Graduated from Moscow State Institute of Cinema (VGIK) film school from the class of Sergei Gerasimov (1948).

Was a decorated and disabled veteran of WWII.

Nikolai Rozantsev directed the movie Zagovor Poslov after the original director, Boris Barnet, who already started pre-production, but unexpectedly committed suicide at age 62 in Riga, USSR [now Latvia].

Nikolai Rozantsev was under heavy political pressure in the Soviet Union; he was censored and then restricted by the Soviet government to making only black-and-white films.

Nikolai Rozantsev was censored by the Soviet government and his film Razvyazka (1970) was labeled as "Anti-Soviet" so the original director's version of the movie was destroyed.
