Daughter of Chicago radio legend John Records Landecker. Records is Amy's paternal grandmother's family name.

Great-granddaughter of lawyer Joseph N. Welch, who gained renown with his heroic stance in the 1950s McCarthy-Army hearings, and later played a judge in Anatomie eines Mordes (1959).

Before ever embarking on an acting career, Amy was busy as a voice-over artist narrating various TV commercials. She also holds the unlikely position of voice-doubling for actress Julia Roberts in many of Roberts' films and trailers. Whenever ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement) is required for a Roberts film, Amy often provides Julia's 'voice' on the soundtrack.

Her paternal grandfather was a German Jewish immigrant. The rest of her ancestry is English, German, Scottish, Dutch, and Irish.
