- Bobby McLoughlin is the adopted child of Harold and Mary Hohne. He's a problem child, so when he is accused of a murder he didn't commit, he is soon recognized guilty. After a moment of doubt, his father will be convinced of his son's innocence, and will fight to get him out of jail. He will need a lot of work and effort to make the administration of justice admit its failure.
- Teresa Walden-Stamper is happily married to her husband Paul Stamper and together they have one daughter, Katie Stamper. The marriage seems happy until Paul starts abusing Teresa and becomes obsessed with her. Teresa divorces Paul and gets a restraining order against him, but this doesn't stop him and he kidnaps Teresa and shoots her boyfriend Chris Butler. Paul is later caught by the police and taken to jail but later escapes, and Teresa knows that she must now protect herself and her daughter because they are in real danger. Based on a story from "Unsolved Mysteries."

- An eccentric older woman (Ann-Margret) implicates her brutal & controlling lover in the murder of a young intellectually disabled girl. Absorbed with "Murder She Wrote" and "Matlock", she creates details of the murder from clues she picks up from the detectives (Marg Helgenberger, Henry Thomas) on the case. Implicating herself and sentenced to jail, she then recants her testimony. But no one believes her until clues surface from the real killer that he is still out there, has killed before, and will kill again. He signs his messages with Happy Faces.
- Schoolboy Josh Townsend has to move again with his father, astrophysics researcher Dr. Nick Townsend, to a New Mexico small town. To escape the copy-boy job dad arranged, Josh volunteers for the tribal buffalo reserve, working with Navajo clan elder John Blackhorse's cynical grandson Thomas and his buddy Moon. Local scamp Kyle's cool cyclist knaves gang seems irresistible, but their hazing-like demands bring Josh to betray his buffalo friends's reluctant confidence.
- Condominium residents are terrified when they learn that two of their neighbors have been brutally raped and that the culprit may be living in their midst. A police manhunt ensues. One officer, who actually lives in the complex, is particularly troubled, for not only do the incidents cause his wife to admit that she was a victim of date rape, he is also the one who had a chance to kill the rapist and didn't.
- Allen Karroll has hated Christmas ever since his ex-girlfriend humiliated him in front of thousands of people one Christmas; this is a hindrance for someone who writes greeting cards for a living. He also hates the man who lives across the street, Zeb Rosecog, who seems to delight in tormenting him and also happens to be the former CEO of his greeting-card company. One day, Karroll is visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley (related to Bob Marley), as well as the ghosts of Christmas Present, Past and Future (in that order) who have all come to the wrong address: they had actually meant to visit Rosecog. During this experience, Karroll learns a lot about himself as well as Rosecog, discovers that he and Rosecog have a lot in common, and decides to help Rosecog see the light and rediscover the joy of Christmas.
