to assist undercover agents in the field should they ever need immediate help. As such, Peter spends most of his time analyzing reports rather than actually answering the phone.

Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan are back in The Night Agent season 2, which just premiered on Netflix on Jan. 23. And, after their characters, Peter Sutherland and Rose Larkin, saved the day in the jaw-dropping finale in The Night Agent season 1, there aren't many cast members or characters from season 1 who return for season 2.
By my unofficial count, there are only four characters who appear in season 1 and season 2: Peter, Rose, and President Michelle Travers (Kari Matchett), and one other important character that you might not have recognized.
Spoilers ahead for The Night Agent season 2 finale!

Two years after Shawn Ryan’s “The Night Agent” exploded on Netflix, the action-thriller starring Gabriel Basso returns on January 23. Season 1 viewers will recall that Basso plays FBI agent Peter Sutherland, tasked with answering a mysterious phone in the White House basement that never rings — until it does.
The call from Rose (Luciane Buchanon) changes Peter’s life in more ways than one, catapulting both of them into a life-and-death chase where they lose allies daily and can’t even be sure who’s after them. Everything Peter thought he knew about his job, his employers, and the FBI itself is called into question, and somewhere in all the high-octane madness, he and Rose fall in love.
Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, Netflix released the first eight minutes as a teaser, as well as the news that Season 3 is officially a go. But before diving into all that, let’s...

The Night Agent season 1 is filled with several shocking twists, including the truth about Peter Sutherland Sr. (Sebastien Robert), the White House mole, and who was behind the metro attack. The Night Agent's stellar cast is led by Gabriel Basso in the new series adapted from Matthew Quirk's best-selling novel of the same name, following an FBI agent as he uncovers a conspiracy involving top government officials. The Night Agent became one of Netflix's biggest new shows when it was released, praised by both critics and audiences for its action, plot twists, and engaging storyline.
After intercepting the bomber during the metro attack, Diane Farr (Hong Chau) gives Peter a new job answering the night action emergency line. During one of his shifts, Peter receives a call from Rose (Luciane Buchanan) that leads him to involvement in the metro bombing investigation and uncovering who the masterminds behind the attack were.

The Night Agent season 2 can improve on season 1 with more complex villains to add depth and intrigue to the story. The predictable resolution of season 1's plot leaves room for a more surprising and compelling storyline in season 2. Season 2 will feature an original story separate from the source material, potentially leading to a more creative and engaging narrative.
The Night Agent season 2 has big shoes to fill, but there's one easy way it can outdo the series' successful first season. Having two charismatic leads, FBI Special Agent Peter Sutherland (Garbiel Basso) and cybersecurity expert Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), plenty of action, and a fair share of plot twists and turns, The Night Agent rapidly became one of Netflix's most-watched titles in the early half of 2023. Between January and June, season 1 of The Night Agent reached nearly 1 billion hours viewed, warranting the hit series' near immediate renewal.

Emilia Jones (Coda) and Nicholas Braun (Succession) co-star in Cat Person, a sharply written thriller that explores the minefield of dating in the modern era. Based on the New Yorker short story by Kristen Roupenian, it’s by turns chilling, suspenseful and provocative.
Directed by Susanna Fogel, Cat Person centres on 20-year-old Margot (Jones) a second-year student who also holds down a concession stand job at her local cinema. That’s where she meets Robert (Braun), a tall, bearded older man who takes her number after a bit of cross-counter flirtation.

Emilia Jones (Coda) and Nicholas Braun (Succession) do not appear to be a match made in heaven in the first trailer for Cat Person.
Set for release Oct. 6 from Rialto Pictures, director Susanna Fogel’s feature premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival and is adapted from author Kristen Roupenian’s viral New Yorker short story of the same name. Cat Person offers a look at contemporary dating by focusing on college student Margot (Jones), who has a fling with an older man named Robert (Braun) but soon gets suspicious about him.
After Margot expresses regrets about her time spent with Robert — who had previously described himself as a cat person — her friend Taylor (Geraldine Viswanathan) asks if at least his pet felines were cute. “I never saw them,” Margot replies ominously as she begins to doubt how honest he’s been.

