In the fairytale film Hansel and Gretel (1971), directed by Rudolf Jugert, she played the role of the stepmother. In 1977, Schubert appeared in several episodes of the TV series "Drei sind einer zuviel" (Three Are One Too Many), also directed by Rudolf Jugert.

Renate Schubert also worked for radio and as a voice actress.

After appearing as the prostitute Rosa in the Udo Lindenberg comedy Panische Zeiten in 1980, she appeared in one episode each of the TV series Großstadtrevier and Der Landarzt in the late 1980s. In 1989, she played her final role as a GDR officer in the film Doppelgänger.

In the 1978/79 season she was a guest at the Theater Central in Bonn, where she appeared in the program series "Nachtstudio" with Jean Cocteau's monodrama The Beloved Voice.

Renate Schubert is a Gertman actress. She studied journalism for several semesters and took acting lessons with Eva Fiebig and Joseph Offenbach. Following this, she performed as a theater actress in Hamburg, Bonn, Bruchsal, and Cologne.
