- Was a noted pilot for the U.S. Army Air Corps during the 1930's and a writer on aviation themes. During World War II, he worked as a flying instructor, was then promoted to captain after being transferred to Headquarters USAAC in Washington, D.C. He then became speech writer for General Henry H. Arnold, Chief of the Army Air Corps.