This post contains spoilers for "The Night Agent," the novel and the TV series.
Before "The Night Agent" arrived on Netflix, it was sitting on shelves at Barnes & Noble. The 2023 political thriller series is an adaptation of Matthew Quirk's eponymous 2019 novel. A former journalist, Quirk writes breezy paperback thrillers in the Tom Clancy mold. "The Night Agent" is no different — a low-ranking FBI agent answers a call from a woman who escaped an assassin and together they come across a conspiracy within the White House.
That said, Netflix's "The Night Agent" is a very loose adaptation, as it uses the novel's premise and main characters to tell a different story. The novel's core characters — Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), and White House Chief of Staff Diane Farr (Hong Chau) — are in the series. However, it also invents many new characters to fill out the supporting cast.

One of The Night Agent's biggest twists was in the reveal of Diane Farr's function as the mole, which begs the question as to why she really hired Peter Sutherland for the Night Action program in the first place. Gabriel Basso's Peter Sutherland does indeed retain the attributes for the ideal agent to cover top-secret, high-level government initiatives. His knack for heroism is proven with his dedication to the protection of crime witness Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), and his loyalty to upholding the constructs of justice shines throughout the events of the Netflix action thriller series.
Peter's devotion to maintaining the morally good leads him to the lap of mole Diane Farr (Hong Chau) shortly after the incident of the Metro bombing. In season 1, episode 3 "The Zookeeper," Farr enlists Sutherland to man the Night Action line with the proposed intention of hiring someone hardworking, trustworthy, and loyal, and...

Spoilers for "The Night Agent" follow.
"The Night Agent" proved to be a success for Netflix, so it's no surprise the platform has renewed the political thriller for a second season. Adapted from a novel by Matthew Quirk, "The Night Agent" follows FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso). He works in the White House's basement, and every shift, he sits next to a phone, waiting for calls from "Night Action" agents in case of an emergency. Peter's first call comes from Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), a niece of two Night Action agents. Rose narrowly escaped a home invasion that claimed her aunt and uncle's lives; she and Peter get thrown into a conspiracy that goes up to the Oval Office.
Quirk's novel was a standalone story, but the series had a more open ending — the creators were aware more seasons were on the table. After preventing the assassination of President...

Leonardo DiCaprio, J. Edgar Adam Sandler in Drag/Jack And Jill Below Sandler Box-Office Average; Tower Heist Down 45% At no. 5 on the domestic box-office chart this weekend, Clint Eastwood's J. Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood, J. Edgar Henry Cavill/Tarsem Singh Immortals May Reach $38m: Box Office At no. 5 on the domestic box-office chart on Friday, Clint Eastwood's J. Comparisons to Gus Van Sant's Milk, which were possible on Wednesday, become trickier at this stage. Written by J. Armie Hammer as Clyde Tolson, Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover, Judi Dench as Anne Marie Hoover, J. Edgar Jack And Jill/Adam Sandler in Drag: Second-Lowest-Grossing Sandler Comedy in Past Five Years? According to unproven — and quite possibly unfounded — rumors, FBI emperor J. Ironically, this weekend the all-powerful Hoover will surely be beaten at the Us/Canada box office by another cross-dresser: Adam Sandler in Jack and Jill. How the mighty have fallen. Leonardo DiCaprio, J. Edgar Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar Hoover biopic J. Edgar grossed $52,645 according to Box Office Mojo. The Warner Bros. release starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the FBI honcho and Armie Hammer as his intimate "friend" Clyde Tolson is currently screening at seven locations. The film's average was a not-too-impressive $7,571 per theater. For comparison's sake: on November 26, 2008, Gus Van Sant's Milk, another biopic about a gay figure written by J. Edgar screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, collected $268k at 34 locations, averaging $7,897 (about $9,150 today) per site. Remember that all things being equal, the lower the number of theaters, the higher the per-theater average should be. In other words, Milk had a considerably stronger first-day opening than J. Edgar. But then again, Milk opened the day before the Thanksgiving holiday; that could have made a difference. Milk, which stars Sean Penn as slain gay San Francisco politician Harvey Milk, went on...

Here's one more film to watch crawl towards the screen in the coming months, thanks to the American Film Market. Elvis & Nixon is an indie based on the real-life meeting between the crooner and the President, and will mark the feature directing debut of actor Cary Elwes, who co-wrote with Joey Sagal and Hanala Sagal. (And who is probably still best known for his role in The Princess Bride.) To play Elvis, Elwes and his producers have landed Eric Bana -- strike that, Bana is one of the producers. Meanwhile, Danny Huston (The Proposition, Clash of the Titans, John Adams) will play Richard M. Nixon. And if this week's release of J. Chicago – After two increasingly rocky seasons, ABC’s soulless reboot of Kenneth Johnson’s ’80s miniseries and subsequent TV show “V” was finally cancelled. It ended the sci-fi serial on a tragic cliffhanger that was very much in keeping with the show’s status as a muddled downer. Though some fans have signed petitions to get the show renewed on a different network, it’s doubtful that “V” will garner a large audience outside of Comic Con conventions.
With its morose ensemble and cheap anti-Obama fearmongering, there was very little here to keep viewers engaged, aside from the loud rises in music that sound before every commercial break (and, in some cases, after every scene change). Leading ladies Elizabeth Mitchell and Morena Baccarin had ample screen time to perfect the art of the pensive, simmering stare, yet as good as the actresses were, the writers gave them little to do but engage in hour-long stare-offs.

