- Eckhart Schmidt wurde am 31 Oktober 1938 in Sternberg, Moravia [ora Czech Republic] geboren. Er war Regisseur und Cutter, bekannt für E.T.A. Hoffmanns Der Sandmann (1993), Männer sind zum Lieben da (1970) und Undine (1992). Er war mit Gorana Dragas und Isi ter Jung verheiratet. Er starb am 24 Oktober 2024 in Deutschland.

- Is a big fan of Douglas Sirk and dedicated two documentaries, "Douglas Sirk: Über Stars" (1980) and "Nach Hollywood - Douglas Sirk erzählt" (1991) to him as well as his spiritual melodrama "Das Wunder" (1985) which he called a homage to Sirk's style of storytelling.