Leading ladies Elizabeth Mitchell and Morena Baccarin had ample screen time to perfect the art of the pensive, simmering stare, yet as good as the actresses were, the writers gave them little to do but engage in hour-long stare-offs.

Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover, Naomi Watts as Helen Gandy in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar As J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI's notoriously corrupt, rabidly power-hungry topdog, Leonardo DiCaprio looks very much like Leonardo DiCaprio in the above still from Clint Eastwood's Hoover biopic J. Edgar. As Hoover's secretary Helen Gandy, Naomi Watts looks like Nicole Kidman without makeup. Watts certainly looks nothing at all like the real Gandy. The Big Question: Will J. Edgar delve into Hoover's alleged homosexuality and his relationship with protégé Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer)? Considering that the J. Edgar screenplay was written by Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black of Milk fame, I can't see how it wouldn't. That might also explain Hammer's casting: the Social Network actor looks as much like Tolson as, say, Tom Cruise looks like Joseph Stalin, but Hammer and DiCaprio do make a nice-looking couple. In addition to DiCaprio,...

[The following story contains numerous spoilers from this week's episode of CBS' The Good Wife.]
At long last, after weeks of waiting, Good Wife fans got to witness Alicia’s reaction to learning that Peter once bedded Kalinda (back when she was Leela and well before she and Alicia ever became besties). To say that Alicia’s response was measured is almost putting it mildly. Heck, I imagine many a divorced man who was wholly in the wrong wishes that he had been handed the keys to a new apartment, his boxes already packed and moved.

When Lights Out begins, Patrick 'Lights' Leary (Holt McCallany) isn't a man that is going to go through life with his hands tied behind his back. Five years after a career-ending fight, the former heavyweight champion is out of the game, but is content with living a life in suburbia with his wife (Catherine McCormack) and three daughters as he plays house dad in what seems to be the picture perfect post-career life.
However, as the series premiere progresses, we learn this is far from true. Lights has more problems than a simple boxing match. The poor economic situation has eroded away most of his fortune,...

ABC’s remake of V, the ’80s hit show about alien visitors who arrive on Earth with secretly malicious intentions, returns for a second season, in the face of dwindling ratings and a poor critical response. ABC clearly saw more potential for a turnaround than FlashForward, their other hyped sci-fi drama from 2009, which wasn’t fortunate enough to escape the axe. Unfortunately, although “Red Rain” was faster paced than usual, and managed to drop V’s annoying cloak of mystery a few times, it still exhibited many of the flaws that made it hard to enjoy season 1 in anything but a disposable way. I think this a show that has a strong foundation in its admittedly hoary premise, but too many mistakes were made in the remake’s blueprint…

Chicago – Here’s the sort of self-important primetime drama that tries so hard to be a bona fide event that it quickly grows irrelevant. After ABC reduced its episode order from thirteen to ten, it became clear that the second season of “V” could easily be its last if it fails to generate sufficient interest or increase flagging ratings. Lingering fans will be pleased to know that tonight’s premiere episode holds considerable promise.
While the first season got bogged down in the complexities of its plot, the second season opener is taut and compelling from beginning to end, tightening the story after a saggy setup. The show’s best moments are its all-too-brief encounters between two powerful female characters, each sporting a tantalizing poker face. As FBI counter-terrorism agent Erica, Elizabeth Mitchell (“Lost”) looks every bit as flawless as the “peaceful” alien invaders led by Anna (Morena Baccarin). The...

Chicago – Why do so many modern TV dramas fail? I suspect that part of the reason lies in the fact that a lot of these shows bend over backwards to be a major television event before they’ve earned that right. They cloak themselves in faux commentary merely so they can become mechanical fodder for water cooler discussion the morning after. That’s why the vast majority of new TV dramas might as well be called, “The Event.”
The most interesting thing about “V” is that it ended up becoming an entirely different event than the one it was intended to be. Based on the 1983 miniseries and subsequent series of the same name, “V” utilizes science fiction tropes to create an overarching metaphor for fascism. The plot centers on alien invaders who promise peace to Earthlings while slowly gaining control over all aspects of society. Though the executive producers clearly...

This review may contain spoilers. In a last minute move, ABC decided to renew .V. for a second season. This meant that the last episode became a full-fledged season finale instead of an incomplete ending to the whole show. And, in "Red Sky," there were so many things to pay attention to that some things may have slipped your attention. Anna (Morena Baccarin) and Lisa (Laura Vandervoort) invited Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Tyler (Logan Huffman) on board the V ship. Erica decided that this was her opportunity to take action while on board. Kyle (Charles Mesure) promised to ambush Marcus (Christopher Shyer) to keep him busy. Joshua (Mark Hildreth) was supposed to be her contact on the ship. Although Ryan (Morris Chestnut) offered to escort her up there, he got delayed because Valerie ...

Be afraid, be very afraid. At the end of episode 11 it seems that all of High Commander Anna’s (Morena Baccarin) plans are on the verge of “Fruition”. Anna, displaying an extreme lack of maternal instinct, has successfully made Lisa (Laura Vandervoot) into the poster child for the evil of the Fifth Column “terrorists”, persuaded her into lying about who “attacked” her, and witnessed Lisa’s reconciliation with Tyler (Logan Huffman). Her “Soldiers” are about to be born, the FBI has taken into custody a mysterious scientist named Parker who has done research on a compound that might affect reptiles (i.e. Visitors), and she has tricked Chad into making a broadcast plea that produces a groundswell of support for the aliens. Marcus (Christopher Shyer) appears to be negotiating with Hobbes (Charles Mesure) to obtain Parker’s research and, to top it all off, the damned Visitors’ fleet is set to arrive soon.

The show also stars Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Lourdes Benedicto, Scott Wolf and Christopher Shyer.

Tonight will see the return of the ABC’s alien-centric drama, V. After four months of being off the air, viewers will finally witness the battle between the Visitors and the Visitor Resistance start taking shape as the V’s take the offense.
Will tonight’s return prove to the network and viewers both that V is a show worth watching?
The episode, entitled “Welcome to the War”, will find Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) having to watch her back both at work and at home as a Visitor comes to kill her. Anna (Morena Baccarin) will send her lap dog Michael (Christopher Shyer) to the FBI, where he’s all too happy to provide them with information as to who was behind the warehouse explosion that destroyed their R6 compound.
As public opinion of the Visitors declines, Anna sets out to rectify the problem with a positive news piece from Chad...

Having dazzled us last week with extravagant spaceships and enticingly exotic ETs, V’s second episode scaled back the pricey pseudo-cinematic ambition and shifted to a more sustainable gear-a Trust No One paranoid thriller like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, tailored for a culture coached to worry about sleeper cells in the suburbs. (Be honest: How many of you really sweat that?) V’s second episode left me disappointed me, but not so much to diminish my interest or my belief that there’s a really good series somewhere in here. Elizabeth Mitchell can make me believe in anything-even when...

Ever since the original V TV miniseries hit the airwaves in 1983 (you can trust me, I was there ;-P), the letter v has been working it’s way up the ladder in popularity. After all, before that, all v really had to its name was V-Day and a crappy holiday where you try to see how many cavities you can give the object of your affection in one day.
It’s had some pretty stiff competition, though. A-f have always seemed to be pretty popular in the school grading system, while N and Y have made their fame through surveys. The most notorious letter of all, though, has to be X. After all, everything is cooler with an X!

Spring is in the air... and lots of actors are finding work.
Frost/Nixon’s Michael Sheen has joined the cast of The Twilight Saga: New Moon. The now-filming sequel has added Sheen as Aro, the head vampire of the Italian Volturi vampire clan. Summit Entertainment will release the eagerly awaited adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer best-seller on November 20.
Elisabeth Shue takes a detour from her usual dramatic fare to appear in Alexandre Aja's remake of Piranha 3D. The actress will play "Sheriff Julie Forester, a take-charge authority figure in the community of Lake Victoria" according to Moviehole, and the mother of one of the lead characters. Look for this in March 2010
While we weren’t looking, the cast for the revamp of V has filled out with some very familiar names which improve our hopes for the ABC pilot. The formal network announcement will be May 19 but we’re crossing our fingers.
